Questionable Ethics

After hiring somewhat reluctant Mr. Kramer to represent my mother (who had recently suffered a stroke) in a pretty standard foreclosure case, I was under the impression that at least all the basic filings and motions with the court would be handled, and they were. Motions and answers were filed in a... timely manner. However, the issues began to emerge when it came time for mediation. The creditor requested certain financial information from my mother in preparation for the mediation, which by the way is optional to attend. Nonetheless, we (my mother assisted by her sons) planned to attend for a workout. Given my mother's health and condition, however, gathering all the information proved to be a difficult and time consuming task. Then strangely seemingly out of nowhere Mr. Kramer demanded that was get the creditor's paperwork to him for work-out by a certain date and time (end of business on Wednesday) or else he would quit the case. What??? In any case, I sent the completed documents to him on that Wednesday on behalf of my mother. No further correspondence. That's when I was surprised to find a couple of months later that Mr. Kramer had withdrawn himself from my mother's case. I contacted his legal assistant to verify, and she confirmed. I asked what happened, and she mentioned the documents. However, I confirmed the documents had been sent. There was no response. No admission of error. Just dropped the case...just like that. Perhaps he was too busy with other non-generic cases, perhaps there were other reasons. However, this kind of attorney behavior towards clients relying on legal representation at a critical time borders on unethical. It certainly isn't moral, if he even cares what that it. At the very least, you might expect an apology and a perhaps an offer to re-represent as counsel. Not even that.
