also known as Brandon Beckham
Brandon Beckham is a staff attorney with Nevada Legal Services (NLS), a nonprofit legal aid organization that provides free civil legal assistance to eligible Nevadans. In his work with NLS, Mr. Beckham focuses on Nevada unemployment insurance appeals and related administrative litigation—helping claimants navigate the process when benefits are denied, reduced, or assessed as an overpayment.
Mr. Beckham’s practice includes representation and assistance in Nevada unemployment appeal hearings involving common eligibility issues such as alleged misconduct terminations, voluntary quits and “good cause,” job separation disputes, availability and eligibility questions, and overpayment matters (including requests for overpayment waivers where permitted). He also assists clients at subsequent levels of review, including Board of Review proceedings and Petitions for Judicial Review in the Nevada courts when appropriate. His approach is detail-oriented and evidence-driven, with an emphasis on clear hearing preparation, record development, and presenting the case in a way that is accessible to administrative decision-makers.
Before joining Nevada Legal Services, Mr. Beckham built substantial courtroom and litigation experience through public service. He has served as a Chief Public Defender, a Tribal Public Defender for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, and as a Deputy Criminal Prosecutor in Boise—roles that sharpened his skills in evidentiary hearings, cross-examination, and persuasive advocacy. That background translates naturally to unemployment appeals, where outcomes often turn on credibility, documentation, and disciplined presentation of the facts under the governing legal standards.
Mr. Beckham earned a B.A. in Philosophy from Boise State University (2006) and a J.D. from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law (2009). He also pursued graduate theological education, completing an M.A. in Theological Studies, a Master of Divinity (M.Div.), and a Th.M. in Theology through Liberty University’s School of Divinity, reflecting a longstanding commitment to service and social justice.
Mr. Beckham is passionate about protecting workers’ access to unemployment benefits and helping Nevadans understand their rights in the unemployment appeals process—from the initial appeal hearing through Board of Review and judicial review when necessary.
