I highly recommend Ryan Rakness. He very kindly represented me for my reckless driving case (80 in 55) which is a misdemeanor offense in Virginia. This is the first time (and hopefully last) I have ever needed an attorney. I was wary about having to contact one as I have a bad impression of attorneys and did not want to pay an exorbinant amount of money for services I wasn't sure I needed. (Reckless driving/excessive speed.) First of all, he and his staff were excellent about responding via phone and email and that helped a lot as our case was urgent. He was patient to listen to me and to go over all of our options. He had excellent wisdom in knowing exactly what approach should be taken. The morning of the trial, he was able to get the prosecutor and judge to agree to a lesser charge - which just carried a simple fine - rather than jail time or license suspension which were possible outcomes. He was a pleasure to work with and I am grateful he was willing to take our case. I am scared to think what would have happened if we had tried to navigate this situation without him. After receiving a speeding ticket passing through Madison county I sought out an attorney to represent me in court. I found Ryan's profile on this site and read several glowing reviews. I am extremely grateful for Ryan Rakness. I am a resident of California who was visiting Virginia for less than 24 hours and managed to get myself into some serious trouble by driving 95 in a 55. I was facing jail time in Virginia (even though my home is in LA) and a $2,500 fine, among a long list of other potential consequences- the only thing going for me, however, was my clean driving record. I probably consulted with about 20-30 lawyers in the 24 hours following the incident, and out of all of the lawyers I spoke to, I connected with Ryan the most. He spoke in a calm, factual manner and knew exactly what he was talking about- but he was also much more compassionate than the other attorneys, which was something I immediately gravitated towards.
