State Jail Felony

I hire Mr. Sullivan to represent me on my High Profile Case. From the very beginning Mr. Sullivan was very responsive every time a needed him to take my call he answered all my questions and made sure I was at ease throughout the case. He manage to get one of the two cases dismissed and keep me out o...f jail. He was always on time on court appearances and fought to get the best outcome possible. My family and I are very happy with our decision to hire attorney James Sullivan. Very professional and at no time I felt misrepresented. Thank you Mr. Sullivan for taking me as your client and for the outcome obtained at court.

Thank you for your kind review. Indeed, your case made headlines in the U.S. as well as in other countries. I did my best to shield you from harassing news reporters and deliberately ignored calls from local and international news reporters until their interest faded. I am pleased that the DA finally agreed to dismiss one of your third degree felony cases and reduce the other to a state jail felony and also agreed to a deferred adjudication probation so you will be able to get your record sealed (non-disclosed) in the future. I hope you learn from this misadventure and do great things with your life going forward.

Exceptional & genuine experience

My family and I contacted James Sullivan to assist us on a first time misdemeanor case for my younger brother. We have never had any issues with the law and did not know where to start. Mr. Sullivan was knowledgeable, strategic, and truly showed a genuine interest and belief in my brothers case. ...He continually made sure to act in the best interest of his client and not just take the easy way out or the first offer. My brother suffers from a mental illness so making sure he got the help he needed was a priority. Although I hope to not need Mr. Sullivan’s services again. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing his legal representation. He was dependable, responsive, professional, and all around pleasure to work with.

Thank you for your kind review. Your brother's story is one I will always remember. He has suffered so much loss and trauma in his life. Thanks to his loving siblings and his strong resilience, he has the opportunity to live a full life. I am very pleased he is on the right track now. I hope your family has many blessings going forward.

Family assault (repeat off.)

I'll be honest I'm no stranger to the legal system, and I don't mean that like I studied it or something. Yea I went to jail a lot when I was younger. Anyways I found myself facing a felony back in 2018. I'm no stranger to lawyers and I was of the opinion that all lawyers were frauds. I went to ja...il so much I started representing myself cause what my lawyers were doing I could accomplish myself. So of course with a felony it's different I hired a lawyer. I wasn't financially able to hire great representation and hired a 2k lawyer, who promised me the world and made it sound like the case you be easy. I blame him for me going to prison, well I plead guilty cause I was fighting the case from inside county jail. Ok so being a "convicted" felon I found myself facing another felony in July of 22 for the same thing. If you know anything about the courts, it is once your guilty your always guilty. So I knew I couldn't just hire any joe schmo. So I researched a few and Mr. Sullivan stood out to me. I gave him a call and explained my situation, I could tell on the phone I was going to like him. One thing I can say for sure about Mr. Sullivan besides him actually being a lawyer that cares about his clients is he just enjoys winning, you can hear it when he talks. So I went to prison for three years ago for my first charge of Family violence, like I stated earlier I went to prison because of my lawyer. So yea things were not looking good for me and I knew it was serious. However Mr Sullivan met it with a stillness and confidence that let me know, yea it's gonna cost me, but this guy is going to keep me from prison. The "victim" was a stumbling drunk and a violent one at that. So there's no confusion as to why I was facing this situation again. Mr. Sullivan did his research asked, the right questions and approached the case from the right angle. The end result of him speaking to the D.A. one time after a year of what seemed they were dodging. Case dismissed!!! Like I said you can tell that Mr. Sullivan just enjoys beating the system and out smarting the DA's he cares about his clients and approaches his cases with a zeal I've not met in any lawyer. God forbid I ever have to use him again, but if I so happen to find myself in need of council again I will definitely be going to Mr. Sullivan guaranteed, and would recommend him to anyone who wants to stay out of prison. His record speaks for itself but I can attest to the validity of his record. Hands down great lawyer and worth it. You can't put a price on freedom.

Thank you David for your kind review. I am pleased the DA dismissed your case on the eve of my setting it for trial. I cannot speak to your prior lawyers' representation, but I will say defense attorneys should investigate the facts of the allegation first and that can take a lot of time. Attorneys also should not take on more cases than they can handle, which is why we limit the number of cases we take on. I hope the rest of your life is smooth sailing.

Gone Golfing

I got arrested on an aggravated assault charge and was very concerned, stressed and anxious with what was going to happen to me because you are no longer in control of your life. I contacted James Sullivan and he got with me in a timely manner and after meeting with him, I looked no further. He is ...a knowledgeable, trustworthy, intelligent person that will work hard for you. He suggested an approach that I had not even considered. He said it is much faster than a jury trial, as felony jury trials could take between one to two years because of the backup due to Covid. He also charged less than a trial fee. WIthin two months of hiring him, James investigated, prepared, and turned in a thorough defense packet for the grand jury to consider. It took the prosecutor two more months before he presented the case, and the grand jury dismissed my case. Another thing about James that I appreciated was the customer service. When I called him he answered the phone, and when I texted him, I would get a quick response. I can't thank him enough for what he has done for me, and I highly recommend him for any criminal matter you may have. Thanks again, James!

Thank you for your kind review. It was my pleasure. By going over the scene with you and other key witnesses, we were able to piece together the full story of what happened and what was at the heart of the huge misunderstanding. If law enforcement had not rushed and had instead conducted a thorough investigation, you probably would not have been charged with a crime. I hope your life is smooth sailing going forward.

Jim Spares You the Anxiety of Court Trials

A couple years ago, I received a DV felony based on the false and emotionally-charged testimony of my then-partner. This was especially difficult because it was a long distance relationship; I lived halfway across the country. I attempted to live with her to advance our relationship, and needless to ...say, that didn't work out. Jim Sullivan has dealt with many similar DV cases as evinced in these reviews so I knew I could trust him. His strategy of getting the case dismissed by the grand jury spared me from taking multiple trips down to Texas for multiple arraignment hearings and, of course, a trial. Jim is extremely thorough in gathering info, ranging from text messages to psychological diagnoses, all in order to convince the grand jury to dismiss the case. I am endlessly thankful for his work, and we are now working on expunging the case from my file. It's like a bad dream coming to an end. Thanks again!

Thank you for entrusting us to represent you. You are a good man with a bright future. The situation you found yourself in through no fault of your own was difficult, sad, and memorable. It is common for mentally ill people such as your ex-girlfriend to minimize their illness and hide their use of marijuana and alcohol as a means to self medicate. Instead of bipolar disorder, she waited until after you had moved to Texas and worked to rent an apartment to casually remark that she had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, a more severe mental illness characterized by symptoms of schizophrenia, such as hallucinations or delusions, and symptoms of a mood disorder, such as mania and depression. These symptoms are made worse with marijuana which can lead to psychosis, which made it more difficult for her to tell what was real and what was not. When you told her you were leaving because she refused to change, she attacked you and you defended yourself by safely restraining her. After she promised to not hit you anymore, you let her up and she immediately called 911 and lied about what happened, claiming you choked her. The police performed a shoddy investigation. I am pleased I was able to get your case dismissed. And, now, we can get this nightmare behind you.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
