I was born in Port Arthur, Texas and raised in the Golden Triangle of Texas. I completed my B.S. degree from Auburn University after only 2 1/2 years of study. I began working as a police officer at 21 years old. I was a college professor with two masters degrees at age 26. By age 30, I was finishing law school. I have since completed a third masters degree and defended over 2000 people who have been accused of crimes. My experience as a defense lawyer includes over 100 jury trials.
Outside of my law practice, I am actively involved in fitness. I have practiced Gracie Jiu Jitsu for 13 years. I am very competitive and I fight for my clients in court the way I fight on the jiu jitsu mat. I use my knowledge, creativity, and experience to get the best results for my clients.

DWI
Did not fight for me on a first offense. First time being in any trouble. Very passive and shows up late. Reset, reset, reset, hey they're offering a deal type of guy.
"I first met Jim at a DWI seminar when after I had just became a licensed attorney. I learned a lot from Jim and I have watched him fight hard for his clients. I would recommend Jim to anyone who needs a criminal defense attorney."
"Jim is an excellent lawyer. He tells it like it is and has had great success because of his knowledge, background and experience. He is also a great teacher, and is frequently asked to speak at legal seminars. I have worked with him on a few cases and his preparation is impeccable. I think he is one of the best lawyers in Houston and I highly endorse him."
"Jim Medley has unique experience as a former police officer that makes him a valuable resource to anyone charged with DWI/DUI. Jim is a great lawyer and can fight for you if you're accused of a crime."
"Through consistent hard work Jim Medley has established himself as one of the preeminent DWI lawyers in Houston. He is tough, thoughtful and determined in his approach. Jim has earned the respect of the entire legal community and the gratitude of the many clients he has saved. On top of that he is a good man."
"I worked with Jim for a short time back in our law enforcement days. I knew as soon as I met him that he was destined for much bigger things in life. He's just a super smart guy, pure and simple. He has a great reputation as a DWI lawyer and I've referred numerous people to him over years for Harris County cases. If I was facing a DWI in Harris County, Jim is the one I'd call straight away."
"We were opposing counsel when I was at the DA's office and then later worked on a couple of matters with him as co-counsel. He is a consummate professional. I endorse him without reservation."
"Jim is an excellent attorney. He always fights to get the best result for his clients. I highly endorse this lawyer."
"I endorse this lawyer. Jim is a top gun attorney in the area of DWI/DUI. He is extremely knowledgeable on issues involving standardized field sobriety tests (he is an instructor), he has a masters degree in forensic toxicology and understands the scientific basis of chemical testing. Jim is also a very talented trial attorney and I have every confidence in his knowledge and talents to handle any alcohol or drug related case. The combination of his training, knowledge and trial skills makes him a super lawyer and advocate. I trust in his abilities. If I had a DWI in Texas I would call him to represent me or any member of my family."
"Mr. Medley provides insightful, helpful and accurate advice. His knowledge and experience are clearly evident. I endorse this lawyer."
"I endorse Attorney Medley. From his answers and time on Avvo, it is clear he is dedicated to serving those in need and his clients. It's rare that lawyers spend so much valuable time helping the community, for free, and I applaud him for doing it to such a great level. Kudos."
"I endorse this lawyer. Attorney Medley is one of the finest criminal defense attorneys in his state. He is a strong and zealous advocate for his clients and a credit to the legal profession. I highly recommend his legal services."
"Jim has a unique background, education, and training that can't be matched by very many attorneys. He is a former police officer and holds advanced degrees in law and forensic science both. Being a DWI defense attorney requires that you be much more than an attorney. You must be a trial attorney. You must me a scientist. You must be willing to take on the government at all costs. Jim is that attorney. I have attended seminars alongside Jim as well as sat in the audience while he was teaching other lawyers how to be better DWI attorneys. I have also worked on cases with Jim and I can tell you that you are in good hands with Jim handling your DWI or alcohol related charge. I trust his abilities, so should you."
"I have known Jim Medley for ten years and was immediately impressed by his desire to be the best trial lawyer he could be. Jim and I are former police officers and I could tell right away that Jim has what it takes as a DWI trial lawyer. Jim knows when the testifying officer is trying to pull a fast one. Jim knows the DWI area better than the arresting officers as he is an expert in the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. I make sure to attend any sessions when Jim is presenting at the top DWI seminars. I have always come away from Jim's talks a better trial lawyer for watching him in action. Jim and I have referred cases to each other over the years because I know I can trust Jim to do the best job possible for his clients. Jim Medley is one of my "go to guys" when it comes to a Houston area DWI. Jim has elevated himself to the top of the list when it comes to understanding the science of DWI. Jim Medley has the DWI Dude's endorsement and I do not give it lightly. - Jamie Balagia"
