Richard Hornsby is a third generation Central Floridian and a second-generation criminal defense lawyer. Richard obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Master of Science in Forensic Science, and Juris Doctor from the University of Florida. He also holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida.
Richard is Board Certified in Criminal Trial Law by the Florida Bar and Board Certified in Criminal Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
Richard serves as the Legal Analyst for the Central Florida NBC affiliate, WESH 2 News, and is frequently called upon to provide legal commentary for the Orlando Sentinel.
In 2007 he was voted Best of the Bar in Criminal Defense by the Orlando Business Journal. In 2016 he was recognized as a Legal Elite by Orlando Style Magazine. In 2021 he was recognized as a Legal Elite by Florida Trend Magazine. And he has been recognized in Super Lawyers Magazine every year from 2012 through 2022.

Definitely would hire again
Hornsby handled my sons case last summer. He was great about talking us through the process and kept us well informed. It was a hard time for my family and he helped us through it. He was very professional and efficient. I was very satisfied with the outcome of the case.

Replied last September 10, 2013When I returned Mr. Ojeda's call and introduced myself, he continually acted like he was preoccupied. When I started asking him basic questions about his brother's situation, he could not answer one question and basically implied it was all a conspiracy and an "easy" case. He then asked me if I handled Attempted Murder cases, to which I asked if he even knew which attorney he was talking to. His response was I called a bunch of attorneys. Once we began discussing pricing it became clear he was looking for a bargain basement attorney, so after the third time of him asking my name, I politely informed him that I was not interested and was going to hang up. When he asked why? I informed him that it was clear he was not looking for a good attorney, just a cheap one.
