Money Well Spent

Well to start I would like to thank Mr. Haber and his team for all of their hard work and dedication to my case. I am a US Marine Corps Veteran that was facing a15year mandatory minimum . Over a period of two and a half years I was on house arrest with traveling restrictions Mr Haber and his team sub...mitted numerous requests to the courts for travel they all were granted. Mr Haber and his team went above and beyond to protect me from any misconduct or mistreatment from the court or state. Mr Haber and his staff they are very knowledgeable of the law and His expertise and professionalism was essential to this great success. I am very grateful that I won’t be leaving my wife and children for any amount of time. I am a free man. With a heart full of gratitude. USMC vet.

“Dear Anonymous Client, Thank you so much for your kind words (in the form of #HaberPA's 238th Client Review on AVVO) &, more importantly (to me personally), thank you for your service to our great Country as one of "the few, the proud, the Marines". Your wife submitted an anonymous review (#HaberPA's 236th on AVVO - anyone can find it 2 reviews below this one), hers was based upon her unique interaction with me while you were pretrial detained in jail, unable to post bond due to the absolute ineptness of the first lawyer whom your family had hired & my detailed response was tailored to her experience. Your independent review allows me to expound on my reply to her, but with a more in depth discussion of your situation. You are an Honorably Discharged military veteran who served in Iraq & Afghanistan and who was primarily assigned to a "demining squad". Why do I know that & what relevance does it have? I know because I fully vetted your life experience with you so as to both come to understand my client & also in consideration of possible "mitigation of sentence" issues. (At #HaberPA we enter every case with the intent to "win", but "winning" has many definitions & reality dictates that while we "pull all stops" in efforting at securing a Nolle Pros / dismissal / "Not Guilty" verdict / acquittal, we'd be remiss in our duty were we to fail to consider the possibilities of either plea negotiations or an adverse judgment, the latter requiring us to contemplate mitigation strategies - i.e. ways to secure a reduction in sentence - & this is something that we do from the get go & contemporaneous with tearing apart State evidence & building a defense case.) In any event you're diagnosed with PTSD (understandably so after what you experienced in the theater of operations) & while you improve every day you've not been able to hold a job since your discharge, instead caring for your 2 young daughters while you receive VA care & your wife works full & overtime. For a literal period of years two scumbags (people you knew but not that they were Federal Confidential Informants trying to "work off" time from their own federal drug cases by proactively setting up others for arrest) had hounded you to secure cocaine for them. You repeatedly said no but they were incessant, knowing your mental state, your family's financial situation &, as predators do, sensing your weakness. Over time & with repeated promises of booty & security they wore you down, you agreed to secure 2 kilos of cocaine & when you delivered them you were arrested on the spot. As you had no prior criminal history & given the facts (both as alleged by the government & as proffered by you) we put forth a classic Entrapment Defense. We compelled disclosure of the CIs, built our case & when the time was right we filed a Written Demand for Speedy Trial. A mere handful of questions into his direct examination the CI caused a Mistrial & we had to start over. For reasons which I outlined in your wife's review the case was ultimately dismissed, but the important thing is that we skillfully & strategically wielded both the Rules of Criminal Procedure & the Rules of Evidence to take the tactical advantages which resulted in the dismissal, but we also employed a great deal of guile in accomplishing that end. That said, knowing that which you willfully sacrificed & the price that you continue to pay for that sacrifice so that I, the ones whom I love & every other American can live under the umbrella of the freedom that you & your military brethren so selflessly provide, your case was particularly meaningful to me. Noting that demining in Middle East war zones is all but unfathomable to me, still, in light of the villainous scum who simply sought personal profit from their intentional criminal acts off of your selfless service & unwilling penance is deplorable. I could not be prouder to have helped anyone else. Semper Fi & thank you again (for everything). Respectfully, MAH/Esq. #HaberPA”

Criminal Defense

Mike Haber represented me a few years ago on my first felony arrest. He got the charges dropped and I figured that was that, but I got myself arrested again, and this time it was far more serious. Not only was I staring at a loss of liberty but because of my actions I was also facing the loss of my... family. If I did not know Mike then I would be more surprised but I do know him, and so, in hindsight it's no surprise at all that he was tough with me. Mike demanded that I do things that I definitely did not want to do and also that I not do things that I definitely wanted to do, but in hindsight I know that he made these demands with purpose... in fact with multiple purposes. Mike's plan was to save both my life and my family by forcing me to confront and change myself. He made me enter individual and group therapy. He made me enroll in a 26 week anger management course. He made me avoid certain people and situations. He put together a team to assist me in every way and he was on top of me every few days, holding me to account, checking in and checking up, but also offering encouragement and support. In the end I know that I did all the heavy lifting, but if I'm being honest I would not have known where to start, much less whether I would have followed-though without Mike's steadfast support. Mike Haber is a great lawyer but he is an even better friend. Thank you Mike.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you very much for your most eloquent expression (in the form of #HaberPA's 213th Client Review on AVVO). Once a criminal case is closed I consider my former client to be a friend, and so, as in your situation, it's always bitter-sweet when a current friend returns as a repeat client (bitter in that the last place where I'd like to see you is again involved with the criminal justice system yet sweet in that a) by hiring me again you have exhibited your complete confidence in my ability and desire to help you and b) as such, I am ever-honored to have earned that privilege). Still, in this existence one of the few certain existential observations is that life is full of unpredictable events (or, more simply put, "sh*t happens"), and so it came to pass that you became a repeat client. Apart from expressing my gratitude (for both re-hiring #HaberPA and for your current Client Review) the only comment that I am compelled to make about your kind review is that I did neither "made" (in terms of applying any force) nor did I "demand" that you do anything; rather, with your input I established and you agreed to commit to a multi-tiered plan which was designed to levy an effective challenge the charges while also paving the path for responsible, objective mitigation, should the same ever be required. But the true beauty of the plan which I set in place was that it had the added benefits of providing a support system which effectively reduced your risk during the process (which, largely due to CoVid, took a full year to resolve) while both educating you as to how to adopt and incorporate more balanced management and coping skills into your life while concurrently taking proactive measures which indisputably demonstrated your earnest and most heartfelt desire to save your family. You are 1,000% correct when you observe that "In the end I know that I did all the heavy lifting", because you did; moreover, you did so in a completely steadfast, determined and unwavering fashion, and you should be incredibly proud of yourself for your total accomplishments and complete success. Had you failed, on any level at any time in any capacity (noting that there were limitless possibilities for any such breakdown) then we likely would not be having this pleasant discourse. All of that said, I am gratified that you are (once again) pleased with both my services and the outcome and I am both proud of you and happy that we are back in "friend" (as opposed to "client") status. Now all you have to do is to stay the course! Fondly, MAH/Esq.

Peace of Mind!

In the midst of what, for our family was a truly troubling time, I hired Michael to represent my sister to fight a serious felony charge, that if convicted would impact her life forever, specifically diminish her relationship with her 8 month old baby because of jail time and end her career that she ...has worked so hard for. Without hesitation, Michael took on her case, was clear and honest from the beginning about the challenges we faced, but at the same time gave me a sense of hope. Michael is an expert at what he does. He is strategic, concise, aggressive and most importantly a CREATIVE defense attorney. I have worked as a paralegal in law firms for over 10 years and I have a Doctorate in Human Resources Development. Based on his work in our case, I can tell you that he is not only an excellent attorney but a leader who takes command of a situation, evaluates the various possible outcomes, and shines a light allowing the Client to put his/her best foot forward. In short, my sister's case is being "No Actioned" and what that means is that the Michael has convinced the State to dismiss her case prior to the arraignment, which is the formal commencement of the criminal process. How did he do this you may ask? Well, he and his team quickly secured sufficient evidence to package and present to the State Attorney to prove that the facts underlying my sister's arrest were manufactured by the alleged victim (alleged victim being the father of her child who broke into my mother's home, beat my sister in front of my mother and kidnapped her child, then drove to another city and made a false police report causing my sister to be arrested two days later - even after having an Order from a Judge awarding her FULL custody of her child and a restraining order against the boyfriend). There could not have been a better outcome. We won, my sister won and our family has peace now. We can all breathe now and that's because of the work Michael and Carlos (the investigator) did. I will also share with you all who read this that even after delivering the news to me last night by phone, Michael shared with me his personal advice as to what he thinks should happen next outside of his representation. That simple action tells me and anyone who reads this that he cares and his care goes well beyond the case at hand. Michael performs with what many experts in the ethics community call a "duty of care" - and you can't ask for anything else. His humanistic perspective is critical to the work he does and many legal practitioners could learn from him. If your contemplating hiring him but have some personal reservations, trust that he will bat for you and he is the best batter in the league!

“Dear Anonymous, Thank you very much for your incredible and comprehensive summary (i.e. #HaberPA's AVVO Client Review #172). Until today I had thought that #170 was our apogee but then you posted this and, well, I guess that I'm either on a run of representing highly literate clients or I've stepped up my game. :-) In all seriousness, thank you, truly and humbly, but please give yourself (and your mom) credit as well, for I could not possibly have accomplished what I did for your sister without the two of you being actively involved. You came to me the day after arrest / booking and told me that the cops had falsely arrested your sister. Our goal was to convince the State NOT to file charges, and we had a 3 week window before Arraignment to do so (ultimately, working with the State Attorney we extended that window an additional 2 weeks). After arming me with facts that were not contained in the Arrest Affidavit (the arresting officers were operating on partial - about 25% - and entirely -100% - one-sided information) you then equipped me with the tools that I needed (you retained my PI and cooperated by providing sworn affidavits) so as to gather the proof requisite to achieving our objective... and so we did... but it was a group effort. Those 2 beautiful words "No Action" (meaning that the case is dismissed before it is formally filed) will echo for a while. I cannot - no one can - undo the fact that your sister was arrested but, thanks to her family, substantial justice was achieved on her behalf. I don't know that my words are quite as eloquent or meaningful as yours, but I truly and wholeheartedly thank you for your leap of faith, your steadfast assistance and also for #HaberPA's AVVO Client Review #172. Gratefully, MAH/Esq.”

Best possible outcome

Never in my worst nightmares would I consider that I would need criminal representation. I was lost in a system I was unfamiliar with. I interviewed multiple attorneys and based on only a hunch picked one with real showmanship flair. That was a huge mistake and costly one at that. It became very clea...r I was not being represented by the “previous attorney’s office”. After ten months of being held on a no pay status with my professional career; a colleague referred me to Mr. Haber and once we spoke on the phone, it was clear that Michael Haber was the attorney I was looking for. From that point on I felt as though I would be represented and treated fairly and with supreme knowledge of the law. Mr. Haber and I spoke for what was easily over half an hour, and then he suggested what not a single other attorney to that point had; coming over to my house to personally observe my version of occurrences that evening. Upon completing the visit he had concluded that that I should take my case in another direction. He was very clear and knowledgeable of the law in respect to this new direction, after all he advised me that I was a victim in this case. Not one single attorney, to this point, considered to visit where the incident occurred, and personally walk through my version of events as well as interview eye witnesses. Michael advised me as no other attorney had. He initiated his research, had a technician come by the scene to diagram it, collected information “others” failed to do and set us on the right course. It was not an easy time for me, but Mr. Haber kept me informed, up to the minute, via constant and diligent communication. In court, there was an apparent air of respect for Mr. Haber, he professionally and clearly guided me through each proceeding. Although it was not easy for me, at least I knew what to expect. When the difficult decision to plea out or go to trial came, his firm, no-nonsensical approach kept me focused. His team provided an excellent presentation in court, and Michael Adam Haber and team accomplished what others could not and would not do. Michael’s guidance yielded me the “best possible outcome”. Michael is always available, dedicated, knowledgeable and street savvy; A very kind yet no-nonsense kind of man. His assertive nature makes him the best I know in his field. Truly a “Shark”. Mr. Haber recently had my case expunged. To this day my wife and I still consider him not only our attorney, but a friend. Honestly I would recommend no one else. Give him a call, you’ll understand.

Dear Nick, What can I say other than thank you. Your words are heartfelt, sentimental and more meaningful than I can express. So that the folks who are reading this understand, you spent a small fortune on a toothless tiger - a lawyer who took your case, your money and then tried to plead your case out (over a 10 month period while you sat, suspended from work, without pay and while your wife worked double shifts to compensate for your loss of income). You came to me by way of a personal referral on a complete fluke and we quickly determined that you had been wrongfully - and unlawfully - arrested by cops who had manufactured a bogus case against you to cover their own a**es (and for no reason more than that you had the temerity to both - literally - stand your ground and then verbally call them out on their lack of professionalism, training and respect). You were in the right in the moment, and when the State Attorney doubled-down on the officer's BS story, well the Judge formally ruled that you were in the right in the end too, granting you statutory immunity from prosecution and literally booting the case out of her courtroom. Me, I just did my job. I identified the problem, came up with a plan to remedy it and then did so with extreme prejudice (and inside of 3 months). You had the harder job of keeping your cool, coming to truly believe that while you were the Defendant on paper in reality you were the victim (first of unwarranted police aggression and then of a snake-oil salesman in a suit who effectively robbed and falsely imprisoned you), taking the witness stand with complete confidence in your victim-status, offering testimony in your own defense and doing all this knowing that if your lawyer got it wrong then you could be going to prison. It's a very difficult thing to do... to face the police and the prosecution, to put your freedom, your liberty, your very life in another's hands, and while I appreciate your praise and thanks, in this light it is I who should be thanking you. You took several leaps of faith, first in calling me, then in firing your obtuse lawyer "with real showmanship flair" so as to bring me on board and finally in trusting me to get you immunity from prosecution - and for all of that and more I thank you. After the war that we went through together you and your wife (and Bailey - your Labrador Retriever) are family. I just want to add that as much as I want to take credit it must be spread as my partner and my investigator were, as they always are, absolutely invaluable. I wouldn't accomplish 1/2 of what I do with out them (especially my partner). And a special shout out to you wife who was a rock for all of us (most especial you). I'm looking forward to seeing the three of you over the holidays. All the best, Mike

Outstanding Criminal Defense Attorney

From the first phone call to the Judges decision we knew we had finally found a lawyer that will FIGHT for your rights. This is a no nonsense guy who works hard for YOU giving of his time, expertise and experience. Shall I say SHARK! There is blood in the water! THIS MAN KNOWS THE LAW and will put ...forth his sharp knowledge for your legal rights. My husbands case was going nowhere (unfortunately we didn't find Mike Haber first) and my husband was caught up in a legal maze. As a government employee he was put on a "no-pay" status. Fortunately I was able to keep the bills and mortgage paid exhausting all savings and dipping into retirement. A colleague referred my husband to Michael A. Haber. After our first meeting we knew that JUSTICE would FINALLY PREVAIL! In our case he worked with fellow Attorney Marc Morris. The two were brilliant in their defense in my husbands case. They GOT DONE in half the time and half the fee what the other firm couldn't or wouldn't do. If you want a fair, brilliant, seasoned, get it done Lawyer? Michael A. Haber is who you hire. We are so grateful we took his advise and counsel. My husband has been exonerated. We can not THANK him enough.

Thank you Linda. Your husband's case was completely bumbled and, dare I say, incompetently handled, by his prior lawyer. It's tragic... almost as tragic as the p*ss poor police performance which resulted in his unlawful arrest. Fortunately, a relatively quick view of the locus in quo (sorry... "the crime scene") + a walk-through demonstration + a top-tier private investigator (who generated a digital recreation) + a comprehensive understanding of Florida's "Stand Your Ground" / self-defense law led to a rapid evidentiary hearing and a favorable ruling dismissing the case. But... you and your husband's continued belief, cooperation and understanding were clutch. In this case I engineered a "flank approach" to the case, and you helped by funding, organizing and seeing to fruition my vision. In the end we all did our jobs, and justice was served. Criminal defense lawyering is a team effort. I have a top-tier and irreplaceable partner and an extremely reliable and talented investigator, but both are worth a fraction of their weight without a client (and his wife) who serve as the glue that keeps it all together. So I thank you for your kind words, I thank you for your unwavering commitment to helping me to help your family precisely as I outlined it (even when you didn't understand the why of it or necessarily want to do as I asked) and, most importantly, I thank you for being you. Through this ordeal (a 3 month power-through session) we spent a great deal of time with one another. As proud as I am of the job that the we accomplished together I am even prouder to call you and your husband my friends. Earnestly and Humbly, MAH/Esq

"I endorse this lawyer. I first met Mike about 20 years ago when I was a Special Prosecutor in the Narcotics Unit at the Miami Dade State Attorney's Office. He was and still is a hard working and knowledgable attorney, who fought for his client then and still does today. He has always been honest, fair and ethical. He is always fighting to achieve the best possible results for his clients. When I left the Miami Dade State Attorney's Office to start my private practice, I maintained my relationship with him and he and I would consult each other on some of our individual cases. He is a wealth of information and our friendship has grown over the years. "I endorse this lawyer. Attorney Haber in my opinion is an attorney that is truly for the people. I have followed him for a few years now, and remain inestimably impressed with both the amount of knowledge he has in criminal law and also the amount of knowledge he gives to anyone in need of legal guidance. Attorney Haber has a way of breaking down complex legal concepts into very understandable pieces that can be easily digested by someone not so familiar with legal phrases and wording. To have the career he has and the number of years he has dedicated to this craft and still be willing to help out the community at large at a second's notice is what I feel makes him a continual asset and resource to both the legal community and the state of Florida."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
