John P. Buza

I met Mr. John Buza in very dire circumstances. When I called him the very first time I knew he would not be a typical lawyer. He sounded like a human being rather than an automaton, aka “stone face”, who is trying to first determine if I could “afford him”... but has no genuine interest or engagemen...t in my case-crisis whatsoever…! And believe me I had interacted with lawyers before and so I can make a solid differentiation here. It’s a drag to be dealing with the latter type & hence my appreciation and respect for Mr. Buza is exponentially greater because of that fact alone. He listened, took interest in what I was saying, had a reaction to it, was reassuring but measured in his style. Mr. Buza was very present throughout the case and I am using “present” loosely because so much falls under that term. He was available even when I knew that he had no new information for me or when I was contacting him knowing that I am monopolizing his time because nothing had changed or could be changed at that time regarding the case. He made himself available for a trip to Rikers during Christmas time even though he could have very legitimately delayed it. He was patient, genuinely supportive, and genuinely responsive. He was never dismissive or turning “lawyerly formal/official” or busy. I would ask him the same questions or share concerns multiple times and he was willing to explain legal options and prospects about the case in layman’s terms multiple times. I always felt he had our back and that he would always do everything he could to effect positive outcomes regardless of our financial status. He was …normal. That's a rare find. You need someone you can partner with about the complexities of your case and Mr. Buza is someone you can partner with and depend on not only because he is a lawyer and not only because he understands but more importantly because he cares and appears to have a moral/ethics compass, that’s so lacking in the field, still intact.

John Buza has been working on my criminal case for the past year. During this entire time I have been very impressed by his professional dedication to my case.
