I've never written an Avvo review... This will be my first. I was arrested for a DUI In early 2015 and I was involved in an accident which fortunately included only myself. Given the accident I knew I would need the best attorney I could find. After asking friends and searching various sites for revi...ews I narrowed it down to 3 attorneys. Nan was the first attorney I contacted, and she made time to meet with me in between court appointments at the Palo Alto courthouse. When we arrived, the the Deputy Sherriff at the metal detector asked who I was there to see, and I mentioned I was there to interview an attorney to possibly represent me. When I gave him Nan's name, he became very friendly and said you will not find a better attorney and that she was extremely well respected there. Another Sherrif jumped in and said I would lucky to have her. That was surprising. She came out when I texted her, and in 5 minutes of questions guessed what my blood alcohol was going to be within a surprisingly accurate range, assessed my accident and injuries, and then wrote out a detailed sequence of events that she was going to help me achieve including keeping me with a license to drive back and forth to work with no down time. Her assessment was so impressive. With that and the Sherrif Deputies having already given me unexpected references, I hired her on the spot and wrote her a check... Best money I ever spent. My suspicion that she was going to be a masterful navigator and negotiator and was severely underestimated. Everything she laid out happened. I was completely honest with her up front so I had no surprises. My case is still ongoing as my injuries have prevented me from completing my community service, and Nan remains diligent after so much time. I honestly believe I would have been screwed had I not hired her. She took all he stress out of an unbelievably stressful time in my life. I will never forget it, and I cannot put into words how strongly I recommend her!

My husband made a stupid mistake and was facing a felony drug charge. Nan was straight up with us from the beginning and I was confident, upon our first meeting, that we had made the right decision in hiring her. I hired Ms. Bucknell a couple of months back on a Domestic Violence case after interviewing more than 6-7 attorneys, not only in San Jose, but all over the Bay. While her fees were slightly on the higher side, if I had to take this decision again, I would choose Ms. Bucknell. Not only did she give me... a complete picture of my case and possible outcomes from day one, but she also provided me with comfort and constant responses so that I didn't feel alone in this fight for even a second. She responded to my questions patiently and at most times, within 5 mins on text or email. And having worked with another Attorney, who wouldn't even reply to most of my emails, save give me his phone number, this was a refreshing change. Ms. Bucknell would give definitive answers even while texting back. The fact that I am from an Asian country and here on an H1B (and at a significant disadvantage compared to citizens) did not deter her from getting the best possible outcome on my case. Last week, during the pre-trial hearing my case was dismissed by the DA in the "interest of justice". Ms. Bucknell is hard as a nail attorney and has a great personal rapport with the DA in San Jose. And the more information you provide and the more forthright you are with her, the better outcome she will get in your case. All the best!

Regarding the gentleman who gave 1 star rating, I feel this is just a communication gap or misunderstanding my friend. Nan is very compassionate and brilliant attorney. I would definitely recommend her to you sir or my family/friends.I am aware that she gets many calls every day for advice and she ha...s to refer some to public defender.Due to time constraints she might have asked question related to payment at the beginning.She is very brilliant,committed,hardworking,caring & friendly attorney. I will thank Nan rest of my life for her help in my case. Nan went well above & beyond what I expected to score me the best possible resolution I could have received for my situation (a probable DUI turned to Wet Reckless) - and in the arduous 4 months leading to the final say, her commitment, prowess & drive proved second to none. From the very start, h...er meticulousness and experience came through clearly in her game-plan; using key details (from the situation) and educated predictions of what opposing counsel will push for - and if a detail would be missing (like BAC), she’d constantly inquire to get it (calling DMV several times a week for months). As the case unfolded and situation became complex, she’d quickly adapt and push for the best outcome, while adding series of fallbacks to cover all other cases. Often when I was ready to throw in the towel and settle for the presented fate, Nan would encourage me to strive for the ideal outcome. Her know-hows of the DMV and DA’s office was vital to the case, often used it to shield me from the ensuing trial. Nan's friendly, funny, caring, energetic, and I always left her office with a smile. She gladly (when asked) give me advice on how to deal with the personal side of the circumstance.
