GySgt of Marines, 20 years of service and about to retire

Attorney Barry is a hard professional who treats his client with dignity, respect, and compassion. He was locked in from the start and continued to pay attention to every detail, and he was ready to respond to anything and everything the prosecutor threw at us from the other end. This man had p...atience with me when I needed it most and was solid in his counsel throughout my adversities. I called five lawyers as soon as I received my legal notice for admin separation, and Attorney Barry responded promptly. The other lawyers called back a few days later. I am stressing this importance because when you get punched with a legal notice, your mind will be reeling, and you want solid counsel to lay out your options. This man is a consummate professional. He handled my situation with a firm hand even when circumstances were anything but clear. (hello, marine corps separation manual) When everything seems to be falling apart, you want a man who takes his job with the utmost seriousness and attention. The prosecutor threw curve balls, and Mr. Barry never lost his tact and positive demeanor. He examined everything and made notes on his black laptop (a ThinkPad that looks like a government computer). Attorney Barry prepared me for everything; he ensured I was cross-examined with my JAG lawyer. (make sure you get this practice, you will never be ready to be vilified in that room, but it helps to know what will happen.) As a GySgt who focused his life in the Marine Corps for the last 20 years, who made a mistake, took his NJP, had a retirement ceremony, and was suddenly yanked back from terminal leave to be put on admin separation board notice, I honestly thought my whole career as a Marine would be ripped out from me. I was less than two months from having 20 years in the marine corps, and the new CO, who didn't even know me, wanted to admin separate me before I hit my 20 year mark. My lawyer, Attorney Barry, worked and countered what the prosecutors threw at me, and I ended up with a grade and characterization determination board. A small win, but this new CO wanted to give me a reduction of rank and an other-than-honorable discharge. I came away with a positive result from that board and am incredibly grateful. This man saved my career. No fluff, just truth. My advice is don’t break the rules, but if you have already made a mistake and facing challenging times ahead, this man is one of the best defense lawyers for the military. Retiring GySgt USMC

Extraordinary, Hardworking, Dedicated!!

Mr. Barry is an extraordinary attorney! First, Mr. Barry was always available (no matter the time difference) to answer questions and provide legal guidance! He was very responsive and immediately answered any questions. Second, he is the ultimate professional and bases all information off fac...ts supported by evidence and regulation! 15-6 investigation

Matthew was extremely helpful through-out the investigation. He gave advice based on his experiences and time in the army. I appreciated his realistic straight-forward demeanor. I would highly recommend him to anyone in or out of the army.

Above and beyond service. Great outcome. Very fair price.

I'm a dad of a cadet facing a high-stakes board. We did online research and hired Matthew due to his great reputation. Mathew did not disappoint. He was smart, well prepared, helped us create an excellent plan for the board hearing, and even made the trip personally to attend the hearing and support ...my cadet. He was knowledgeable, fast, efficient, affordable, worked very late hours to get the job done, and quickly got the right results for our family. Highly recommended!

Outstanding attorney

Mr. Barry, Matthew is such an amazing and outstand attorney. He has strong military legal experience and professionalism. I had a miserable life due to the toxic leadership from my Commander. My commander recommended me a UCMJ article 15 without any evidence. He abused his power and mistreated me. I ...was also suffering mental disorder and had been hospitalized several times this year. Military TDS attorney recommended me to resign the commission. Compared with attorney Barry, they are lazy, inexperience and very unprofessional. They are just like my commander to ruin my military career. However, after I hired attorney Barry, my life is completely changed. Under his guide and advice, I successfully won the board of inquiry. He help me save my military career and beat the injustice that is created from my commander’s toxic leadership. Not only this, my mental health condition is also getting much better after I hired attorney Barry. Attorney Barry is also an Army MAJOR retired. He also like a senior officer, mentor and led me to success. Therefore, if any injustice impact your military career, hiring attorney Barry is your # 1 choice.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
