My path to becoming an injury attorney began long before I ever stepped into a courtroom. I served as an Airborne Ranger in the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment, where I learned discipline, preparation, and calm decision-making under pressure. During that time, I earned EMT certification and gained real hands-on experience treating traumatic injuries. That medical training stayed with me, and it continues to shape how I approach every client’s case today.
After leaving the Army due to injuries from a parachute incident, I began my legal career in 2001. For the first eight years, I worked as an insurance-defense trial lawyer for some of the largest defense firms in Florida and the United States. I defended physicians in medical malpractice cases and represented major corporations in serious personal injury and wrongful-death litigation. Those years gave me invaluable insight into how insurance companies analyze claims, create litigation strategy, and make decisions about paying (or underpaying) injured people. Knowing the insurance companies’ playbook from the inside has become one of the greatest advantages I now bring to the clients I represent.
Today, my practice is focused on personal injury, auto and truck accident litigation, premises liability, medical malpractice, maritime and cruise ship injuries, Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act claims, and Defense Base Act cases involving contractors injured overseas. I frequently represent clients with complex injuries, including cervical and lumbar herniations, shoulder and hip trauma, burns, electrocutions, PTSD, and other serious conditions. My military background, medical understanding, and litigation experience allow me to present these cases with depth, clarity, and precision.

When someone puts their case in my hands, I work tirelessly to honor that trust, whether the case involves a car accident, a maritime injury, a longshore claim, or a contractor hurt while serving America’s interests abroad.
I meet with clients at Van Riper & Nies Attorneys’ offices in Stuart, West Palm Beach, Delray Beach, Boca Raton, and Deerfield Beach, and I represent Defense Base Act clients nationwide.
