I was charged with the felony of endangering a child after speeding and briefly racing at nighttime on the freeway. My 5-year-old was asleep on the backseat and not buckled in. He spoke to several prosecutors in the court and in hope that they would drop it down or to at least give me a pretrial intervention but none of them agreed. The case was frustrating already and even I started to give up, but he didn’t. He just wouldn’t take no for an answer. He tried one more person much higher up in the DA’s office, and thankfully she agreed to give me the opportunity to participate in a 2-year pre-trial intervention. It was the best feeling ever. Sullivan worked that hard because I am a resident and he told me that I could be deported or denied citizenship if I pled guilty even to a deferred adjudication. My wife and two children are U.S. citizens, and I was afraid I would get sent back and lose my family forever. I am thrilled about the outcome and grateful for Mr. Sullivan’s efforts. I cannot thank Jim Sullivan as much as I want to for the huge help with my case in Harris County. I was falsely accused of theft at work, fired and charged with theft. When I got arrested for a DWI 2nd in Fort Bend County, I found out I also had a felony warrant for theft out of Jefferson County. I hired a lawyer for the DWI case, and that lawyer referred me to Jim Sullivan for the theft case. I am so glad he did. About 6 years ago, I had a drug problem and I stole... over $10,000 from my employer to pay back a dealer the money I owed him. My boss found out and called the cops. I told the cop I did it and I would pay it back. I went with him to the station and signed a statement. The cop told me I would get papers in the mail telling me when to go to court. I waited 5 months, didn’t get anything and moved back to Houston. I thought the case had been dropped and then I got arrested. I told Mr. Sullivan that I did it and just wanted probation on the felony theft. When I later told him I was not a U.S. citizen and had come here as a child, he told me a felony probation would get me deported. I got real scared because I have a wife and 3 kids. Mr. Sullivan looked into the case and found out that the place I had worked for had been bought by another company and then closed down. He told me that he talked to the new company and they did not care about my case and might not even have any records from the theft. Mr. Sullivan told me I should go to trial and beat the case, but I did not want to risk it. Even still, Mr. Sullivan got the prosecutor to give me a really good deal. Instead of a felony, I got a misdemeanor with only a week in jail. And, I did not have to pay any of the money back! No restitution, no fine, no court costs and no probation fees! I even did less time on the theft than on the DWI! Mr. Sullivan did a great job! He saved me and my family! If I had been deported, I would have lost everything. My family could not survive without me. One of my kids has asthma and has to go to the doctor a lot. My wife could not raise our kids on her own. Instead, now I can stay here and keep working to support my family. What do you say to someone who saves you and your family? Words are not enough. I will always be grateful for what Mr. Sullivan did for me and my family.

After an episode in May 2013, I faced 3rd degree felony charges for domestic violence by impending breathing. Initially, I hired another attorney but he did not perform as I expected and that is why I met with Jim Sullivan. Reviews on AVVO were very positive which gave me a good feeling. I was planning to become a U.S. citizen, but Sullivan told me that a felony probation or even a misdemeanor family violence conviction would result in my deportation. His goal was to persuade the prosecutor to get my case reduced to a misdemeanor in such a way that I could still stay in the United States. Finally, after 8 months, Sullivan got my felony charge reduced to a misdemeanor reckless assault. Instead of 2 to 10 years in prison, I got one year of deferred adjudication probation. There were tough moments when I was depressed and wanted to give up fighting the case, but Sullivan always stood up and helped me both as a professional and as a good friend.
