Biography
Jason Kohlmeyer is a Minnesota family law attorney and the founding partner of Kohlmeyer Hagen, Law Office Chtd., with offices in Mankato and Rochester. He has practiced law since 2000 and now devotes his practice entirely to family law.
Jason grew up on the prairie of western Minnesota. While still in high school he enlisted in the Army, serving in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve as an intelligence analyst. He earned his degree in education and political science from Concordia College in Moorhead and taught high school social studies in White Bear Lake for two years before going to law school. He graduated from Hamline University School of Law (now Mitchell Hamline) in 2000, after working as a certified student attorney at the Dakota County Attorney's Office.
He spent eight years at Manahan, Bluth & Kohlmeyer, a southern Minnesota trial firm, before founding his own firm in 2008, now Kohlmeyer Hagen. His practice covers divorce, child custody and parenting time and spousal maintenance, with a focus on cases involving farms, businesses and complex assets.
Jason has been selected to Super Lawyers every year since 2014, after being named a Rising Star from 2003 to 2012, and to The Best Lawyers in America since 2017. He is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and was named to The National Trial Lawyers Matrimonial and Family Top 30 in 2026. He taught at Minnesota CLE's Family Law Institute from 2003 to 2017 and again in 2020, and wrote the attorney's fees chapter of Minnesota CLE's divorce deskbook. He is an international speaker who has presented for the American Bar Association and the American Association for Justice in Toronto.
He hosts the podcast Minnesota Family Law & Divorce Questions and writes about Minnesota family law on his Blog Jason lives in Mankato with his wife and children.

Excellent Attorney
