The Language of Business

Mr. Amir speaks the language of business. My wife and I had been the victim of discrimination and were prepared to go to war. We spent weeks gathering as much evidence as we can. We spent almost $4000 on a private investigator. Mr. Amir gave us a very sincere talk about the "darkness" of litigation ...and how there are never any "winners" or "losers." His consultations are free for the first thirty minutes. We spent two hours at his office with 3 of his staff present for most of the time. At the end we knew we owed him approximately $500. He made us a deal that proved his point. He asked that we pay him the $500 in a check form which he would keep in his firm's client trust account. If we didn't pursue the matter any further he would give us the 500 back. My husband has dealt with a lot of lawyers and was thrown off by Mr. Amir. He was convinced Mr. Amir owns the restaurant or has some interest in the restaurant. Just as I was beginning to feel a weight lifted off my shoulder my husband called Mr. Amir and began accusing Mr. Amir. Mr. Amir was cool as can be and responded "well I hope that was worth $500" and hung up. As it turned out he had nothing to do with the restaurant. We never received our $500 but I have a feeling if we had--my husband would still be pursuing the damn lawsuit! Mr. Amir really knew how to speak my husband's language without being rude or confrontational. What's funny is my husband hates him now for "taking" our 500 even though that was for the hours of consultation. I called Mr. Amir to apologize and asked how I can make up for my husband's rude behavior and he asked me to post this story befor emy husband puts up a story.

A Rare Mix of a Solid Person and Attorney

Mr. Dubai approaches his practice like a business so when I had to evict my tenants, he broke down the costs, benefits and how he would approach the situation. I came in for a free 30 minute consultation and we were done after 10 minutes. Instead of leaving abruptly he took the time to ask me some ...questions about my goals, finances and explored other possibilities before saying goodbye. He is very polite and capable.

A unique snowflake

When I met with Amir and his staff for my consultation, he was very easy going. No pressure to get me to sign anything. What I liked most about him was the positive energy that emanates from him. He is funny, hip, knowledgeable and VERY smart. And when I say VERY smart, he memorized all the importa...nt events in my 30 page file and 17 page complaint within 30 minutes. He knew the case inside and out. I also found his honesty very refreshing: he lays out the pros and cons in a very clear and well thought out manner. Do yourself a favor and get on this client's list because I have a feeling another firm or company is going to make him an offer he can't refuse. He was literally twice the attorney my old attorney ever was--and my old attorney was a "Super Attorney," whatever that means. When I asked Amir how come he isn't one of those "Super Attorneys" he said that a lot of other attorneys are jealous of him. He's young and has his own firm. More importantly, he's litigating with the biggest boys in Los Angeles.

You definitely won't feel like he's trying to pull a quick one on you

I found Amir on avvo because he seemed to know a lot about landlord/tenant law and also focused on practical ways of solving problems, not just using the legal system for every little thing that comes up. My landlord was giving me hell so I would move out and he could raise rent. I went ahead and... moved because I couldn't stand him and I didn't want an unlawful detainer on my hands. So I was already a bit peeved because of that. Then a month or more after I moved out, the landlord was still denying me my deposit (which was around 4,500). I took Amir up on his free consultation and visited his office which had a beautiful view from downtown LA to the Santa Monica beach. It was also the day that Obama was in town so Wilshire was slammed! My intention was to file a wrongful foreclosure and sue him for penalties for not returning my deposit. Amir told me that is a waste of time and resources. He also said something that stuck with me: "this sounds personal, and personal isn't good for business." I agreed and asked him where he learned that quote... he laughed and said Fast and Furious 5. No question the guy is the most entertaining lawyer you'll ever meet. He also broke down the costs and benefits of pursuing several courses of action and came up with three different things we were going to try. First he was going to write a legal letter demanding the money back. Second, we were going to file a limited jurisdiction claim so landlord would have to pay for a lawyer; and the third was something about enforcing arbitration. Amir wrote about 4 letters and the landlord got an attorney. I got my entire deposit back and Amir charged me $250.00. He must have spent 6 hours between listening to me whine, review the documents, doing research on the landlord, writing letters, negotiating, etc... I was impressed because he knew every single fact I'd shared with him without even taking notes. Sure, what I was having him to didn't require a ton of talent as a lawyer but I could just tell Amir is a very talented lawyer. When I gave him the check, he said "I hope you never need a lawyer again, but if you do I hope it's me" and he also asked me to write this review. Though this review took me a long time to write, Amir spent a long time making sure things went well for me. It's the least I could do for him. I would definitely recommend Amir as I don't think you can get a better lawyer for your buck. He was also hilarious and it showed. After my final visit to the office, he was going out for lunch with 3 models to be part of some skit they were filing. And yes, the models were also his clients but the skit was just for fun--not work related.

A Rare Breed

I first met Amir through my daughter. She is a model and uses Amir to review her contracts and other small matters. I had a very minor (but very annoying) issue come up with the City of Van Nuys who wanted to bill me $860.00 for a nuisance my rental property was causing by having overgrown bushes. Th...e funny part is the city had the wrong address and those bushes were cleaned immediately after I received the notice. Months go by and I receive this ridiculous bill that threatens to ruin my credit. I called a few lawyers who specialize in dealing with city administrators and resolving "nuisance abatement," but they wanted to bill me $1,500.00 just for a retainer (not even a promise to help). I called Amir and he invited me in for a free consultation. As it turned out, he had done the exact type of case in front of the exact same body in Van Nuys. He made an incredible presentation at the hearing and the matter was over. My bill: $400.00 if he won, $200.00 if he lost. I was very excited to have the matter behind me and as we walked to the parking lot together, Amir said with a huge grin on his face: "That's the second time I've kicked that city attorney's teeth in." He's a real smart guy that does real good work. I was very happy and impressed with his focus on good work and satisfying his clients.

"I met Mr. Dibaei at an event in LA and he was effortlessly the center of attention. When I told him this he replied "I'm usually the smartest guy in the room but if I'm not, I'm the one you'll remember anyways," he said in a completely joking and somewhat self-deprecating manner. About 4 months later we needed a business litigation attorney in LA. I suggested him to our managing partner and we retained Mr. Dibaei as our local LA counsel. Shortly thereafter we switched managing partners and the new partner wanted Mr. Dibaei replaced because she felt he was too inexperienced. To be completely honest I agreed that he may be too inexperienced. When we informed our client that we would be retaining new local counsel--she vehemently refused and echoed my sentiment about his genuineness. Both the partner and I had a chance to work with Mr. Dibaei during the project and immediately realized what a huge mistake we almost made. When it comes to litigators Mr Dibaei is the complete package"

"Our firm worked alongside Mr. Dibaei. Mr. Dibaei's client is a startup that is raising capital secured by the company's assets. Our firm represents lenders (banks and hard-money). Our project required we collaborate with Mr. Dibaei to draft lending agreements mutually acceptable to all parties. Based on the adversarial nature of such a set up, there is almost always some level of contention between the attorneys. To the contrary, Mr. Dibaei had done his homework. He had taken the time to acquire previous agreements we had drafted and made changes to address his client's needs as a borrower. Mr. Dibaei possesses a tremendous and comforting presence that made the project go by very smoothly. Our managing partner wanted to create more billable hours so he took issue but Mr. Dibaei masterfully pacified the partner's ego without the project skipping a beat. Perhaps most impressive was his commitment to his client: he had drafted a masterfully tailored operating agreement."
