I cannot begin to explain how frightened and scared I was when my husband called me to tell me he had been detained by the police at JFK airport. Not realizing the law in New York and accidentally having taken his firearm with him from Florida on a boat he sailed to NYC for training, TSA stopped him ...when he put his bag through screening to fly home. He had no intention of hiding anything or breaking the law but the port authority police handcuffed him and took him into custody for what was an honest mistake. Fast forward, my family found Jeremy. I was returning to my home state travelling through LGA airport with my father’s military issued handgun in a locked case, in a locked suitcase. Prior to going to the airport, I had checked with TSA and I had checked with the airline. I declared the handgun at the check-in counter with the airline.
