NYC Airport Gun Case

I was arrested and charged with two felonies while transitting through LGA in NYC with my legally owned firearm. Due to NYC's draconian gun policy and having some past convictions as a young man I was viewed and treated with bias by the ADA and judge at the arraignment. The prosecutor assigned to the... case was reluctant to reduce my charges to anything less than a misdemeanor due to my past troubles. Jeremy remained confident and hung in there for the good fight. He was able to have the felony charges reduced down to a disorderly conduct, a violation and not a criminal conviction. I found Jeremy to be astute and very familiar with "the process" of the NYC "justice" system. I would highly recommend his services to anyone who finds themselves on the receiving end of criminal charges.

Felony reduced to ACD

Jeremy is an excellent lawyer who we contacted after an unfortunate case. He was able to get Felony charges reduced to an ACD within a month. He was prompt, courteous and extremely emphatic. We recommend him wholeheartedly.

My Review

I hired Jeremy in December of 2013 to represent me in a misdemeanor assault charge in NYC. His fee was very reasonable and his personality was exactly what I was looking for in an attorney (someone that will fight for you). It took approximately 2 years for my case to be finalized, which was due to... the specific details of my case, but the end result was something I was very happy with. In the end, I avoided jail time and a criminal record. I truly believe that most attorney's would not have spent the amount of time that Jeremy did with me. I hired Jeremy primarily based on the feedback from AVVO and I am now happy to share my thoughts here as well.

Charged with Grand Larceny in the third

After being arrested and charged in NYC, Jeremy from Crotty & Saland managed to get my time down from what was originally a 2-6 year charge from the prosecutor down to 6 months (A significant difference) based on excellent advice he had given to me and his ability to communicate effectively with the ...presiding judge and DA. The most important thing that made Jeremy stand out was his ability to make me feel calm about the situation even while I was detained and that he was always able to be contacted so if I had any questions or query's I was able to get in contact with him, something many others were unable to do with their attorneys. He also went above and beyond to ensure after the case was over myself and my co-defendants got our possessions back as there was an issue with the police paperwork. I would definitely recommend him as an attorney if you are facing a similar charge

Illegal Possession of Firearm

The law office of Jeremy Saland (New York City) came through for me in amazing fashion. I am a resident of California, non U.S. citizen and a lawful owner of various firearms. I was traveling to New Jersey for a business trip and decided to take two of my handguns to a gun range with a local residen...t/friend. I did some investigation and found nothing stating “DO NOT TAKE YOUR GUNS TO NEW YORK”. I did find some warnings, but could find nothing that was backed up by fact as opposed to opinions. Most blogs talked about “how to take guns through New York” without trouble. I even went as far as talking directly to TSA prior to my flight to make sure there would be no problems. As it turns out, TSA couldn’t care less where you take your firearms so long as you follow their protocol for transporting firearms in the aircraft. So… off I go with my firearms to New Jersey (via JFK). No problems whatsoever. Was in New Jersey for two weeks. Went to the gun range with a friend. No big deal. However, when I went back to JFK and declared my firearms to the airline representative, they called both TSI and the Port Authority (Police). This is where all of my trouble began. TSA didn’t care about the firearms, but the Port Authority did. Both firearms were secured in double locked cases and inside the checked luggage. I was arrested and charged with Illegal Possession of a Firearm. To make matters worse (don’t know why this matters at all), I had about 300 rounds of ammunition in my “Checked” luggage. I had more in my luggage when I left California and the authorities in CA couldn’t care less. But in New York, forget it. NY is very anti-gun. They pretty much threw the book at me. I was looking at a class C felony. I cannot provide all the details of my particulars, but suffice it to say, I am a world traveler and a non US citizen. Having any kind of criminal record, even a misdemeanor would be disastrous to my profession. It would impact my ability to travel since the US may not allow me to enter back into the US with a criminal record. In talking with 5 different attorneys, I was told that there are basically four outcomes. A: ACD, B: Disorderly Conduct, C: Misdemeanor, D: Felony. ACD is where after six months, there is no record whatsoever of the charges. Disorderly Conduct would be similar to being charges with spitting on the sidewalk (if you will). Outcomes C & D are self explanatory. All 5 attorneys, including Jeremy Saland told me to kiss the ACD goodbye. Particularly due to the fact that I had 2 firearms, 300 rounds of ammo and was a non US citizen. To make a long story short, the Law Office of Jeremy Saland was able to negotiate an ACD for me with the prosecutor. It was a miracle ! What that means is, no record whatsoever (after six months with no further arrests). The Law Office of Jeremy Saland is a bit more pricy than others. But, I can tell you this with absolute certainty, it was all well worth it. Jeremy did this with me just having to go back to NY for only one appearance. Don’t go cheap. Pay the extra and get it over with. Jeremy Saland will get the job done.

"Jeremy is both a friend and a colleague. We worked together in the Manhattan DA's Office, and we are now colleagues in the defense bar. He has carved a successful niche for himself and is partner in a prestigious firm where he handles serious cases and secures great results. He's not afraid to take on the big cases and he's someone who I would trust with a referral. I highly recommend him."

"There are few criminal lawyers in New York City who are as skilled, aggressive, and compassionate as Jeremy Saland. I regularly refer him clients in New York City and Westchester and I am always pleased with the outcomes. He fights aggressively for his clients, even if it ruffles the feathers of the District Attorney's office. And as a former DA himself, Jeremy seems like he has their playbook in hand. He is always a step ahead of his adversary."

"I have known Jeremy since our days as fellow prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, where Jeremy was highly respected for his courtroom skills and knowledge of the criminal law. Since bringing those skills and knowledge to private practice, he has obtained outstanding results for his clients. In fact, when one of my civil litigation clients was arrested, and I was prevented from representing him due to a conflict of interests, I referred the case to Jeremy. Jeremy did a fantastic job and got all of the charges against my client case dismissed. Needless to say, my client and I were both very pleased and impressed with Jeremy's abilities, work ethic, and integrity throughout the entire process. Should a similar situation arise in the future, I would not hesitate to refer my client to Jeremy."
