Crotty & Saland

Referral Overview: I was in immediate need of a criminal attorney due an unfortunate event occurring at JFK International Airport during September 2012. I was exceptionally pleased with the services provided by the law firm of Crotty & Saland, which included the services of Elizabeth Crotty and Jer...emy Saland. They were extremely responsive to my immediate situation, professional in all respects during their representation, communicated exceptionally well throughout the legal proceedings, and were tremendously proficient in their knowledge of my particular circumstance. As a result, they were able to get a misdemeanor and felony charge completely dismissed. I could not be more pleased with their services and professionalism. Case Details During September 2012, I arrived at United Airlines First Class counter at JFK to check my luggage and obtain a boarding pass to San Francisco. I had arrived in NYC from another destination two days earlier and was carrying, in my checked luggage, an unloaded semi automatic handgun. I had been through several airports prior to the NY trip and had disclosed the handgun to airline officials and TSA, as is required under both United Airlines and TSA policies on their respective websites. As an avid target shooter, I frequently carry a handgun on business trips in order to mix business with my passion. In all such previous trips, and through multiple airports throughout the country, I have never experienced ANY incident or dispute with an airline or TSA. I disclosed the firearm to the ticket agent who, instead of notifying TSA, notified the Port Authority. Several officers from the Port Authority Police showed up and, after some discussion, arrested me for 1) having an unlicensed handgun in NYC – a misdemeanor, (I was visiting the state, not living there), and 2) carrying a concealed weapon – a felony (it was in a locked/hard sided case in my checked baggage, and properly disclosed to the United). The actions of the ticket agent and United Airlines were disgraceful. As a United Million-Mile flyer and a lifetime Premier Executive flyer, I will never fly United again. It should be noted, as a business executive at 59 years of age, with both an undergraduate business and MBA degree, I have never been arrested, and only two minor traffic citations issued during my entire life. I was transported to the PA Police facility at JFK and held there for five hours while they processed paperwork. I was then transported to the Queens County Courthouse Detention Facility for arraignment where I was informed it was taking approximately 48 hours for processing and arraignment of “prisoners”. I was fortunately able to connect with Crotty & Saland located in NYC. Both Elizabeth Crotty and Jeremy Saland were both immediately responsive to my situation. Faced with the prospect of me languishing in the filthy confines of the Queens Detention Facility for 48 hours, I needed a firm that would be able to immediately get an arraignment time set. Crotty & Saland was engaged to represent me. Jeremy Saland was successful in getting the Court Clerk to set the arraignment for 1 AM that night (crime is good in Queens). Not only did Crotty & Saland get me released effectively two days early, Jeremy Saland drove to the Queens County Court for the arraignment. When Jeremy Saland arrived at the Detention Facility, he was on crutches having undergone surgery on his knee. He made the effort to drive down at 1 AM to manage the arraignment, and did so having to deal with a significant medical issue. After two subsequently appearances (eight weeks in duration), Jeremy Saland was successful at getting both charges entirely dismissed. The dedication, professionalism, personalization and communication were exceptional. I would, without hesitation, recommend the firm of Crotty & Saland, and both the principals of Jeremy Saland and Elizabeth Crotty, to any individual in need of a criminal defense.

Best defender in NYC

I am a 70 year old physician from the upper Midwest. I was in NYC for a medical meeting and when leaving via LaGuardia I was surprised when my carry on case was found to have a single 9 mm bullet under the lining by the internal supports for the wheel. I knew NYC laws were rather draconian and woul...d never have taken a weapon there. I had, a year and a half earlier, carried some boxes of 9mm ammo in the case while attending a training course in Nevada. Since that time I had traveled in the USA and twice to foreign counties and no one had ever noted the bullet when the case passed through the screening X-ray. I was issued a summons and was amazed at the potential fine for a bullet I did not know was in the case. I asked my home attorney to help locate a legal counsellor in NYC. Jeremy Saland was highly recommended. I first contacted him on a weekend day by email and got a reply that day. We spoke on the phone and by email and he.was very knowledgable and quite reassuring. He lived up to the high recommendation and was successful in getting an ACD resolution . I recommend him without reservation.

Successful

A traffic stop in nyc lead to my arrest because of a suspended lisc. After being arrested in booked I was search and caught with stuff. That prompted them to search my car, where they found my gun. The laws in NYC are very different compared to the south. Though my gun was legally registered in the s...tate I lived in, I was in for serious charges. The very small amount of stuff didn't help. I'll be honest I was terrified of what kind of position this situation could have had on my job and life. I contacted Jeremy, explained. He got in touch with the D.A, Setup a meeting. I spoke with the D.A, Jeremy negotiated a deal. My case is over and I have no record. I put my whole story out because I know the feeling of being in trouble and worried. Jeremy made me feel comfortable, he knew exactly what he was doing. He worked out a payment plan and all. I'm thankful I chose his firm.

Arrested checking a gun at La Guardia Airport

I am a Washington state resident and have a permit for my handgun. After traveling with it to New York, following all of the airline and FAA requirements I was arrested and charged with a class C felony. The gun had been unloaded and in a locked hardsided case. The ammunition was in it's original con...tainer. At no time had the gun been loaded and I declared it as checked baggage as soon as I approached the ticket counter. I hired Mr. Saland after interviewing six attorneys. He was extremely knowledgable, very straightforward while being personable and gave me confidence in his ability to handle my case. I was very pleased with how he handled my case. I have never been arrested before, have always abided by the law. Mr Saland was able to convince the District Attorney to reduce the charge to a violation, the case will be sealed and I will not have a record. I was extremely pleased with the outcome of the case and Mr. Saland's expertise in handling it.

Trying to check a firearm at LaGuardia airport case.

I was traveling to NYC from my home state of Alabama to visit a friend for the weekend and thought that I was following all the requirements for checking a handgun through the airport. Arrested after declaring the firearm at LaGuardia for the flight home because I did not have a New York handgun perm...it. This is the part I overlooked. Charged with illegal possession of a "loaded" firearm (considered "loaded" in NY even though ammunition was stored in a separate case). This was a felony offense. Retained Jeremy's services through Crotty Saland LLP. I worked with Jeremy for about a month compiling personal documents and requesting character references. I am a graduate student with no prior record. Jeremy consulted with the ADA and presented my case. The outcome was what I was granted an ACD, so charges will be dropped after six months. Jeremy was always available and literally a "phone call away." He did a fine job.

"There are few criminal lawyers in New York City who are as skilled, aggressive, and compassionate as Jeremy Saland. I regularly refer him clients in New York City and Westchester and I am always pleased with the outcomes. He fights aggressively for his clients, even if it ruffles the feathers of the District Attorney's office. And as a former DA himself, Jeremy seems like he has their playbook in hand. He is always a step ahead of his adversary."

"I have known Jeremy since our days as fellow prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, where Jeremy was highly respected for his courtroom skills and knowledge of the criminal law. Since bringing those skills and knowledge to private practice, he has obtained outstanding results for his clients. In fact, when one of my civil litigation clients was arrested, and I was prevented from representing him due to a conflict of interests, I referred the case to Jeremy. Jeremy did a fantastic job and got all of the charges against my client case dismissed. Needless to say, my client and I were both very pleased and impressed with Jeremy's abilities, work ethic, and integrity throughout the entire process. Should a similar situation arise in the future, I would not hesitate to refer my client to Jeremy."
