Troy Austin Pickard

I was recommended Troy Pickard by another lawyer and after receiving my email outlining the case, I was instructed to go ahead and pay $350 and then upload files pertinent to the case. My case had alot of components and I assumed since I was instructed to upload files for my case - the files would be... reviewed and Mr Pickard would be prepared and direct me through the one hour consultation. He was clearly not prepared. Not sure if he had other things on his mind, too many other cases or what, but CLEARLY not prepared. While I was waiting for him to direct questioning on the details of my case - he was waiting to hear my 'story'! Halfway through it was clear he had no clue to the real insight to my case and was focused on an aspect that I felt wasnt even the important issue - make sure you understand with Troy Pickard - which was not my experience with other lawyers with a paid one hour consultation - the two other lawyers I consulted with knew my case details when the call started so we could work out possible angles - with Troy Pickard, he will review your case in the one hour consultation. Had I known, I would've passed on the consultation - what a waste of money

Our floating home community had high hopes with Mr. Pickard defending our rights to a safe and habitable moorage following the $350 consultation we paid him. (BTW many attorneys don't charge for the consultation) Mr. Pickard stated he would follow-up, agreed we had a case and would review the documen...ts that we provided him, then ghosted us. He never returned a single email or phone call after numerous attempts. A simple communication is all that was needed if he didn't want to pick up our cause or was too busy. Instead, I feel like he took our money and left us high and dry with no explanation. I feel like we flushed $350 down the drain and wasted over a month moving forward on urgent landlord issues. Nothing about this interaction felt like Troy is a man with integrity, so disappointing. He may have some positive reviews (that's why we reached out to him) and I also see a repeating theme about his inability to communicate and follow through with what he says he will do, which are both pretty key in hiring an attorney in my opinion. He also appears to be more responsive to his Google reviews than to his clients or potential clients. Mr. Pickard is a gamble, he will take your money and you may never hear from him again. I'd use caution with this one! He let a whole community of us down.

Due to the reviews on this site, I had very high hopes when I contacted Mr. Pickard's office regarding an issue with my landlord. His clerk, Kashia, responded and asked for additional information to review with the lawyer, which I promptly sent. After about a week with no response, I followed up ...and Kashia replied that Mr. Pickard thought I had a good case, that we should send a demand letter which would cost $400, and asked when I could send the payment. I asked her what we would be demanding in the letter and expressed that I was not comfortable agreeing to this without any information beforehand. She responded by stating 'We can't discuss this with you until you pay the $400 fee.' The whole situation felt just as sleazy as the landlord I'm dealing with, so I chose not to hire this attorney. I later spoke to a different attorney who advised me to address the issue in small claims court.

I was referred to Troy through CAT following my landlord's refusal to renew my yearly lease, and instead forcing a month-to-month contract so that she could get someone new in to my rental, simply because I was not receptive to her unsolicited advice regarding her world view and spirituality, and how... she felt I should be living my life. Essentially, she was attempting to force me out because I hurt her feelings by desiring a professional landlord-tenant relationship, rather than acquiescing to her need for rigid micromanagement of me. I have had a number of very bad experiences with attorneys, and was reluctant to contact him, but after my landlord refused mediation through Resolution NW and CAT, I felt that I had no choice. He listened to me, understood me, and validated me, without me having to explain the social justice issues behind my perspective and experiences. He "got it", which I really appreciated, especially since an aspect of the issue was around my landlord's sexist treatment of me following sexual harassment from our neighbors. Troy worked with me to write a strongly-worded letter that was focused on what legal options I had at my disposal to respond to her, including potential financial outcome in my favor, and within hours of her receiving his letter, she was asking me to renew another one year lease. My landlordess seemed to find the letter so intimidating, that she was willing to hear me out regarding some other lingering maintenance issues, without threatening me or shutting me down, which is her way. The next time I find myself in the need of an attorney, I will go directly to Troy Pickard. Thank you, Troy. I really appreciate you getting me out of this unnecessary housing crisis.
