I cannot begin to explain how frightened and scared I was when my husband called me to tell me he had been detained by the police at JFK airport. Not realizing the law in New York and accidentally having taken his firearm with him from Florida on a boat he sailed to NYC for training, TSA stopped him ...when he put his bag through screening to fly home. He had no intention of hiding anything or breaking the law but the port authority police handcuffed him and took him into custody for what was an honest mistake. Fast forward, my family found Jeremy. He was calm and reassuring during one of the most difficult times in our lives. He explained what he thought would happen and how he would get past the felony charge without serving jail time. He even was able to maintain my husband's clean record, clean! Jeremy never promised a result but he did promise he would work hard. Though he was busy at times he answered all of our questions (sometimes we would tag team with questions) and calmed our nerves. Most importantly, in the end Jeremy delivered just like he said he would. The lesson that is most important is don't forget to take any weapons out of your bag when travelling through the airport (especially in New York!) The penalties are real!!! I was in a terrifying and scary case involving charges of PL 130.25 and faced the possibility of SORA registration and going to jail even though I had no record. Before going to Saland Law, I first went to another law firm after the lawyers there said they would take care of my case. On my first day ...in court, a different lawyer showed up and discussed me taking a plea for a crime I didn’t commit. Unfortunately, amid the the pandemic, I suffered a severe decline in my mental health and a worsening of existing substance abuse issues. Unfortunately, my descent culminated in a psychotic episode during which I committed offenses that would have been unthinkable had I been in my normal state of mi...nd. When I was arrested, the initial charges were staggering, and included felony violent offenses against law enforcement. If I upheld my end of the bargain as outlined in the deal for the prescribed term, all charges were to be dropped at its conclusion, and my case would be dismissed in the interests of justice. I am incredibly grateful to say that this is exactly what occurred. Jeremy persuaded the court, the prosecutor, and representatives from the “Alternatives to Incarceration” program that my charges resulted from a mental health crisis, and were not indicative of my character, or the likelihood of future offenses. Given the multiple alleged felonies I was facing, and the very real possibility of prison time, the fact that today I enjoy freedom, stability and recovery is a testament to Jeremy’s competence. More than ensuring I avoided a criminal record, Jeremy provided myself and my family with peace of mind and confidence throughout an incredibly difficult time.
