Great experience and highly recommended!

Mathew Kolken was recommended by another law firm after examining my complicated case of removal from the US and I'm glad with the outcome and of course with my decision of going with them. From the very first conversation with Mathew Kolken I could judge him to be very knowledgeable, straight-forwar...d, honest and thorough with all complexities and technicalities of US immigration. He showed immense confidence with a positive outcome of my case where a few other lawyers were hesitant in taking up or even understanding my tricky situation at the border. He is also supported by a very knowledgeable and professional staff which were a pleasure dealing with. I do not have much experience in dealing with lawyers but I would definitely recommend this law firm as very highly rated and respected in the field of US immigration. We have successfully lifted the 5 Year ban on my entry to the US as a Canadian citizen and if guided well, I look forward to working with him for future US immigration matters as well. We as human beings, inadvertently land up in situations unintentionally due to sheer ignorance or lack of awareness, and to my belief such critical incidents of life should be handled by professionals, who are knowledgeable, confident and know what they are doing - and you will get that feeling with Kolken & Kolken.

Efficient and Capable

Matthew is experienced, competent and a connoisseur in his field. I was facing removal proceedings along with my two sons and was told by other lawyers that there is no hope in this case. I sought Mr. Matthew's services and we won the case because of his expertise. I would recommend that anyone who... is facing deportation should seek help from Mr. Matthew Kolken.

Married 28 years. Mr. Kolken saved our family unity.

Mr. Kolken Is honest, up front, and does what he says he will do. My wife of 28 years was facing deportation for having multiple convictions of moral turpitude. She took responsibility for her actions and has since turned her life around. Mr. Kolken and his team researched the facts and guided us th...rough the proceedings. I honestly believe It was his knowledge that won the case for us. Our family will be forever in his debt.

Good people, good strategy, got me out of trouble where others failed.

Mr Kolken and his staff helped me get back in the US after a two year battle where hi profile attorneys in Toronto have failed. I am a Canadian with overstay and deportation in my record. I wish I would have known about Kolken & Kolken long time ago, it would have saved me money and precious time a...way form my family. Matthew Kolken took my case where others told me that I have no chances. They seem to specialize in complicated cases of deportation, parole, denial of entry and this kind of matters. While the fight is not over yet, I am in the US now and finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I was impressed with the level of integrity and responsibility I encountered there. I was imagining that only a miracle can take me out of the trouble I was in, and was afraid that saying the truth about my overstay will get me in more trouble. Honesty and repentance actually got me out of trouble but I would have never made this choice if it wasn't for Mr Matthew Kolken's professional advise. A true American Patriot who not only helped me with my case but also set a good moral example for me to follow. Thank you Sir!

The quickest, easiest and most professional permanent residence appeal I have ever been through.

Last year in June my family and I where told by our previous attorney that we have an interview scheduled in the US Montreal/Canada embassy. We were told that this interview was simply a formality and that once we go through the interview we would be approved for permanent resident status in the US.... This was obviously very important to us considering we where already living in the US. The interview went fine and the officer informed us that the interview is over at which point he told my wife and kids they can leave and that I need to stay and wait for the paperwork. I stood there for about a minute and when the officer came back he said that he was trying to change our status and the system wouldn’t let him because of an infraction I had while crossing the boarded more then 4 years before the interview (I had a incident where I left Canada with more then the allowed $10,000 in cash and did not declare it. Obviously it was a foolish oversight on my behalf but by no mean was it intentional.) This was what stopped the interviewing agent from changing my statues from L1A to permanent resident. I left the embassy with nothing other then an apology for dragging my whole family and me all the way to Montreal. When I left I called my attorney and she did her best to try to figure out how to deal with this. After about 2 months of attempting to find a way to handle my case she told me that it would be best if I contact her friend and attorney Matthew Lindsay Kolken (who specializes in difficult cases). As you can tell I am a super obsessive-compulsive type A so talking to attorneys can become very difficult. During our first conversation Matthew explained the process to me and reassured me that he will do his best. Unlike most lawyers he did not make outlandish promises he simply stated the facts and gave me his suggestion as to what he thinks I should do. I obviously took his advice and with the help of his assistant (who did most of the work on my behalf) proceeded to fill out a new application. The application was submitted on May 16th 2013 as an internal application from the state I am living in. After that my family and I went to a biometrics appointment in July and waited for an interview date to arrive by mail. The interview letter never came… instead on August 29th I got a very pleasant phone call from Matthew and his assistant letting me know that USCIS granted us permanent residence status and gave me and my whole family green cards WITHOUT AN INTERVIEW (needles to say this never ever happens). To simply say that we are happy would be the understatement of the year!!! Matthew is an educated, knowledgeable diligent and honest attorney and I would recommend him to everyone. One more thing I forgot to mention is that I paid him in full when I retained him (he did not ask for it, I offered – I wanted him to rush the case) usually that doesn’t end well and the party performing the service always asks for more money, but not in this case. In fact they did the job and did not ask for one extra dollar!

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
