On March 4, 2016, my son was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in Montgomery County. Around 1am that night 5 men came to my son’s apartment in 2 different vehicles, one stolen along with guns, ski masks and gloves. My son heard them outside and looked from the balcony and saw one of them ...attempting to steal his car. Afraid and uncertain he grabbed his gun and yelled "get the hell away from my car!" The other 4 guys were heading to his apartment so my son fired 3-4 warning shots with the intention to scare them away. Unfortunately he struck one of them in the chest and they took off. Not realizing at the time that one of them was hit he went back into the apartment. A couple hours later my son’s apartment was surrounded by state police and detectives. After receiving a phone call from the officers telling him what he had done he was left to surrender, but before he surrendered and afraid to go outside he dismembered the gun because he didn’t want the officers to think he was armed and dangerous. Four days later we hired criminal defense lawyer James Sullivan to defend my son. That same day James visited my son in the jail and began to investigate his case. My son’s bond was $100,000 and he was a first time offender with a good history and awesome background, however he had gotten into a situation and we needed the best lawyer with a lot of experience and knowledge regarding criminal matters. James Sullivan asked the prosecutor to hold the case from the grand jury so he could prepare a defense and also fought to get his bond lowered. After 3 court and bond hearings, James got the bond lowered from $100,000 all the way down to $15,000 and then we got him out. James then worked meticulously with my son, prepared and turned in a defense packet. A month later the grand jury dismissed my son's aggravated assault, however the prosecutor pushed for and got an indictment for tampering with evidence. The next day James went to court and fought to get a low bond on the new case of only $1,500 so that my son would not go back to jail. We were thrilled to get the aggravated assault charge dismissed because it was the most serious but fully expected him to have to plead to the new charge. However at the next court hearing James Sullivan refused to settle and persuaded the prosecutor to do the right thing and dismiss the tampering charge as well. James knew that my son was not only a first time offender but also a hard working young man that was afraid for his life and simply defended himself and his property at nighttime. After an almost 6 month ordeal, my son got his life back. I have never personally met Mr. Sullivan. I live several states away, but he handled these cases as if I was a resident in Texas. I am so pleased with his good work that not only would I highly recommend him to others but I will definitely keep him around. Hopefully we will never need his services again but if we do James Sullivan is definitely the man that you can count on to help you and defend you properly.

In late May of 2016 my 15 year old son was arrested and taken to the juvenile detention center for a felony crime he did not commit, Deadly Conduct. After being falsely accused and wrongfully admitted to the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center, I met with and hired Mr. Sullivan. He walked us thro...ugh the process and helped my family and son better understand what needed to be done. The day of the detention hearing in court, we had all of the proof and evidence to help get my son out of detention. The judge of the court was completely unjust. After refusing to consider the video evidence that proved my innocent or to even hear from my family members who were willing to supervise my son at all times if released, the judge quickly ruled to keep my innocent son detained. Mr. Sullivan was furious at the system that caused my son to be arrested and held for a crime he did not commit while at the same time the adult who actually committed the crime was only charged with a misdemeanor and spent just a few days in jail. Mr. Sullivan immediately requested a trial by jury. We were able to get a trial setting in the next 3 weeks, which was amazing considering the fact that most cases take 3-6 months or longer to get to a trial. Mr. Sullivan explained that court-appointed attorneys such as the one first appointed to my son's case never take cases to a jury trial, but instead only have bench trials where the judges make the final decision. If the court-appointed attorney had stayed on the case, my son would still be in detention and I believe he would probably have been found guilty by the judge. Instead, thanks to Mr. Sullivan my son was found innocent by a unanimous vote from the jury. Mr. Sullivan stopped at nothing to help our son and prove him innocent. My son walked out of detention 7 weeks later with no record. Mr. Sullivan's knowledge of the criminal and juvenile justice systems helped in so many ways. Mr. Sullivan was not pushy, arrogant, or air-headed like most attorneys. Instead, he kept a down-to-earth low-profile, encouraged my son as if he were his own and won our case successfully and peacefully. Thank you so much Mr. Sullivan for helping my family and my son!

My daughter Ja’Shandrah Dixon was falsely accused of Aggravated Assault on a family member back in May 2015. Terence Batiste, her baby’s daddy, has a history of family violence against her, abuses drugs and has mental problems. In fact, my daughter had sought a protective order against this man just ...a few weeks before this and the DA’s office refused to grant it. On this day in May, Terence threw his bicycle in front of her moving vehicle with their young son and a family friend inside to force her to come to a screeching halt. He then cursed at her. The family friend was scared for her life and told her to drive on. To get away from him, she drove over his bicycle. Terence then lied to the police, saying she was trying to kill him. Witnesses said they heard her break but did not see her run over him. The sheriff’s deputy did not take statements from the passengers in the car. Instead, they arrested her and she was held in jail on a high bond. I called many attorneys but could not afford them. I finally came across Attorney James Sullivan and told him about the arrest of my daughter. He told me what he charges to take on a case like this and was willing to work with me by way of a payment plan. Attorney Sullivan was a Godsend from the very beginning. His personality was that of someone you’ve known all your life which made me comfortable in working with him. He immediately got her bond cut in half so I could bond her out. Afterwards, we all met with Attorney Sullivan. The three of us went over the case, and he told us he wanted to fight her case at the Grand Jury and that it would be much quicker and less expensive than fighting it at a jury trial. He explained the difference between having the case dismissed by the State and having it no billed by the Grand Jury. I must say Mr Sullivan is a man of his word. I have a pretty long record so when I had got arrested for Aggravated assault on a family member for my 3rd time, I seriously believed that there was NO hope, but I was wrong. Mr sullivan made sure to make my case a top priority and reassured me that every...thing would be just fine when I had my doubts, due to my past convictions. My ex girlfriend tried to assault me with a broken wine bottle when i kept telling her i no longer wanted to be with her but when I kept attempting to keep the glass from cutting either one if us, she accidently got hurt in the process. I helped her clean her wound but I asked her to leave as I felt that night had already brought too much drama, and she was highly intoxicated and persistent about gettin aggressive if I didn't take her back. A month later a warrant was issued for my arrest and I got picked up by the police at my home one morning. I'm forever grateful that I found out about the warrant right before I got arrested because I read about Mr. Sullivan on Google and I decided that he was the man that I wanted to handle my case. My punishment ranges from 2-20 years and I knew for sure with my long record and the seriousness of that crime that the d.a wouldn't offer me the minimum. Mr sullivan was very down to earth and really cared about gettin this case dismissed for me so that I could get back in school and continue my life as a productive member of society. Several weeks passed because the prosecutor kept delaying the process, and I started to get a bit discouraged but Mr. Sullivan's confidence and reassurance about my case and all of the evidence he gathered for me helped me so much. Sure enough everything he told me that he would do, he did. He got my case dismissed and I'm back in school just like he said to me. My husband owned his own business. Due to the bad economy and not being paid on a project, one of his business checks written to a supplier bounced. We thought that the supplier would work with us, but they did not. In March of 2014, my husband was charged with a felony theft by check, a very serious... charge. We have four children and he was the sole provider for our family at the time. We contacted five attorneys and met with all five, Jim Sullivan being the last appointment. Throughout that day and night and ever since, Sullivan was there with complete understanding and reassurance that we would be okay. I was able to contact him several times throughout that initial traumatic day by phone and text message. He advised me to get the hospital to fax over records showing that he was in hospital and could not be in court. Unfortunately, they did not do so and by the time I got his discharge papers the court had already revoked his bond. Sullivan contacted the court, explained the situation and told them that he was my husband’s attorney whether he had been paid yet or not, persuaded the court to reinstate the bond and to give my husband a longer reset. Sullivan was genuinely interested in and cared about my husband’s health and the overall well-being of my family. There were times that he was one of the only people I could turn to that was telling me everything was going to work out in our lives and in the charges against my husband. I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason and that God puts people in our lives for a reason.
