Attorney Jim Sullivan is a down to earth, personable and knowledgeable first rate attorney. I chose Jim because of his integrity, small size practice, numerous favorable reviews and sincerity to do his best to represent our adult son with two criminal cases (marijuana & controlled substance) that were charged against him from 2016. It proved to be a wise decision to hire him. He had the cases totally dismissed without a trial setting in a short period of time after hiring him. Our son has a history of well documented mental health issues from medical professionals. Sullivan is very familiar with the mental health issue and how it impacts our son. He thought outside the box and used that knowledge to our son’s advantage which seemed to be an impossible situation given the fact that my son had previously participated in a pretrial diversion program for a marijuana case. He also encouraged my son to stop self-medicating with illegal drugs and to stay away from this group of “friends” that got him into trouble, and my son took his advice to heart. We highly recommend using Sullivan.

After some strong arming by the fire marshall's office for my son's felony arson case, I was so nervous and looked up Jim Sullivan. I hired him based on his results, and I could not be happier that I did! He got my son's case on the next docket, after an attempt at delay from the DA. My son was home within 24 hours after his unnecessary arrest and trumped up charges. Mr. Sullivan got to work, and on my son's next court date he was given a deferred option that will take this off his record with 6 months of supervised good behavior! Thank you Mr. Sullivan!!
As if that was not enough, Mr. Sullivan sat down with my son and gave him some very good advice about where he should head with his future. My son is now excited to learn more about the areas he mentioned, and I appreciate Mr. Sullivan going beyond his lawyer job description and being a mentor!

First and foremost, few people ever have to deal with the criminal circumstances in life. Life is uncertain, and unexpected things happen. But if you have attorney like James Sullivan on your side, your anxiety should either lessen or stop all together.
My life shattered into pieces when my wife called the police on me for a small argument. When the police arrived at the house, she falsely accused me of chocking her and beating her. I was taken to jail. After I posted bond, the first thing I had to do was to find the” best of the best” attorney in Houston. After careful reviews, I found Mr. Sullivan to be an excellent Attorney choice for my case.
What makes Mr. James (Jim) Sullivan the best –of the best?
I contacted him directly to his personal cellphone. He scheduled me a time slot. Even after the schedule, he was very willing to listen to my side of the story. We spent about 30min discussing the case. When I reached his office the same day for a sit down, he was able to share a lot of his personal detail, which was very nice of him to describe himself and also get to know me better. From our hour long conversation, I came out very confident of my case.
He is a very strategic guy. He suggested various strategies to tackle my case. I followed all his recommendations and he was always there to listen to me. He was available at any time of the day through text, email, and cellphone.
On my case, I was initially assigned a court appointed attorney. After discussing my case with Mr. Sullivan, he took over the case on 23rd of January. With all our team work and his creative mind, he was able to get the case dismissed by the Grand Jury on 23rd of February (one month exactly – Case Dismissed - Outstanding Job – Very Impressive). I am very pleased with Mr. Sullivan’s Work ethics, communication, strategies, and personal skills.
Again, I would like to thank Mr. Sullivan for his help in making my life normal again!!
And out there, whoever is lost deciding an Attorney to choose from a crowd, Pick Mr. Sullivan, and I assure you that he will do his best to give you, your outstanding results.

The beginning of this year I found out I had an assault charge filed against me from last year. As it was my first time being in trouble I had no clue what to do. I went to court 2 times with a court appointed attorney who was absolutely no help. I knew if I didn't hire an attorney the court case wouldn't go in my favor.
My fiancée reached out to Mr. Sullivan and he immediately helped out. I felt so much relief after hiring him.
When we called him, we initially wanted deferred adjudication because the prosecutors had only been offering jail time through the court appointed attorney. I was planning to attend nursing school to become a registered nurse, and I knew that those plans would be ruined with an assault case on my record. Fortunately, after months of going back and forth to court, Mr. Sullivan got my case completely dismissed!
I highly recommend him as your attorney. He worked so hard for my family, and is great at what he does.
Thank you again!

Being arrested for the first time, I wasn't sure who to turn to for help. Long story short, I did something that I shouldn't have, spanked me daughter with an umbrella. I was under a lot of stress and it didn't help that her behavior was drastically changing for the worst. The next day I was questioned by the police. I waived my rights and told the police of the incident. Consequently, I was charged with a felony, Injury to a child.
I was new to Houston and I had no family or close friends. Not knowing any better I hired the worst attorney in Houston, J. Carrol. It was the worst experience EVER. The first meeting went well. He said that he had worked with the prosecutor, he knew the judge personally and that he has dealt with similar cases recently. I paid him the full retainer fee. I felt that I was in good hands until we spoke the next day. His tone, demeanor and attitude had changed. I believe his intentions were to have me indicted then charge me thousands of dollars to attempt to get me probation. He didn't even consider presenting the case to the Grand Jury. I felt frustrated, hopeless and stuck.
After speaking to my husband we decided to hire another lawyer. After doing hours of research we agreed to speak to attorney Jim Sullivan, and boy we are glad we did! He was very knowledgeable, straightforward and caring. He offers free consultations and his charges are reasonable. Our first 2 conversations lasted about 30-45 mins. I explained everything that happened in detail, he helped me understand the law and spoke about his previous cases. I felt a sense of relief when we ended our conversations. Unlike the previous attorney we had hired, Mr. Sullivan knew what he was doing. Mr. Sullivan told us that we would need to prepare a Grand Jury packet, he explained the process and told me exactly what he needed. Two weeks after submitting the packet to the Grand Jury, my case was dismissed!!!!!!!
There are MANY things that I liked about Mr. Sullivan; he's the person who picks up when you call (not a receptionist), he is flexible, he accepts payments plans, he is honest, he responds to calls/text within hours, he listens without interrupting, he works outside regular business hours (weekends, after 6p), he treats you like you are his priority and he is very caring. The only thing that I didn't like about this experience was the fact that I didn't find him sooner. I would definitely recommend Mr. Sullivan to family and friends.

I issue my highest recommendation to Attorney Jim Sullivan, who proved to be an honest, hard-working professional that thoroughly defended my ex-husband and friend, Johnny, when he found himself in bleak circumstances. Johnny was charged with aggravated assault nine days after he shot a man in self-defense when the man broke into his home.
On March 16, 2016, Johnny visited me, and told me that he was very concerned that a former friend and neighbor he had allowed to stay at his house for a few days was acting erratic and hostile, and that household items were missing. He said he only allowed Kyle to stay at his house to keep him from being arrested following a family argument. Due to his concerns, Johnny said that morning he repeatedly asked Kyle to leave, then told him to leave by 5:00 pm, but Kyle was still there when Johnny went home after work. I suggested he tell the man to leave one more time, and then to call the police if he refused to go.
Around 10:00 p.m. that night Johnny dialed the police after Kyle verbally threatened him and again refused to leave. Once the police were called, Kyle did exit the house, and Johnny locked all the doors. Witnesses outside the house verified that Kyle returned minutes later, beat on the front door, yelled threats, and then entered the house through the garage and then doggie door. Kyle had apparently disabled the garage door lock. Johnny, 53, was disabled from a duty-related accident that left one leg slightly crooked and held together with titanium rods. In addition, a motorcycle accident the previous year left him unable to form a complete fist on his writing hand and he had a titanium elbow. The bottom line was that Johnny could not run and he could not defend himself. Therefore, in self-defense, he shot Kyle in the upper chest when he got within a foot of him, fists up and yelling. Police came, Kyle was taken for treatment, and initially Kyle told the police that he was at fault and did not want to press charges.
However, nine days later Kyle pressed charges and my friend, who was a former Air Force K-9 Security Officer and a member of the Patriot Guard, was arrested. After Johnny posted a bond, he missed his first court date because he wasn’t notified of it. He then contacted Mr. Sullivan, who took his case even though he could not pay him right away and managed to get his bond re-instated. Sadly, the day before the new court date Johnny was on his way to get a loan on his motorcycle to pay the attorney when he was involved in another motorcycle accident. Mr. Sullivan kept working on Johnny’s case even though Johnny was hospitalized for 23 days and consequently lost his job.
Johnny remarked on how much time and effort Mr. Sullivan took to gather witness statements and to write a persuasive defense packet for the grand jury. He visited Johnny multiple times at the hospital and at his home, and took photographs of the house to give the grand jury a clear idea of how events unfolded. He gave Johnny hope that things would get better. As a direct result of Mr. Sullivan’s efforts, Johnny’s aggravated assault case was no billed.
Although his health worsened and Johnny passed away a few weeks ago, he was vindicated in defending himself in his own home. Johnny died at home in his own bed, a free man.
I fully recommend Mr. Sullivan as a fair, thorough attorney for anyone who finds themselves in a difficult situation, and needs help and hope. Thank you Jim for helping my friend.

On March 4, 2016, my son was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in Montgomery County. Around 1am that night 5 men came to my son’s apartment in 2 different vehicles, one stolen along with guns, ski masks and gloves. My son heard them outside and looked from the balcony and saw one of them attempting to steal his car. Afraid and uncertain he grabbed his gun and yelled "get the hell away from my car!" The other 4 guys were heading to his apartment so my son fired 3-4 warning shots with the intention to scare them away. Unfortunately he struck one of them in the chest and they took off.
Not realizing at the time that one of them was hit he went back into the apartment. A couple hours later my son’s apartment was surrounded by state police and detectives. After receiving a phone call from the officers telling him what he had done he was left to surrender, but before he surrendered and afraid to go outside he dismembered the gun because he didn’t want the officers to think he was armed and dangerous.
Four days later we hired criminal defense lawyer James Sullivan to defend my son. That same day James visited my son in the jail and began to investigate his case. My son’s bond was $100,000 and he was a first time offender with a good history and awesome background, however he had gotten into a situation and we needed the best lawyer with a lot of experience and knowledge regarding criminal matters.
James Sullivan asked the prosecutor to hold the case from the grand jury so he could prepare a defense and also fought to get his bond lowered. After 3 court and bond hearings, James got the bond lowered from $100,000 all the way down to $15,000 and then we got him out. James then worked meticulously with my son, prepared and turned in a defense packet. A month later the grand jury dismissed my son's aggravated assault, however the prosecutor pushed for and got an indictment for tampering with evidence. The next day James went to court and fought to get a low bond on the new case of only $1,500 so that my son would not go back to jail.
We were thrilled to get the aggravated assault charge dismissed because it was the most serious but fully expected him to have to plead to the new charge. However at the next court hearing James Sullivan refused to settle and persuaded the prosecutor to do the right thing and dismiss the tampering charge as well. James knew that my son was not only a first time offender but also a hard working young man that was afraid for his life and simply defended himself and his property at nighttime. After an almost 6 month ordeal, my son got his life back. I have never personally met Mr. Sullivan. I live several states away, but he handled these cases as if I was a resident in Texas. I am so pleased with his good work that not only would I highly recommend him to others but I will definitely keep him around. Hopefully we will never need his services again but if we do James Sullivan is definitely the man that you can count on to help you and defend you properly.

If you are reading this review in search for an attorney then I can assure you that this is the attorney you need to have. It was my first time to be caught up on the wrong side of the law more less a traffic offense and was arrested for some hours before being bailed by my wife but that was that the beginning of the case. I had to find a lawyer within a week. Being an immigrant and first time to deal with lawyers it was a big puzzle I had to rely on google search and it took a positive review some woman posted on James Sullivan page to convince me that I was at the right site. When I called him it was around 6pm I thought I will be told to call following morning since it was after business hrs but he had all the time to listen to my story and offered possible solutions or approach we should use to fight case in court and he assured me he will do his best. He lived by his word, he was very professional through out my four court appearances. I was expecting an arrest but I walked out free. During the entire trial my job was not affected as everyday I was able to go work despite this case going on. Iam so thankful to God for the right and professional attorney James Sullivan and I commend him to anyone who has a hopeless or complicated case, his knowledge and experience is the best.

Jim Sullivan is an honest hard working attorney that I would trust with anything. We had a very delicate family matter concerning two of our children regarding sexual abuse allegations. Jim listened to the allegations and was diligent in understanding the point of view of the accused, and that we just wanted to get them both the correct help. Jim spent a lot of time that first evening with our 11 year old son first to understand his side of the story about what happened with his older sister and then to just talk about how important it is to be on the right path in life, to have a good moral compass and to work hard to become a man of honor. Jim went above and beyond reinforcing the values that we have worked hard to instill in him.
Our son was charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, a serious felony. As we went through the legal process we discovered a lot of details and evidence that showed there were many fabricated details by our daughter. Our daughter herself had been abused at a young age by an older cousin, and Jim explained that our daughter was probably grooming and acting out on her younger brother and that he was the actual victim. Our daughter’s therapist even suggested that she might have a mental health condition that would explain the extreme length that she went through to fabricate stories against him.
Jim was well prepared and confident he could persuade the prosecutor to dismiss the charges. He scheduled a meeting with us and the prosecutor a few days after the first court setting to go over the new evidence. As he predicted, the prosecutor agreed to dismiss the case and would not seek charges against our daughter. Jim was very supportive during this trying time, and he even declined to take the remaining payment that we had agreed upon because he wanted us to use the money to help pay for the therapy for both our children. We appreciate all Jim has done for us and our family. Our road is still challenging, but Jim Sullivan made this first step in the process a lot smoother!!!

In late May of 2016 my 15 year old son was arrested and taken to the juvenile detention center for a felony crime he did not commit, Deadly Conduct. After being falsely accused and wrongfully admitted to the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center, I met with and hired Mr. Sullivan. He walked us through the process and helped my family and son better understand what needed to be done. The day of the detention hearing in court, we had all of the proof and evidence to help get my son out of detention. The judge of the court was completely unjust. After refusing to consider the video evidence that proved my innocent or to even hear from my family members who were willing to supervise my son at all times if released, the judge quickly ruled to keep my innocent son detained. Mr. Sullivan was furious at the system that caused my son to be arrested and held for a crime he did not commit while at the same time the adult who actually committed the crime was only charged with a misdemeanor and spent just a few days in jail. Mr. Sullivan immediately requested a trial by jury. We were able to get a trial setting in the next 3 weeks, which was amazing considering the fact that most cases take 3-6 months or longer to get to a trial. Mr. Sullivan explained that court-appointed attorneys such as the one first appointed to my son's case never take cases to a jury trial, but instead only have bench trials where the judges make the final decision. If the court-appointed attorney had stayed on the case, my son would still be in detention and I believe he would probably have been found guilty by the judge. Instead, thanks to Mr. Sullivan my son was found innocent by a unanimous vote from the jury. Mr. Sullivan stopped at nothing to help our son and prove him innocent. My son walked out of detention 7 weeks later with no record. Mr. Sullivan's knowledge of the criminal and juvenile justice systems helped in so many ways. Mr. Sullivan was not pushy, arrogant, or air-headed like most attorneys. Instead, he kept a down-to-earth low-profile, encouraged my son as if he were his own and won our case successfully and peacefully. Thank you so much Mr. Sullivan for helping my family and my son!
