Number 1 for a reason

From the moment we spoke on the phone I knew my case was in great hands. I was quickly reassured about the many options I could take when I thought I was certainly going to be put in prison because of my charges. My case was handled diligently and professionally. I highly recommend Michael, he enjoy...s seeing the law work in favor of the defendant. Very thankful. Hope I never need him again

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for both praising #HaberPA's diligence and professionalism and for authoring #HaberPA's 185th Client Review. Although you chose not to use your name I know who you are (based upon timing and your head's up to me about submitting the review) and so I can give the folks some context. You came to me with a criminal history (nothing "horrible", but several prior felony convictions) and facing a slew of new charges (including 5 felony narcotics offenses, 2 narcotics misdemeanors and a gratuitous count of resisting arrest without violence). Although you wisely made no statements and ultimately invoked your rights, much of the incident was captured on police body cams (4 of them to be exact), presenting quite the challenge. Because of the overwhelming evidence against you (most particularly the Spielberg-quality footage) and your undeniable (and scorable) past, the odds were heavily stacked against you; however, with age comes experience, and after 28 years in this business I know that there are almost always options. Long story short it took a while but we were able to dodge all but 1 felony and 1 misdemeanor (everything else was dismissed) and you walked out of the courtroom with 1 year probation and 50 community service hours. You "thought I was certainly going to be put in prison", and in other hands you may well have, but early on you and I agreed upon a litigation objective, I identified a path forward, you did your job while I did mine and in the end, for you, given your particular circumstances, we were victorious. I am thankful for your Client Review, I hope that you're not bothered that I provided context and that I must correct you on one thing (you didn't merely consult with... you actually hired #HaberPA), I wish you the best of luck with probation (you know the potential consequences of a VOP so please be extra-careful) and for you I too "[h]ope [that] I never need him again". Be good my friend. Gratefully, MAH/Esq

No BS straight to the point attorney.

Like most people that break the law one way or the other we feel like we should be able to walk clean from our offense. However, its never that simple, thats why we hire an attorney. Where I am getting at, is that Michael Haber won't give you any BS. He will make it very clear and straight to the po...int on what he can possibly do for your as your attorney considering your circumstances, as mine and everyone elses are different. He made me 1 promise and followed through with it, which was he was going to do his best to keep me from serving jail time. And he followed through with it. I did not serve any jail time. Yes i had several other punishments which included statutory penalties like probation and community hours, ect. But he never promised me that I wouldnt receive those punishments. He was always straight to the point, and sometimes we dont like to hear the truth but he will not make you any false promises. In 7 months i only had to appear in court 2 times. He was always available (respectively) to answer my calls and answer any questions or doubts i may have had. Remember he didnt break the law , he is the one protecting you from the harsh punishments the law serves. I highly recommend Michael Haber as an attorney.

Dear Marco, Thank you very much for earnestly sharing your thoughts with the folks and for authoring #HaberPA's 181st AVVO Client Review. Unlike many of my responses to client reviews (always in an effort to provide context to the folks) I won't get into the facts and circumstances of your case, except to say that because of both the overwhelming evidence in the case against you and your past (your prior criminal history, which the State and the Court were absolutely entitled to, and surely would have, held against you in this case) we agreed that keeping you out of a jail cell was our most realistic litigation objective, and then we achieved that goal. I say "we" intentionally because I could not have done it on my own. I did plenty - peppering the State with motions, relentlessly forcing them to comply with a never-ending flow of discovery requests, etc. - but all of my efforts surely would have been for naught had you not held up your end by performing, flawlessly, precisely as I instructed, to the "t", and just as you did... for months. So props and kudos must go to you as well. It only takes one bad decision to wind up in the government's cross-hairs, but sometimes "it takes a village" to manage the situation. I'm sorry that you didn't get exonerated in your case but, in the paraphrased famous words of Bones McCoy... "I'm a lawyer not a magician". Because we reached our litigation objective - managing to avoid a jail sentence - I consider your case to have been a success. Thank you again Marco. I wish you all the best in luck and success. Gratefully, MAH/Esq

Feisty and Mighty Duo against the Mammoth

Can’t say it with enough words on how thankful I am with Attorneys Mike Haber and Marc Morris. I was with the wrong people, at the wrong location, during the wrong time. Everything happened so fast; I ended up in the slammer with charges which could have left me behind bars for about 40 years. I ...knew the only way to prove my innocents and show I have nothing to do with the operation; I had to hire an over the top, above average, bulldog lawyer. I hesitated to call anyone. I knew of lawyers that advertise everywhere, but I was concerned as to hire any lawyer who would want to charge me up endlessly and might not have the experience to duly represent me against a setup which I had not been involved. I started googling legal terminology, and I saw a series of results from this website avvo.com and a couple of these results were answers to questions by Attorney Mike Haber. I was skeptical of both the website and the attorney. I did further research and found the validity of the website, and that Mr. Haber is licensed by the Florida Bar. It helped greatly to see Attorney Haber has much social media presence with numerous YouTube videos, which are very informative. I then felt assured this is the real deal and decided to call up Mike. Mike runs a lean law practice, and therefore there are no runarounds through a receptionist or paralegal. He answers his cell phone, and when he doesn’t, it is because he is in court. Well, going back to the storyline, I called Mike, and from the initial call I was very much impressed how articulated, and knowledgeable this guy is on the matter. Over the phone, he sounded like a tough guy (which was what I was looking for). In person, boy you better be careful not to get a bite. As long, as you are on his side or at least not against him, you will be fine. In the initial call, he mentioned about bringing another lawyer on board, Attorney Marc Morris. Marc has an extensive background as he was a prosecutor. Two amazing lawyers equal much ammunition for the battle to show my innocence against the mammoth which wanted to drag me down. This review is getting longer than expected, well to rush to the conclusion. I was released with no bail set with a ROR; the case still was pending because the prosecution did not want to budge to drop the charges, and right before the start of the speedy trial (which my attorneys requested), the attorneys endlessly dropped motions onto the prosecution. On the morning of the trial, the prosecution threw the towel, and the case was dismissed. Here are some tips: these lawyers are not going to hold your hand, nor babysit you. They are actively defending your best interest and getting things done. Therefore, do not get in their way, and let them do their job. Remember they have a lean law practice, which in turn saves you much money.

Dear Elbin, Thank you for your powerful and descriptive Client Review (#HaberPA's 180th on AVVO). So the folks understand, intending visit to your your sister and brother-in-law for a weekend, and so as to save money on airfare, you had hopped a ride with 2 guys (1 of whom you knew) from ATL to the 305. Unbeknownst to you the guy you knew was carrying $28k in cash to purchase a kilo of cocaine from an undercover (U/C) Hialeah cop, the deal (a "reverse sting op") having been brokered by the other person in the vehicle via a confidential informant (CI). The car drove straight into a meet at a gas station, the driver reportedly flashed the cash to the U/C and the passenger agreed to follow the U/C cop to the prearranged (and wired) buy location while you unwittingly remained along for the ride. The 2 guys went inside with the U/C and his partner while you sat in the car, ignorant of the circumstances. Meantime, in a secured location - and entirely beyond your presence - the coke was displayed, opened, tested and the cash was tendered - all on video & audio - and then the fishnet was thrown, the 2 guys on the inside being (properly) arrested and you being (improperly) arrested while you were waiting inside of the vehicle. There was none - zero, nada, nil, zip - evidence of your involvement / knowledge or intent to participate in this drug transaction, the C/I never mentioned your name to law enforcement, they did not expect you, they had no idea who you were or why you were in the car and you were not present during the actual transaction. Still there was bad news, and it was fourfold: 1) It was Hialeah (absolutely no legal scholars there) and so they arrested you for drug trafficking, 2) You were not effectively represented at the bond hearing, the Judge simply rubber stamped your arrest and you were held on a $500,000.00 bond; 3) Even though your family hired #HaberPA within days of your initial appearance you still had to sit in jail more than a month before we could get you an Adversary Preliminary Hearing (APH); and 4) after an evidentiary hearing, and even though your Judge ruled that the cops had NO PROBABLE CAUSE to have arrested you, the State Attorney refused to drop the case, doubled down on his officers' douche-baggery, forced us to file a written demand for speedy trial and kept your stink bomb of a case alive for several more weeks. (In case anyone wants to research it the defense to your case was "mere presence" - meaning that guilt cannot be established either by someone's mere presence at a crime scene or mere association with another person at a crime scene - the law requires more than that so as to establish knowledge and intent to commit a crime.) The good news was that immediately after the APH you were released from custody, without any conditions and, ultimately (and although the State made us work for it) the charges against you were all dismissed. Sadly no one can give you that month+ back but #HaberPA did what we promised, as we always strive to do, to wit: We attacked your case, aggressively and quickly, and exposed it for the stink bomb that it was. I wish that we could give you back the month+ of your life that you lost to p*ss poor policing... sadly we can't. But we did help you to recover your freedom, to restore your good name (you had no prior criminal history) and live up to our commitment of providing "boutique", effective and relentless representation for a fair price and, as you say, "lean" (with no unnecessary fat). Thank you again for your kind words (and also for the shout out for #HaberPA's YouTube Channel - "MichaelHaberLaw" - which I am very proud of and to which I hope that everyone who reads this will subscribe). Marc and I wish you and yours all the best. Gratefully, MAH/Esq.

Light at the end of the tunnel...

One drunken night in Miami set me on a collision course with it’s criminal courts and threatened to undo me as a whole. I’d found myself in jail and facing very serious assault charges on a police officer. Needless to say, the outlook was grim at best. My priors from 20 years ago were definitely not ...helping. To be honest, I was scared, alone and facing serious time. My public defender’s performance only served to put me further in the courts hole. I had to do something. That’s when I was referred to Michael Haber. After one conversation with him and Marc, I knew they were the real deal. He asked me the tough questions upfront and set my expectations. I paid my retainer and the following day, they’d filed more motions in 24hrs, than 3 public defenders had done in an entire year! The prosecution now realized, actual work would be required. I finally took a very favorable plea deal for 2 years probation. No special conditions, freedom to travel for work and the ability to complete probation in half the time. This was a big win for me, seeing as my priors did me no favors and the trumped up assault charges on an officer were going to bury me. Money well spent and I’d most certainly recommend Michael Haber to anyone facing bleak circumstances.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you very much for sharing your experience with the folks via #HaberPA's 179th AVVO Client Review. It's true that once we got on board we absolutely peppered the State with motions (not one having been previously filed in your case) and that in so doing - forcing the State Attorney to actually open their file and work - we achieved your litigation objective (it's important to note that because of your prior record you were specifically not seeking an acquittal at trial; rather you wanted to close your case cleanly, sans risk, with straight probation and leave to freely travel throughout the US)... But I feel that I need to give a shout out to PD's (and most especially those here in the 305) and explain that although they generally can't afford to offer up the time and personalized attention that a private lawyer brings to the table, PD's are almost all excellent attorneys, generally being extremely well-versed in both the law and their courtrooms. Contrary to popular belief, it is not easy to either get hired as, or to remain employed as, a PD (again, especially in the 305). It takes brains, ethics, effort and commitment. It is an often times thankless job and attorney's who are not committed to it simply do not last. For those who do, however, their client's usually benefit not only from the day-to-day knowledge of their individual courtrooms (including but not limited to knowing the tendencies of their Judge, their prosecutors and the other instrumental court personnel) but also from the vast resources that the PD brings to the table (investigators, experts, etcetera) without further expense to the client. I have the greatest of respect for those guys and gals who earn a pittance yet generally try so hard and accomplish so much. That said, there is no substitute for privately retained criminal counsel (although - sadly - there are plenty of snake oil salesman / worthless private attorneys out there). As you have so nicely illustrated, when you retain #HaberPA we pledge - and deliver - to: A) provide honest & realistic litigation objectives; B) quote and honor fair fees; C) always be available & responsive; D) keep you fully informed; and by doing so E) earn your positive client review at the conclusion of the case! Mission accomplished! Thank you again for your kind time and words, and please remember that I'm here to help you with any issues while you're on paper and then to secure ET (early termination) for you at the 50% mark. Warmest regards --> MAH/Esq

Michael Haber, an attorney you can trust

Just 8 month ago this would of been way too embarrassing for me to admit but looking back I have to be completely honest about what happened I was arrested on 4th DUI. My third DUI happened less than 5 years earlier and I was still enrolled in a DMV program trying to earn back my drivers lisence at t...ime after bonding out of jail I called a police officer friend of mine and he told me that I needed to call Mike Haber. I did and mike met me the same day he ask me a lot of questions. He was patient and thorough and he listened, but then he shocked me with my reality I didn’t want to believe how much trouble I was in - mostly because I was in denial - and honestly in that moment I was not thrilled with what mike told me he said that I had an alcohol problem that I probably had underlying mental health issues and no matter what I definitely had a going to prison problem but mike also assured me that everything was manageable if I followed his plan mike told me that unless I got lucky with some screw up by the police then my only shot at avoiding jail was to agree to spend 90 days in an inpatient substance abuse program he explained that this wasn’t only a strategic for court but that if I took it seriously then it could also save my life. Again honestly looking back on that conversation I was far from thrilled but then again I was also in denial so I went home talked to my wife and my police officer friend and realized a few things I had 3 different lawyers represent me on my other DUIs but not one of them thought or talked like mike none of them even considered my life outside of court and none of them was referred to me by a cop so I called mike back and agreed to go check out the facility that he had recommended long story short I spend 90 days in rehab then another 45 in an intensive outpatient program I am- to this day - in follow up treatment and mike was 100% correct not only did he kept me out of jail but he also put me in the right place to understand the reasons for my alcohol addiction and how to maintain my sobriety in the end mike was right about everything whenever I called him he always told me to stay focused on my sobriety and treatment and to let him worry about court it took me 8 month but my case is closed I am not in jail and sober mike performed and I can’t thank him enough if you need a criminal lawyer and want one who you can trust then don’t hesitate to call Mike Haber!

Dear Anonymous, Grammatical errors not withstanding your (#HaberPA's 178th AVVO) Client Review was outstanding. It is obvious that you gained incredible insight, understanding and an appreciation for your situation, and it is equally apparent (as well as most appreciated) that you've given me credit for both having steered you in the right direction and considered your legal and personal needs. As a lawyer I'm ethically bound to perform several functions (see Chapter 4 of the Rules regulating the Florida Bar, specifically Professional Conduct), namely serving as an "adviser, advocate, negotiator and evaluator", and this is what i did in your case. I took a global view, put together a plan and (at times struggled to have) kept you focused on the only objective of consequence, to wit: keeping you out of jail / prison. It wasn't just the facility that I chose for you (a dual diagnosis facility specifically structured to deal with both substance abuse and mental health issues) or even the private forensic psychologist whom we employed (and who's significance cannot be understated) or even my knowledge and negotiating skills, but, most importantly, it was your own provable, steadfast and unwaivering commitment to amenable and meaningful participation in all aspects of your treatment protocol (over an extended period of time) that carried the day... so props and kudos to you, because in the end it was you who kept yourself out of a cage. For the benefit of the folks who read this and have an interest in either repeat DUI cases or the strategic use of rehab in criminal cases generally, please take a look at #HaberPA's VideoFAQ / YouTube Channel (and please subscribe to www.youtube.com/c/michaelhaberlaw - we're at 904 subscribers and more than 383,000 views), specifically VideoFAQs # 259) Can I avoid Jail if I get another DUI? - https://youtu.be/0T_JxU5VdY4 # 260) How can I avoid Jail on a 2nd or 3rd DUI? - https://youtu.be/qJlT4CY49sg # 261) Can an In-Patient Rehab Program Help My Criminal Case? - https://youtu.be/ZBae3HQ76Xc # 262) When will an In-Patient Rehab Program help my case? - https://youtu.be/3ok_31N_CNU # 263) How do I choose the right In-Patient Rehab Program? - https://youtu.be/y-cZsK_RsCU and # 264) Will Attending AA/NA Meetings Help my Case? - https://youtu.be/ZR1THatvFiY - and for you, Anonymous, thank you so very much for taking the time to share your most personal experience with the folks and for your kind words about me / #HaberPA. "I endorse this lawyer. I first met Mike about 20 years ago when I was a Special Prosecutor in the Narcotics Unit at the Miami Dade State Attorney's Office. He was and still is a hard working and knowledgable attorney, who fought for his client then and still does today. He has always been honest, fair and ethical. He is always fighting to achieve the best possible results for his clients. When I left the Miami Dade State Attorney's Office to start my private practice, I maintained my relationship with him and he and I would consult each other on some of our individual cases. He is a wealth of information and our friendship has grown over the years. I have followed him for a few years now, and remain inestimably impressed with both the amount of knowledge he has in criminal law and also the amount of knowledge he gives to anyone in need of legal guidance. Attorney Haber has a way of breaking down complex legal concepts into very understandable pieces that can be easily digested by someone not so familiar with legal phrases and wording. To have the career he has and the number of years he has dedicated to this craft and still be willing to help out the community at large at a second's notice is what I feel makes him a continual asset and resource to both the legal community and the state of Florida."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
