Save yourself some money and use a public defender

My son had 3 cases in 3 different counties. 1) violation of probation because he moved and didn't tell his PO. He was on non-reportable probation for having a zanax in his pocket. 2) A DUI in Atlanta, where they did not do a field sobriety test or blood test. There was a wreck involved. The Atlanta ...Police took my so to a store, not to jail to call a Uber. 3) He got pulled over in Bartow County by the GSP for being on his phone at 11:00 am while he was working. It was a young State Trooper. My son refused the blood test because he was in the middle of working. I hired Larry and paid him $18,000. He brought in a lawyer in Henry County and a lawyer in Bartow. After reviewing the police video in Bartow it was clear according to the attorneys that my son was stone cold sober and the Trooper was fishing and they were going to fight it. I went back and read the contract, it said if he went to trial or even prepared for trial it would be an additional $6,000. When I informed Larry Kohn that I wasn't going to give him another $6,000 on top of the $18k I already paid him he then went into let's just settle. I paid this man $18k to make a couple of phone calls and he did show up in Court in Atlanta and Bartow. Even in Atlanta, they had no evidence since they did not do a field sobriety test or blood test and did not take my son to jail Save yourself some money and just use the public defender. I am pretty bitter about the amount of money I paid this man for no more than he did.

I have no clue what prompted this well over a year and a half later but my reviews are legitimate and think a response is appropriate. Since he is not my client, I am not disclosing any confidences: Dad email to me: 1/8/24 8:26 p.m Larry, I went back and read our agreement. I don't know that I can come up with another $6k. Can you work out a payment plan with XXXX? This case involved 3 different matters in 3 different jurisdictions, a felony probation revocation and 2 DUI charges in different jurisdictions. If I really only cared about money, I would not have split every dollar paid amongst two other lawyers and me. If it was all about dollars, I would have kept all three cases for myself, but I didn't. Together, we had over 90 years of experience, and I felt having three heads involved would be helpful. The felony probation revocation resulted in substance abuse treatment and not State prison, one of the DUIs was dismissed and the CLIENT chose to plead guilty to a lesser offense NOT DUI. We were in court and offered a lesser charge and the client chose to take the offer. He did plead to a DUI on a difficult fact pattern in the final jurisdiction. I think the result was exceptional as do the other lawyers in the cases. $6000 attorney fees per case on three tough situations is more than reasonable.

Pass on this Hot Head

Two minutes on the phone with Larry Kohn was far too long. He was rude, hot headed, and easily triggered. I'm glad he showed his true colors upfront.

Unlike so many lawyers who are on this website, my reviews are real. I've been called a lot of things in life, but rude, hot headed, and easily triggered usually are not in the mix. We give free consultations to everyone who calls. John and I would probably not have been a good fit and my guess is that he did not hire me. I am not sure who "John" is but I hope his problem whatever it was got resolved. Sometimes in life, other people are not the problem, sometimes the problem is simply the problem. No bullshit, I sincerely hope his problem whatever it is gets resolved.

Incompetent Firm of Lawyers

I was seeking a lawyer for a DUI charge because I had initially gone to court alone and was dissatisfied with my plea deal. I asked family and friends about reputable attorneys and was referred to this law firm. I arranged a consultation, and was exceptionally pleased with the aura of the firm. I w...as greeted in a professional, yet personal manner. I explained my dilemma and concerns regarding my case. They seemed very knowledgable about the matter and offered desirable outcomes. As a result, I hired the firm to represent me. My court date had not yet arrived, and the process seemed protracting. Nonetheless, I was at ease because their communication skills were good. They updated me in a timely manner if I had questions. Court arrived and the firm had been paid in full. I was confident in my choice and anticipateted seeing my lawyer in action. In the court room, my lawyer appeared hesitant, inexperienced, and filled with apprehension. My lawyer did not fight for me and I probably would have had a better outcome with my eleven year old child representing me. The confidence that my lawyer exuded during the consultation had completely vanished. When the solicitor offered the exact same plea deal prior to hiring the firm, my lawyer did nothing to dispute my case and submissively accepted the offer. My lawyer and I stepped outside of the courtroom for a discussion. I implored my lawyer to negotiate a better plea deal because they were offering the same thing. Confident she would come back and tell me better news, I was feeling a little better. "Maybe they just needed a little pep talk," I thought. My lawyer came back with the exact same plea deal and asked if I wanted to take it to trial and would charge me an additional $7000 to the $2500 I had already given them. This firm is incompetent of delivering the services they offer. I would not recommend this lawyer to my worst enemy. Unless you enjoy giving away your hard earned money to someone who is incapable of fighting for you, run far away from this firm.

This is further evidence that our reviews are real and not made up like many others on the internet. I met with this client at the initial appointment. She was represented by a former associate in our office, not me. I was not the lawyer hired to appear with her in court. I was not the lawyer hired to engage in plea negotiations with the Solicitor. I was not the lawyer who entered their name with the court. I did not appear in court, I never spoke with the solicitor on her behalf. There was NO expectation from this client that I was going to be the lawyer at the level in which her case was handled. If after reviewing the evidence she chose to fight her case, she would have paid more money to have me personally represent her. This client did not expect me to be with her in court or represent her. She was aware that in order to save money, it would be best to have an associate review the case and see if a better deal was possible. Before hiring our office or accepting one dollar from her, this client was advised that any offer from the State might not be better than the offer she received. She hired our office to review the case and make a determination what would be the best course of action. This case has been closed for several months, and in order to protect herself from a possible civil claim, this post appears. I am not at liberty to discuss the facts of the case, but this client was treated more than fairly.

Save yourself $6000

This was my very FIRST time ever being charged for a DUI and I thought by hiring a lawyer who lives in Brookhaven that my case would have a better chance at being resolved in Brookhaven upon advisement with Larry Kohn and William Head and especially since I was arrested prior to being asked to take a... breathelizer test and I also asked what my rights were and was not read the implied consent rights along with other errors during my proceedings but anyway after my court hearing and getting convicted of improper stopping for the VERY FIRST TIME EVER in my life of anything (my first conviction ever in my life in other words) the following is the list of stipulations my hard earned $6000 that Larry charged won me. 1) 120 hours of community service, 2) 3 $15 random alcohol/drug testing, 3) 12 months of probation with no early termination, 4) a $95 alcohol evaluation, 5) a $355 driving course that is 20 hours long, 6) a $1000 fine, and 7) $132 in probation fees reporting that will cause me to be unable to work those days until 3 random passed drug/alcohol tests are passed. So this caused my very first probation officer to ask if I had multiple DUI convictions and why didn't I get a lawyer to their shock and surprise that I did have one that charged me $6000 because people who are actually convicted of their 1st DUI only get a maximum of 20-40 hours community service and most get an early termination of their probation after paying their fines but I was given 120 hours and no early termination at all for 12 months of probation for my very first conviction in my life which they are calling improper stopping so my advise would be to save your $6000 and get reckless driving for your first time which results in the normal stipulations instead of wasting your money only to get the most egregious punishment ever!!

Without going into the difficult facts, so I don't disclose client confidences, this charge of DUI was dismissed to an improper stopping charge. Based on the video the implied consent was read and there was an incredibly strong probability that this person would have been convicted by a judge or jury and lost their license for 12 months with NO permit. This review shows that not all clients are happy with their results and shows that my reviews are legitimate, not ones that I made up or hired a company to write for me. Some lawyers post reviews that are not real. I do not. I am sorry that I could not meet this person's expectations, but I seriously doubt that anything short of a dismissal would satisfy them. In Metro Atlanta if a DUI is amended to a different charge, more community service, higher fines, and possibly jail time are common. In court, this person was satisfied with the outcome and chose to accept this negotiation. I would advise every other client that I have ever represented to strongly consider this incredibly good deal. I am confident that there was NO better result possible. I have not found one lawyer who would have advised their client to potentially fight a losing DUI case rather than accept this plea to a simple traffic offense with 120 hours of community service, DUI school, alcohol, and drug evaluation, 3 drug screens, probation that becomes non-reporting after 6 months and $1000 fine. I look at this result as nothing less than incredible, and I would bet that if you were charged with a tough DUI case and this were offered, you would accept this as fast as you could. Sometimes expectations can never be met.

KEEP LOOKING

Larry Is not a good choice. First off after paying the retainer Its harder to get ahold of him I asked him to get the court case put off for as long as he could to give me time to do things he asked for He then told me that wasn't possible But then he had something come up and was able to change... the court date (so he can do it when it works for him) I felt like the whole court case was rushed through Larry just got me in and out as fast as he could I truly think you should look else where . Too many lawyers out there find one that will work for you not one that just wants your money My case VGCSA My outcome What the DA asked for not one dime less( I would have got the same going in with no lawyer) Not saying don't get a lawyer just don't get Larry Kohn

As I thought more about the case, the State asked the Judge to sentence my client to jail. However, my client wrote this email from his house and not a jail cell. So, I believe I was able to help him, but no lawyer can win every case.
