Juvenile Law Expert

My son was charged with sexual misconduct. My wife and I consulted with Mr. Sullivan about this accusation. Not only was Mr. Sullivan knowledgeable but has a very caring demeanor and style about him. When you have a young child that is charged with such a terrible thing this situation is extreme ...scary and frustrating. It comes with high level of anxiety of what may happen to your child. He walked us through the steps of his strategy and what the process would like moving forward. He immediately engaged with law enforcement and made sure they knew we would comply with all requests. Mr. Sullivan prepped my son and entire family for his interview with the investigator. He was also present and did a great job mediating the interview with clarifying questions as to not lead my son but protect him, while ensuring the truth came out. My son was cleared of all wrong doing and charges. That's 100% to Mr. Sullivan's work. He's reasonably affordable and for the price you are going to get a great defense attorney in particular one who specializes in Juvenile law. Highly recommend James if you're kids find themselves in a situation like this.

Thank you for your kind review. As a general rule, I do not advise clients to speak with law enforcement. However, on a few occasions over the past 29 years, after I have thoroughly discussed the allegations in extreme detail with a client, I have suggested it as the end result could be that the investigator closes the investigation and does not seek charges to be filed. I only suggest this approach when the allegations are either completely false or the alleged misbehavior is actually consensual and there is defense evidence to support it. I am pleased that I could help your son get cleared of the false accusation against him. I hope the rest of his life is smooth sailing.

VERY Grateful Parents

As parents, we never foresee having to go through the horrors of the court system! We found ourselves in that position in January 2018, when our adult son had an arrest warrant out for a serious felony sex crime. We met with Attorney James Sullivan for several hours at his office, discussing the ...facts of the case and my son’s life story. Mr. Sullivan took the time to really get to know my son who has autism and the difficulties in life my son has experienced. Mr. Sullivan is extremely knowledgeable about the autism spectrum and Asperger’s syndrome. He recommended getting testing and books and resources for him and us. James Sullivan prepared us for the first appearance in court. He advised us to hire a bondsman before going to court. We had the bond in place and the bondsman in the courtroom. Mr. Sullivan was able to get the judge to set a reasonable bond. Our son was able to walk from the courtroom to 49 San Jacinto with his bondsman for processing. He spent NOT ONE MINUTE in jail waiting, which could have been hours or days. For someone with Asperger’s syndrome, that was HUGE. The anxiety level was already off the charts and taking away time in jail gave him room to breathe! We spent 9 months under the shadow of what was to come. Because our son is honest and had told the truth, the court didn’t have much room for mercy. But, over the months, Mr. Sullivan worked with the prosecutor to make sure he saw a man and not just a docket number or a crime. Mr. Sullivan made sure that he knew what the autism spectrum and Asperger’s syndrome are and the effects they have on our son. At the conclusion, Mr. Sullivan was able to get a reduced charge and probation with deferred adjudication. As bad as it is, our son often comments on how much worse it could be for him! James Sullivan was, without a doubt, a gift to our family. Honesty and integrity covered in compassion was our total experience with him. We recommend him highly to any family who finds themselves in the crisis and chaos of the criminal system. With all the lawyers in Houston, it is beyond belief that we found James Sullivan, who was the perfect match for our son and us. We are eternally grateful to him. We are very blessed. Grateful Parents

A truly excellent attorney who truly cares and is on a mission

I’m so fortunate to have hired James Sullivan who truly cares about you and your family. I spent almost a year knowing Mr. Sullivan and I have to say he was the most caring, thoughtful and supportive person during this entire ordeal. My son made a terrible decision and committed a sex felony at ...13 years old. Our first attorney, a CPS attorney, said he hadn’t received any correspondence from CPS or Harris County Juvenile Probation department. He told us more than likely the case was closed because it had been over a year. However, six months later, we were served with a petition that my son was charged with a serious sex felony. Lesson learned: Do not hire a CPS Attorney but hire a Juvenile Defense Attorney and save money and time. Thus, I had three days to hire an attorney to defend my son. I next hired a criminal defense attorney recommended by my CPS lawyer. Our second attorney turned out to be the worst nightmare of my life. My wife and I did some research and we selected James Sullivan for his proven record. Mr. Sullivan is a humble, intelligent and compassionate man who is very responsive and understanding. God bless James Sullivan, I wish we had more people in this world like him. James Sullivan arranged for our son to receive juvenile sex offender counseling with a private therapist. Mr. Sullivan said this would be important at the final disposition hearing, and he was right. My son is a warm, kindhearted person who is friendly and demonstrates compassion. He is an A and B student who plays musical instruments and participates in school athletics. I wish schools and parents would be more proactive and have a sexual behavioral class to teach our kids right from wrong. Unfortunately, we have not progressed enough for that. I also wish cell phone companies would warn parents about the dangers of unfiltered access to the internet. As Mr. Sullivan explained, hard core pornography online has led unfathomable numbers of children worldwide to sexually abuse other children, with some children acting out as young as five. I’m writing this review because I want families in a similar situation to make the right choice and learn from my lesson. James Sullivan is your CPS, criminal defense and juvenile defense attorney all rolled up in one, but he is much more than an attorney. He is a caring, thoughtful, compassionate person on a mission to help teens. Mr. Sullivan, thank you for every step of the way, your light shines brighter than the stars above. If only I could have recorded Mr. Sullivan’s passionate argument for pretrial diversion in front of the Judge and the prosecuting attorney. Wow! This guy has superior trial skills! We truly are blessed, and the judge granted Mr. Sullivan’s request and gave my son deferred prosecution. His case will be dismissed in less than a year, and he can get his record sealed at 17. Great job Mr. Sullivan and God bless you!

My Experience with Mr. Sullivan

In July 2017, my then 16 year old stepson was accused of a sex crime involving a young half-sister in a different county. CPS got involved and then law enforcement. Our son denied the allegations. CPS closed their file in August with no finding, but in February we received word that we had to appear ...in court the next week. We were shocked and unprepared. After searching online, we decided to hire James Sullivan as our son’s attorney. Sullivan is board certified in juvenile law and has defended more than 100 juveniles and adults charged with sex crimes. He understands the complexities of these cases. We met with him on Friday of that week which left him only one business day to prepare. My wife spoke with Mr. Sullivan over the phone and described our son’s family history. My wife divorced her first husband, the biological father, less than a year after our son was born. The biological father himself was sexually abused by his own father as a child. During custody visits, he was not allowed to leave our son in his father’s care unsupervised, but he did so anyway. Our son has no memory of being abused by his paternal grandfather, but he may have been. When we met with Mr. Sullivan, he explained the urgency in making a decision as our son was already 17. If we fought the case at trial and won the nightmare would be over, but if we lost the consequences would be a disaster for our son’s future. At a minimum, the DA’s office would seek a determinate sentence which would lead to a public record of an adult probation or even prison sentence that could never be sealed. Mr. Sullivan would do whatever our son wanted, but he said he could probably persuade the DA to let our son have probation until age 18 and our son would have to finish the sex offender treatment program. After our son described what happened when he visited his half-sister and her outcry the next morning, Mr. Sullivan said the specific details, the immediate outcry and his family history made the allegations seem credible. He asked our son if he would be willing to take a polygraph test. As fortune would have it, he was able to schedule a polygraph that same afternoon. Unfortunately, our son failed the polygraph and then came clean about what he did. We met back with Mr. Sullivan and our son said he wanted to try and get probation. We only had to go to court twice. Mr. Sullivan worked out a great deal with the DA. Our son will be on probation for less than 9 months and will have to finish the treatment program. If he does so, he will not have to register as a sex offender and will be able to get his record sealed. Mr. Sullivan took a genuine, vested interest in our son as a person and a young man facing an incredible ordeal. We couldn’t have asked for any better representation nor do I think we would have gotten it. This wasn’t about a win in court, this was about making sure that the rest of my son’s life would not be defined by one terrible moment. Mr. Sullivan is everything one needs a lawyer to be. His expertise is time and money well invested. If you or your family need representation, I highly recommend that you put your faith in Mr. Sullivan as my wife, son, and I did.

Thanks for saving our son’s life!

Our 17 year old son was falsely accused of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Our family is truly grateful for your kindness, expertise, hard work and dedication in working to get his case dismissed. Our son has Asperger’s syndrome (autism spectrum disorder), ADHD and other learning disabiliti...es. Although I have been divorced from my son’s biological father for 16 years, his father continued to be abusive towards my son when they were together. At the time of the accusation, my son had just turned 17, which meant that he would be charged as an adult and if convicted would have to register as a sex offender for life. This would have destroyed him, our family and those of our other children. In July 2016, I learned that his biological father and his wife were accusing my son of a serious sex crime against their son. My son is a very honest child. He tells me everything. With his father, he was always scared of him so he would do whatever he said. His father and his stepmom both claimed that my son confessed to this alleged crime against his half-brother who also was autistic and has Prader-Willi syndrome. His half-brother had gotten in trouble at school for inappropriately touching a teacher and exposing himself to other children, but instead of figuring out the problem there, my son was accused of a serious sex crime. In Feb 2017, I received a call from the police dept. I was told that my son had a warrant out for his arrest and to bring him to the county jail. That night I searched the internet and found our angel, Attorney Jim Sullivan. I didn't know that criminal lawyers had autistic specialties. I read the reviews. I instantly knew that he was it. God sent him to us. That next day, my husband (his stepdad) and I brought our son in, paid bond, and took him to the county jail. That was a scary nightmare. I immediately called Jim Sullivan. I called, and I was shocked. He answered immediately. We literally spent hours on the phone. He was incredible. I felt as if I was talking to one of my family members. He answered all of my questions. This was one of the most terrifying times in our lives. We knew our son was innocent, but it didn't seem to matter to the other parties involved or the law. So many things went wrong in the process while booking him in. He was supposed to be in and out, but he was in jail for 19 hours. Being autistic, that was extremely scary and confusing. Our son did not understand why his dad would say that he did something so awful and he didn't understand why when he's innocent that he was treated like he was. Jim Sullivan was there every second of the process. We met with him the next day. He was amazing. He truly understood Jade and listened to everything we had to say. He was so kind. His fees were reasonable and he truly, truly cared about our son and freeing him from this nightmare. I believe he put his whole heart into it as if my son was a part of his family. Jim is a unique man and lawyer. He was always there and always had a very quick, if not immediate response, when contacting him. We only had to go to one court one time. Jim Sullivan and his associate Nancy Botts prepared a very thorough defense packet. In mid-April 2017, our case went to the grand jury. That afternoon we got a call from Jim saying his case was no billed (dismissed). Those of you who are reading this, don't look any further. Jim Sullivan is THE one. It was one of these reviews that made me know that he was the one. Jim always knew that our son was innocent and although this was an extremely difficult case, Jim did it. He freed our son of this horrific crime, gave him his life back, and freed him of his father for good. I have dealt with other lawyers. There is no one out there like this man. Look no further. Call Jim Sullivan.
