A serious word of warning

I hired Mr Cave in 2001 for a single dirty urine in 20 years of service, obviously a mistake of some kind and that turned into what ended up in a Courts Martial in Europe and paid him thousands and thousands of dollars. He visited twice and one of those times was for the case that went to trial. He d...id virtually nothing but I kept him on. He showed up for trial totally unprepared and seemed to be preoccupied. The Judge admonished him the first day for his unpreparedness and paused proceedings until he gathered more pertinent information. The rest of the trial was humiliating in that his arguments were inane, once trying to equate the case to the ENRON trials, and his theatrics in court were humiliating, once having me stand at attention until the Judge pleaded to him to let me sit again. He didn't object once to anything from the prosecution. I should have sued him for negligence and was told to do so by lawyers handling my appeals. I'm surprised he's still practicing. If you need representation I suggest going elsewhere or take him at your own risk.

Victorious warrior against the war on warriors

Phil represented me in a BOI that concluded on 09 May 2025. The results were 3-0 no misconduct and 3-0 retain. Full vindication. I am now awaiting a promotion that has been held for three years and will hire Phil again, if required, to secure that promotion and back pay. Phil never kept me wai...ting on answers to my questions. He is brilliant in both preparation and performance. You cannot beat his remarkable experience, knowledge, and results. I have no complaints and would highly recommend him to represent you. In a military pervaded with confirmation bias, we need more Phil Cave's to help fight the war on warriors. Hire Phil now, and work with him to obtain your victory.

Cannot Ask for a Better and More Experienced Attorney

Mr. Cave helped me with an IG complaint, which could have impacted my active duty career. He provided legal advice and assisted me with the interview questions. Mr. Cave was extremely patient (we worked on the questions for hours), flexible, responsive, meticulous and thorough. The outcome of the inv...estigation was positive (not substantiated). I am thankful for his service.

Best military defense lawyer in the National Capital Region

Last year, I came under suspicion of a couple of changes that would end my career and end any of my chances of getting hired as a civil servant. That was something I never thought was going to happen during my military career. I was devastated and didn't know what to do; that's when I reach out to ...Mr. Cave. He was one of the best-recommended defense lawyers in the National Captial Region. Mr. Philip Cave had helped me get through with the investigation and complete drop of suspicion and charges. I can tell you that he possesses extensive experience on any charges involving security clearance, and he will always give you frank assessments based on his experience. In addition, he also worked with Mr. Nathen Greenburg, who has experience with Army litigations. His team continuously updated me on my expectations and provided sound legal advice on the subject matter. Thus, I was able to protect myself throughout the process. Mr. Cave and Mr. Nathen Greenburg reassured me that I always had a team of experts support me. If you are under suspicion or charged for any security-related matter, you must call Mr. Cave. Mr. Cave and his team will do their best to get you through your difficult time.

He saved my honor during an Aritcle 120

As a military male, we know that Article 120's are not infallible. That often in the military they are persuaded by political influence and sometimes are made up. I found myself in a similar situation. Phillip came in on the attack and immediately started attacking the prosecution's handling of th...e investigation, and applied for the proper appeals. I went to court and was given a not guilty verdict. I would like to say truth persevered. However, unfortunately, we live in a world where the truth is subjective, especially in the military. Even with the truth on your side, you will need a lawyer like Phillip to attack your case and give you the justice you deserve.

"Phil is quite simply the dean of military justice practice. He has seen every iteration of the system and seen how it has changed to the detriment of the service member. He knows the case law better than any judge, knows how to practice at trial and knows how to win on appeal. He’s where I go when I can’t find the answer anywhere."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
