Michael Jeffrey Kessler

Although I am not a sworn officer I do work in the field of law enforcement as a civil investigator for the state. I am familiar with the court system and have sat as an expert witness on several occasions. That being said you can imagine my discomfort when I found myself accused (wrongly) of providi...ng alcohol to minors. My career, good name and self respect were all on the line. I met with Mike and his staff through a recommendation from a friend. From the first call with his receptionist I was put at ease and scheduled my initial consultation. I met with Mike approximately one week later. He was attentive and let me pour out my story pretty much without interruption. He then asked me several pertinent questions about things such as searches, location, what the FWC officer said and did, witnesses and so on. The entire time this interview was taking place Mike's demeanor was one of calmness and concern for my situation, especially the fact that I could be terminated if I was found guilty or pled no contest to the allegations. Once the Q&A was complete he reviewed his notes and proceeded to explain exactly how he expected the case to proceed and the outcome he would achieve. He also explained clearly how his services were compensated and what I could expect from he and his staff during the course of the court proceedings up to and including a trial if need be although he seriously doubted it would go that far. He calmed my concerns by detailing exactly how he planned on proving my innocence. As time went by and I received notices from the court regarding appearances I would immediately receive a letter from his office stating what if any action I needed to take. Not once did I have to call his office to ask ow I should proceed. A few days before my court date Mike and I had a twenty or thirty minute phone conversation about where we stood (young ASA was playing chicken with no evidence) and what I should expect. He also advised me on when I should arrive at court and how to dress. These things I already knew from my own career experience but I appreciated the care he took to make sure everything would go smoothly. On the morning of my court date I was sitting outside the courtroom when Mike showed up. He made eye contact but did not come over at that point. He was obviously busy communicating with the ASA and representing my case to the state. After thirty minutes or so he came out of the court room and came and stood next to me. I asked him "how are we doing" and that is when he told me the ASA was playing chicken when they had no evidence. He also told me that they were trying to charge me with a statute that did not apply to my case. He said was giving the ASA a chance to digest that fact on top of the lack of evidence as he had just informed him of it. We chatted about family and kids and then a few minutes later he said "I will be right back". He left, came back and casually said "you can leave if you want, I have to stay until the ASA informs the judge that the State is choosing Nolle Prosse". I said "that's it?" and he said yes, unless you want to stay and hear it for yourself. I thought about it and said "you know, after all the stress, I want to hear it." He just grinned and told me what would happen from there on. After the case was dismissed we walked out together and I thanked him sincerely for all his work and his obvious concern for my case. He said he was just sorry I had to go through all the stress in order to prove something we already knew to be true, my innocence. Not only is Mike Kessler and his staff a top notch law firm, every person I dealt with, from the receptionist to his associate attorneys to Mike himself conducted themselves in a very professional manner demonstrating both exceptional legal knowledge and compassion for my situation. Very helpful, and friendly staff. i contacted them immediately after my arrest. long story short, i was in a parking garage, waiting on my girlfriend, when someone called the police, they showed up, i refused to blow. i explained to them i was in the car waiting on my Girlfriend to drive us home,... but i had my Keys with me so i was charged with DUI. They got it Dropped to a normal reckless, with a fine. They also took care of everything, including the DMV stuff, getting my temp/depo/pretrial interview.

I was not convicted of any crime, the court did not suspend my license, and I will be able to have the whole court record sealed. Based on Florida DHSMV online records, this is a result that happened in less than 1% of DUI cases from last year in St. Lucie County. This result did not come easy, and I appreciate the hard work put in by everyone at the firm, including the legal assistant Tina. I cannot recommend this firm enough!

I was facing misdemeanor charges, disorderly conduct & resisting arrest without force. I had a public defender in the beginning and spent once a month in court for 7 months. Before I knew it I was scheduled for jury selection. All my previous attorney ever offered me where plead deals from the pro...secutor.
