Is Now Disbarred—Stole From Me

Well, this review might be useless, since you actually can't hire Jonathan Fisher as your attorney any longer as of May 21, 2021. He is disbarred. Nonetheless, I am posting it because a) I wonder if there are others who are in similar situations regarding the attorney-client relationship with Fisher ...as I am; and b) there is a possibility that attorneys now representing his prior clients in lawsuits against him for their money back are monitoring this forum and can connect with me to advise me on possible avenues for recourse against him to obtain a judgment. I was charged with reckless driving by speed in Augusta County, Virginia, in April 2020. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, hearing/trial dates were continued (postponed) numerous times, which did not seem unusual in light of the circumstances. In February 2021, I received a certified letter via USPS at my home address informing me that Fisher's law license had been suspended by the Virginia State Bar for a period of two months. I had a hearing date that fell within the dates of his suspension. He did not file timely motions with the court in my case to request a continuance, and this tardiness then required that I personally appear in court without legal counsel to explain the situation and request the continuance for a date after his license was reinstated. Throughout this entire period, Fisher was uncommunicative to both emails and text messages. The court date was delayed until June 2021 (about a week from this writing). I emailed Fisher to check in. No response. On a whim I checked the Virginia State Bar site for the status of his license and only then did I learn of his disbarment. I received no notification this time, unlike the temporary, two-month long suspension from earlier this year. If I hadn't thought to check, I would have been stood up in court next week to fend for myself. There are numerous publicly available reports on his disbarment via the American Bar Association (ABA) website as well as local Virginia publications. Fisher collected the entirety of his $2,000 fee from me in 2020. I had an installment agreement with him, and I would receive emails pressuring me to adhere to the payment schedule, which caused stress since I wanted to ensure his representation (given positive reviews here and elsewhere) and did not want to lose his service by nonpayment. I now am left—without legal counsel for a trial scheduled next week; without available funds to secure alternative representation on account of having paid my only available money to Fisher for such representation, and; without adequate time to request a continuance with the court to avoid appearing personally yet again. What Fisher did to me, and at least ten other former clients is fraudulent, plain and simple. I do not know how to initiate an effort, or join any existing one(s), to recover fees rendered for services that were never performed. Please, if you are an attorney involved in this matter, representing some of the others mentioned in the various reports against Fisher, or are able to advise me more generally on what to do for next steps in this kind of situation, I would really appreciate you reaching out to me if you can because I need help on how to proceed. In short, DO NOT HIRE JONATHAN FISHER. The Virginia State Bar has ensured he'll never appear in a Virginia courtroom again. Well, actually, apparently he often failed to appear to hearings for his client, so maybe the Virginia State Bar did not need to act to ensure this conclusion. It seems as though it was his strategy/tactic to not appear, rather than a punishment.

Worth Every Penny and Professional.

I was charged with a 1st DWI and blew a 0.19 in Montgomery County, VA. Mr. Fisher was the one attorney that made me feel most comfortable during my consult. Looking at his rate, I was concerned with the cost. Mr. Fisher was very flexible with a payment plan and helped me work it out. During the whole... process I faced with many hardships and Mr. Fisher was always available and gave amazing advice. It took 3 months from arrest to trial and Mr. Fisher always helped me and answered all my questions in a timely manner. He was always straight forward and professional when it came to answering questions I had. We attempted to work with the Commonwealth Attorney and he would not budge. They would not remove mandatory jail time, or offer a deal. We went to trial, and Mr. Fisher was professional and had a ton of evidence to back our case. Despite all these hardships Mr. Fisher got the charges completely dismissed and we won our case. The dismissal meant the world to be as I learned my lesson and have been given a second chance. He has a wealth of knowledge that will help when representing you. For anyone who is facing a DWI charge, I highly recommend hiring Mr. Fisher. He will work with you constantly and do the best working on your case and representing you.

Most experienced, talented, and available DUI/DWI lawyer the state of Virginia has to offer. 10/10

I am a student at Virginia Tech and during my time there I was charged with a DUI offense as well as a misdemeanor Hit and Run offense. I had never hired a lawyer before, but after some online research, I discovered Mr. Fisher, who was the highest rated in the area and a member of the National Colleg...e of DUI defense, and decided to take him up on his free consultation. I had expected to get rushed out of the room, told I couldn’t afford it, or that my case was not a winnable one. What I found was quite the opposite. Mr. Fisher spent what seemed like all morning explaining how DUI defenses worked, and how they could work for me, and informed me that we could work out details of how I could pay him. I hired him that day. My court case was scheduled for a few months later. During this time, Mr. Fisher was always available by text or phone, and I was always able to meet with him in person by scheduling an appointment with his secretary. My case was very complicated, but this made the entire process a smooth one and significantly reduced the stress of the whole ordeal. It was also during this time that I learned of Mr. Fishers close personal ties to Virginia Tech, and our shared interest of attending Hokie basketball games. The Commonwealth of Virginia was so convinced that I would be convicted easily, since they had multiple witnesses, that the case went to trial (no deal was offered). Mr. Fisher assured me that Montgomery County was a courtroom that he had won hundreds of cases in, and that I had nothing to worry about. We decided to enter a plea of not guilty. Before the trial began, Mr. Fisher negotiated a deal with the prosecution to completely drop the misdemeanor hit and run charge and the property damage. The prosecution was only going to try us on the DUI charge. Mr. Fisher had already accomplished half of what we had set out to do. It became apparent as the trial started that Mr. Fisher was respected by the prosecution and the judge, both of whom he was familiar and had worked with in the past. The first witness called by the prosecution was the police officer who had written the police report, and he testified that when the police questioned me, I was slurring my words, stumbling, and strongly smelled of alcohol. Mr. Fisher, who seemed to have more of a grasp of the police report than the officer that wrote it, asked the officer why the report only mentioned that I had smelled of alcohol, but had not mentioned that I was slurring my words or stumbling. He asked why those significant pieces of evidence were left out of the police report, but were included in the testimony. Mr. Fisher also questioned how the police had probable cause to arrest in the first place, since there was no actual proof of myself or anyone else operating the vehicle at the time of the accident. The judge almost dismissed the case at Mr. Fisher’s request, but wanted to hear what the rest of the witnesses had to say. The next witness was the police officer that had administered my breath and blood tests. This officer was quick to mention how high my BAC was and how the circumstantial evidence was enough to arrest me. Mr. Fisher correctly argued that both the blood test and the breath test were inadmissible because the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident could not be identified. The prosecution called more witnesses that proved to be inconsequential, and eventually the judge dismissed the case on the basis that the driver of the car could not be identified. I could not have been more impressed with how Mr. Fisher handled my case from start to finish. He created an airtight defense for me, managed to be available every time I needed him, and allowed me to pay what I could afford when I could afford it. He’s worth every penny, especially considering the seriousness of a DUI charge and how hard it is to even get it reduced in this area of Virginia. 10/10.

Reckless driving conviction... gone!

I'm not usually one to leave such a public opinion about someone online, but in this case, I think Mr. Fisher has definitely earned this review. When I hired Mr. Fisher I made it very clear that I have a lot of anxiety and was nervous about the reckless driving charge that was brought against me. I m...ade it known that I only wanted him to represent me. He took time to answer every text message, return every phone call, and even blocked out time for me to meet with him at his office. He assured me that he would take care of this charge. He was well respected by everyone in the courtroom; researched law to help fight this case. However, in the end I was convicted with reckless driving, but he immediately told me not to give up. He continued to stay in touch which really helped reduce my anxiety. Mr. Fisher didn't waste any time researching case law for an appeal. He never gave up on my case. The day before my appeal he was several hours away with another case, but traveled back for my appeal... and drove several hours back for his other case after my appeal. He could have just sent someone else from his office, but he didn't. I respect that he showed up and was able to negotiate a plea deal for me. He always did what he said he would do. It's true that we had to overcome some obstacles along the way, but he was truly the best lawyer for me. I am blessed to have hired Mr. Fisher to represent me. He is the reason I was able to get my reckless driving conviction down to an improper driving and a mere $200 fine. His services were not cheap, but he did allow for a payment plan. & I firmly believe that you get what you pay for. Mr. Fisher earned every dime that was paid to him and I am further ahead, financially, by not having to worry about my car insurance going up or losing my career... thank you Mr. Fisher, I appreciate all you've done for me!!
