I am a former active duty military JAG attorney. I spent the majority of my active duty JAG career as a military defense counsel. When I was a JAG, I served first as a base level military prosecutor, and then was selected to serve as a base level military defense counsel and then as a regional military defense counsel.
I have been handling military cases, on and off active duty, continuously since 1995. As a civilian court-martial defense attorney and military defense lawyer, I exclusively handle military cases because I care so deeply about representing and defending those who serve in the military and defend all of us. I handle all types of military cases involving disciplinary and adverse actions, including court-martial defense, defense against administrative boards such as administrative discharge/separation boards, FEBs, MEB/PEBs, Discharge Review Board, Board of Corrections for Military Records, etc. I represent military clients facing military discipline, adverse administrative actions, appeals and investigations. I offer free initial case consultations.

I hired Attorney Richard V. Stevens because he was straight with me during the consultation about our chances of success (not great) and how knowledgeable he was of my situation. I appreciated him giving it to me straight and not over promising like the other lawyers I interviewed. However, this did...

Richard was a fantastic resource. I had a complex situation that was years old and required someone who had great organizational skills and tenacity to help guide me. I have no legal background and so did not know how to properly negotiate the process. Had Richard not been there, I am not confident t...

TL; DR: Thanks to the experience, guidance, and work product of Mr. Stevens, my leadership concluded it should drop the unfair disciplinary action pending against me, and fully cleared my record of any allegation of wrongdoing. Details: I am a field grade military officer who was falsely accu...

Simply outstanding legal help from beginning to the very successful end! Rich was an amazing counsel for the separation board, and five years later, for the grade determination board. His skill and insight ensured a brief, tight, and laser-focused written package for both boards - and amazing in-per...

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude and profound appreciation for Mr.Stevens and his exceptional work. To say that Mr.Stevens is “thorough”simply doesn’t capture the meticulousness and dedication he brings to a case. He is a true artisan of law, weaving his years of experience into a tapestr...
"I endorse this lawyer without reservation. He is absolutely at the top-tier of his profession. I have known Mr. Stevens for over 15 years, and he has clearly established himself as head and shoulders above his peers. His knowledge, skill, and care for his clients shine through in everything he does. If I were a military member in trouble, he would receive my first phone call."
"During the summer of 2013, I worked opposite of Mr. Stevens on a hotly contested Sexual Assault Court-Martial. Throughout the entire process, Mr. Stevens was extremely professional and diligently represented his client in a case that involved 5+ expert witnesses and multiple pieces of physical and forensic evidence. At the conclusion of the trial, he secured a full acquittal for his client. I endorse this lawyer."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Rich Stevens for over twenty years and have collaborated with him on several matters during that time. He deeply cares about zealously representing his clients, the law and the process. If it was my family member seeking criminal advice or representation, I would not hesitate to trust Mr. Stevens with their care."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Mr. Stevens for nearly twenty years. He practiced before me when I was a military judge and I practiced with him upon my retirement. In over thirty years of military justice practice, I have never encountered an advocate with his skill, drive, and concern for those he represents."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Richard Stevens for many years, and have always been impressed with the energy and diligence that he brings to every case. He possesses that rare mix in an attorney: he is incredibly talented and he cares deeply about his clients. If I were in a jam, he would be my first call."
"I endorse this lawyer. Rich Stevens is one of the most talented attorneys I have known in my twenty-three years of practice. He is an outstanding trial attorney with a superior intellect as well as work ethic. I have worked with and against a large number of criminal defense attorneys and Rich Stevens is who I would recommend to anyone seeking criminal advice or representation."
"Mr. Stevens is a relentless advocate for his client. Mr. Stevens’ obligation to his client in the role of advocate is a model for any attorney who strives to provide zealous advocacy. I not only admire the tremendous amount of courtroom victories he has accumulated but the tireless passion that accompanies his representation."
"I worked with Rich while I was a military defense counsel, before leaving the military and becoming a civilian defense attorney. He is absolutely phenomenal. From his research and preparation to his knowledge of defense and the military to his actual presence in the courtroom; he is outstanding. He is an easy pick for any military case. His reputation is warranted in every capacity. If I needed a military attorney, Rich is the one I would call."
