Gregg represented me in a DWI case this year, my first and definitely my last. Getting charged with DWI is a traumatic experience to say the least but both Gregg and his paralegal Nellie knew their stuff and really helped me understand the whole process and made sure I was informed every step of the ...way. I was expecting it to be a quick process but it ended up being drawn out over 9 mos; and the only reason I didn't just plead guilty to get the whole thing over with was Gregg's advice. As a second offender with an "over the limit" test result and 5 tickets in hand my situation was bleak. The result was a plea agreement to reckless driving. Greg did an outstanding job of getting the absolute best possible result I could hope for in this case. Background: This would have been m...y second offense so the penalties are more than double a first offense. As a second offender, you lose any "benefit of the doubt" in the court system adding the case's difficulty. In addition, the judge in my case is known to be tough on DWI. Attorney Selection: I scoured the Internet for NJ DWI specialists. My searches produced many "hits" and I personally spoke with five different attorneys. At that time, Greg seemed knowledgeable, easy to talk to and responsive. I've used many attorneys in the past and this is not an easy combination to come by. The Charges: I was in traffic and drove somewhat aggressively to earn a police stop. I had been drinking but I thought I was under the limit. After performing the field sobriety tests I was brought in for a "Breathalyzer" test (actually, the "Acol-Test" is now used throughout NJ). I registered a 0.09 - just over the limit. The arresting officer hit me with 5 tickets: DWI, Speeding (on radar), Tailgating, Improper Passing, and Reckless Driving. Greg’s Approach: He reviewed my description and immediately requested discovery to ascertain the situation. It was grave, all the credentials for machine calibration and officer training were current. The other relevant information was accurate - there would be no acquittal on technicalities. However, the Alco-Test machine is relatively new in NJ and it does have some issues. Greg noticed an issue with my test results. He suggested, I pay for a specialist's review and report. There have been several recent rulings on the Alco-Test machines in NJ appeals courts due to the machine's newness. As my case came up for trial, a new ruling required prosecutors to provided a "data dump" from the machine itself. Greg had my trial date postponed, requested the additional data and had it reviewed by the specialist. The specialist found that the machine itself reported calibration failures both before and after my test. Greg diligently worked the system - the prosecutor, the State Police DWI Specialist and the arresting officer. The Result: Greg was able to convince the prosecutor that the test results should be thrown out. Without the machine as evidence the case is much weaker. I gladly accepted a plea bargain for one ticket - reckless driving, $300 fine. I'm realistic, this was as best as I could have possible hoped for. Thanks Greg

I hired Mr. Marootian to represent me in NJ DWI case. I have an out-of-state prior conviction, so I decided to hire the best lawyer I could find to represent me, because I had so much at stake and did not want to take any chances. So I did some shopping around and interviewed several law firms. They... all raised some red flags. Some refused to discuss how they would approach my defense ("you are not a lawyer, so you won't get it"), others went as far as promising a certain outcome for my case, yet another (supposedly top notch) DWI lawyer was not able to name a person who will go to court with me, so I figured I was offered a pig in a poke. I knew I could not wish for a better person to speak my case in front of the judge. I hired him on the spot. And I am glad I did. Greg has the qualities of a top lawyer: he is diligent, very attentive to detail, punctual, charismatic in person, and kept me informed at all times. He sent many detailed emails, and text messages (which I find very convenient) while sending hard copies of all documents by mail. He was always easy to reach by phone or text message. We agreed upfront on the fees, and I was not charged a penny above what we agreed upon. Greg successfully negotiated with the prosecutor that my 6 year old out-of-state conviction will not be counted as prior, in exchange for a guilty plea. (So much for "no plea bargain for DUI in NJ"...) At each step, he took time to explain to me the current situation, presented available options and gave his recommendations when asked to. There was no pressure at all -- I was the person making the decisions. I received sentencing at a state minimum, which was recommended by the prosecutor. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the outcome. My case did not go to trial, but it is my understanding that in many (majority?) DUI cases this *is* the preferred way to go. All things considered, I am very happy with Greggory's service. I highly recommend hiring him if you are accused of DWI in NJ.
