Divorce and Separation 40%

A divorce lawyer helps you if you no longer want to be married. Whether you want a legal separation or the marriage ended, divorce lawyers assist you to arrange financial and family matters, typically in a negotiation with your spouse's lawyer. Alimony, child custody, child support, and a fair division of community assets (like who keeps the house or how your checking and savings accounts are divided) are matters that a divorce lawyer is trained to help determine.

No principality, legality, loyalty, professionalism, or integrity.

Mr. Sarieh was hired for my divorce case, concentrating on distribution and freezing my assets until the court settlement. In order to prevent my ex from abusing the fund which was removed from my joint and transferred to his personal account. Not only Mr. Sarieh did not grant my wish and interest... but against my wish and without my knowledge or consent, he authorized the respondent (my ex) to withdraw the fund from the account. Besides the time and energy which was waste, my case was damaged and postponed tremendously by his false stipulation, it takes long time and few thousand dollars cost just to clean his mess. I did not find him the He pursue his own interest rather his clients' interest or requirements.

Get Ready to Be Nickeled and Dimed

During the time Mr. Sarieh represented me, he would nickel and dime me and attempt to charge for every little thing. Sometimes after e-mailing him a document, and charging me for receiving it, he would lose the document and ask me to send it to him again. He would charge me again for e-mailing him th...e same document a second time. Mr. Sarieh also requested a 3 month continuance on a hearing from opposing counsel, even though he and I agreed it would be extremely disadvantageous to my case for him to do that. We also agreed that he would NOT request this continuance. I later realized he was busy all month and simply chose his priorities over mine. Mr. Sarieh would also breakup a simple task into several tasks so he can charge you his minimum increment for each. For example, if he receives a short fax from opposing counsel, he would (1) charge your separately for reviewing it, (2) charge you separately for scanning it, and (3) charge you separately for e-mailing it to you. If you replied, even with one word, (4) he would charge separately to review your two word reply. So for this task that would should take him no more than 6 or 7 minutes, he will charge you for 24 minutes of his time (minimum increment of 6 minutes x 4). Mr. Sarieh also charged me for 5 hours of his time for a Declaration that I mostly wrote for him and he simply reviewed. He did not write his own declaration to supplement it or add any points and authorities to legally justify our argument. While it is true, he initially gave me a $25 discount on his hourly rate, he more than well made up for it with his mistakes and unethical practices. Based on my experience, Mr. Sarieh is clearly one of those attorneys who are not interested in their clients, but simply how much money they can bill their clients. I'm not sure who wrote all of Mr. Sarieh's good reviews, but you have been warned!

I find it difficult to respond to this email without breaching the attorney-client privilege. I will keep my response to the basics. You retained our firm as your Attorney due to our family law experience and the agreed-upon strategy for your case. Our firm is very good at disclosing in great details our fee structure, including fax, phone calls and even mileage fees. I gave you an hourly rate discount which I rarely do because is not fair to my other clients to pay a full rate. I wanted to help and compromised my policy. I also know that you spoke to my paralegal and she waived your last invoice with our firm. Nevertheless, I am sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations and that you didn’t reach out to me to resolve any additional concerns. On continuing the court date: it is not up to the attorney to move the court hearing date, I informed you of the other party’s request for continuance and we both agreed to give them the continuance based on the circumstances of the pending discovery at that time. The decision was mutual made and not based on my personal calendar, the court assigned us the date, which was not under my control. I know from personal experience how emotional, expensive and challenging it can be to go through a divorce. I do value my clients’ positive and negative feedback. It is part of doing business and a learning tool for myself and my firm. Please feel free to reach out to me on my personal line if you would like to discuss any additional details or concerns

Waste of your money

Mr. Sarieh made several critical mistakes in my divorce case and withdrew important information from me that led to my loosing the former family residence and almost loosing my children. I had to hire another attorney to fix his mess and I was able to get my children back for a shared physical custod...y, lowered my child support by 50% and got half of the equity from my former residence. Mr. Sarieh failed to do that for me. His conduct in court was very unprofessional, not protecting my best interest and not objecting to any hear-say that my ex was saying about me for about 3 hours in court. Mr. Sarieh failed to get my former residence appraised, failed to subpoena essential documents from my ex and was not loyal to me when most needed. In the preparation of the final divorce agreement, Mr. Sarieh failed to add an essential paragraph about the equity in my former residence, which made me hire another attorney to fix that. His unprofessionalism, lack of loyalty, and inability to represent my best interest in court, made me hire another attorney and made my divorce cost skyrocket to about $100,000, not including my ex expenses.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
