Disorganized and unscrupulous

This firm is a sham. I am 65 and I have hired many attorneys in my day, I was a business consultant. I have never run into more underhanded business practices. I clearly stated that I needed an attorney in San Diego. They scheduled the consultation, missed the consultation without notice, I had to ca...ll them they had me wait four more hours, then finally told me I would not be meeting with the San Diego lawyer, she was too busy to take my case. They said they would give me the Los Angeles attorney I told him I didn't want the Los Angeles attorney I could only work with them if I had to San Diego attorney and I had told him that from the beginning. They scheduled the consultation anyway, I texted them I told him I didn't want it. Instead of calling at 5:30 the attorney called at 5:08. Who does that? These attorneys work by the minute. I couldn't believe it was actually him who was calling so I picked up. We only spoke long enough for me to tell him I didn't want to work with him. THEY STILL CHARGED ME FOR THE CONSULTATION. I EMAILED KEN WITH ALL THE DETAILS AND HE STILL DID NOT REFUND MY $165 FOR A CONSULTATION THAT NEVER HAPPENED.

Unfortunately, some clients seek full refunds after receiving the information they sought, under threat of one of these AVVO reviews. This client hung up after 15 minutes of receiving the information she sought, and was refunded the unused balance. She filed a chargeback, but her bank recognized that she was not defrauded as she claimed. This was her next revenge, with an accompanying email that she would write more libelous claims. I have explained everything to her, including that a San Diego attorney could be hired if required, but that due to the common "remote appearance" system of most California courts, any attorney could help her with an in-person appearance.

Huge Disappointment

This firm, which I paid a substantial sum, was a horrific disappointment. I don’t know if this occurred because Carlsen lost his license, but in (3) visits, he have me zero sound advice, legal or otherwise. Carlsen suggested that to rectify my housing issue, I GO TO THE HOUSE of the community owner ...to discuss his employee’s discriminatory conduct. Next, he suggested I have someone threaten to break the owner’s legs, it wss a ludicrous waste of time and money.

You can tell by the other clients' comments that this case is a bizarre anomaly. I don't know who this client is. Occasionally, a client who is upset that our services are not free will make up a story like this in revenge. It may have been a landlord, not a client, who is trying to discourage tenants from using caltenantlaw.com because our client won a big case against him/her, and this is his/her revenge. I do recommend talking to the owner first before suing, especially when a manager is the real problem. I never advocate violence or threats of violence. Why would I do that, beyond its immorality and the criminal liability it might create, rather than have the client pay for my legal services? Based upon the description provided, this may have been one consultation. not three. If the advice was so bad, why would he/she come back again and again? I have a "Pre-consultation Video" section of caltenantlaw.com where I provide many hours of free legal information and advice to tenants. My "Finding Your Landlord" video advises in the last portion to keep the landlord encounter positive, assuming his/her best intentions, NOT hurting the landlord, but suing, picketing, and telling the City Council about the owner, if he/she is hostile. That video is in stark contrast to what this person claims that I told him/her. Thank you for taking the time to read my response, and for your open-mindedness in doing so.

“THE” Tenant Right’s Attorney

We are left in complete awe of Attorney Brittany Tolbert of California Tenant Law! We have never experienced a more fierce, supportive, and justice-seeking attorney! For months upon months, we experienced every type of mistreatment and unfairness from our landlord. We represented ourselves and fell o...n our faces at our pre-trial. The majority of attorneys usually opt-out of serving the underdog due to lack of profits, and those that do, often have predatory pricing models to exploit vulnerable tenants. Brittany actively chose to serve tenants, exclusively. This speaks volumes of her heart and passion to help those in need. Although Brittany was fully booked and we were less than 3 days from our hearing, she came through like a boss lady, superhero! Her actions are high impact to the nth degree because with just 1 call she was able to reach a very favorable settlement with our landlord. Brittany confidently and strategically fought to protect my single mom family, give us a sense of justice, and genuinely looked out for our best interests. We are incredibly grateful and can’t recommend Brittany enough to serve all of your tenant needs or personal injury needs.

The Attorney's Everyone Deserves: Responsive, Knowledgeable, and Truly in Your Corner

I had a complicated case going up against a big institution on my own, but quickly realized I could not do it alone. Brittany Torbert came recommended and she has not disappointed. Having worked with her over the past 12 months, I can say from experience she is responsive, kind, and caring, takes her... time to explain things, and gives great advice and support when things feel overwhelming. The filings she has put together have been thorough, detailed, and clearly show how much time and dedication she puts into her work. She does not cut corners. When emergencies popped up she always got back to me as soon as possible, and when emergency filings were needed she handled them incredibly well and quickly. She has helped me win many battles in what has been a long, hard war, and I truly do not know where I would be without her in my corner. I have also learned a lot from her along the way, which I truly appreciate. If you are facing something serious and need an attorney who will fight hard for you, treat you like a person, and is not only brilliant at what she does but genuinely cares about you and your case, she is exactly who you want. She is worth every penny. I would recommend her to any friend or family member facing something similar and I cannot recommend her enough!
