My circumstance was a little unusual, but Matthew was quick to find multiple solutions to my case. My parents abandoned my greencard on my behalf when I was under 21 years old and the whole family moved away from the states. I moved to Canada to pursue a PhD, but intended on returning to the US upon the completion of my degree. In the interim, I was travelling to the US 4 - 5 times a year for conferences, workshops and leisure. In entering the US following the greencard abandonment, I was informed by a border official that I had the right to retain my greencard if I intended to return to the US. Since I had not given up my greencard willingly, the border official started a petition to reinstate the greencard on my behalf. In order to reinstate the greencard, the border official explained I would have to be seen before a judge and win a "Removal Proceedings" application. Matthew helped me understand what steps needed to be taken in order to reinstate my greencard in trial. Matthew also highlighted potential risks of this application being denied (e.g. deportation and inadmissibility of 5 years). Together, we deliberated what would be the best outcome for my case. I decided I did not want to risk deportation, and was happy to enter the US as a visitor. Matthew successfully helped me withdraw my application for the reinstatement of the greencard without facing deportation, and thus ensured that I can visit the US as a visitor.

Very happy with the outcome of a recent stressful encounter with CBP/DHS during the renewal of a NEXUS (trusted traveller identification for Canadians/Americans) card. I created a company somewhat casually with a partner in the US not realizing that CBP would have concerns that we would work in ...the US on behalf of the US corporation without a US visa. After the initial interview with CBP for the renewal of the NEXUS card, there were a few intense series of questions and supporting documents they requested with moving goalposts of what they wanted so we retained Matthew Kolken. Me and my brother entered the US through the visa weaver program ESTA. We are both Irish citizens. I had a medical issue and we needed to prolong our stay. We had no idea how to get an extension on ESTA because the rules are set and you simply can't get an extension. You must go back to where you ca...me from and reapply for a visa.
