Prospective Clients - DO NOT HIRE

I retained Mr. Dolfman to represent me in a criminal matter, and after discussing the issue with him, he told me that he would speak with the prosecutor and have the investigation dropped. He said that he would do that for $1500. I requested from him a written retainer agreement but for reasons that ...resides in his own heart, he never sent one. Despite not sending the written retainer agreement, I sent him $1500 but as it turned out he never spoke with the prosecutor about the investigation and instead came back the next day saying that he would take it to trial if I paid him an ADDITIONAL $1500. However, after I discovered that he had not spoken with the prosecutor after I had already paid him the first $1500, that he did not have liability insurance at the time I paid him (and still does not have liability insurance as of this review), and would not send a written retainer agreement, I requested that he refund my money but he refused to do so. I was then forced to file both a civil lawsuit against him as well as a formal complaint with the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board. In response, Mr. Dolfman told the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board that he had placed my money in his attorney's business operating account with BB&T. However, after I sued him to recover my $1500 from him, I served his bank with a Subpoena and BB&T provided me with documents that showed that Mr. Dolfman had in fact deposited my $1500 into his own personal bank account and not his attorney's business operating account as he misrepresented to the Disciplinary Board. In addition, in responding to the lawsuit, he told the court, under oath, that he and I had no written contract or agreement to indicate the terms of any relationship. In other words, without the signed written retainer agreement, Mr. Dolfman was hoping to avoid having to return the money. After all of these facts were brought to the attention of the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board, Mr. Dolfman returned the money but only after the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board sent him a letter of reprimand for his conduct in this matter. The bottom line is: I had to sue this man and file a formal complaint with the Disciplinary Board to get my money back. For your sake, don't be the next VICTIM. Because at the end of the day, nothing will ever change the fact that I had to sue Mr. Dolfman and file a formal complaint with the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board that resulted in his reprimand to get my money back from him that he never was entitled in the first place, because after all he told the court under oath that he had no written contract or agreement with me to indicate the terms of any relationship.

Don't hire

Charged me a fortune telling me my license would be reinstated immediately upon appeal. That information is totally incorrect in Pennsylvania. So he either lied to me or doesn't know Pennsylvania law. Told me just what I wanted to hear so I would hire him and collect my money. So he charged me full... price and only did half of the job. I'm only asking for half of my money back which is being more than fair. There's right and wrong and he knows he's wrong but still being ignorant about it. Now I have to contact the Pennsylvania bar association.

To begin with, you hired me to file an Appeal to the Superior court of Pennsylvania after you pled guilty to a DUI charge with a different attorney. I did that work 100% for you. Your license suspension would have been dismissed had we won on appeal. However, we were unsuccessful due to your plea. So, that was our strategy and you knew that. You were always fully informed of what was going on with your case and I even arranged your turn in date with Judge Eisenberg. The bottom line is I did the work that you paid me to do. Nothing is a guarantee and I am sorry we were not successful on your appeal.

Doesn't follow through

Hired him for my brothers case. He didnt bring up key points in the trial. My brother has been in prison for over 20 years now. He stuttered in court during deliberation and failed to even object. My brother is still getting railroaded by the legal system. Hes up for parole and all of a sudden his 20... to 40 turned into 25 to 50. The cop lied about his own dispatch and Dolfmans cross examination was less than adequate. He promised to visit my brother to discuss the case and never did. His whole approach is we can get them on the retrial where you have to pay again. Hes not to be trusted.

So this a review from 20 years ago by an anonymous person. I think this review in completely unfair, cowardly, and not true. There is no way I can respond to someone who was upset from something I may or may not have done from 20 years ago. If the case did not work out and your brother is serving additional time because of his failure to cooperate in prison that is not because of me. I work hard for everyone of my clients and try and get them the best outcome. I am sorry he got a bad sentence 20 years ago but I have no way to respond to someone who just posts a review for no reason or is simply mad.

Unfair, Lazy, and Does not answer phones

I hired this attorney for a DUI. He never wanted to answer his phone and all it did was go to voicemail. He was so hard to track. When it came to court he showed up late and was very unprofessional. I ended up firing him and hiring someone else. He also quoted me very high for my DUI and didn't do an...ything on time. Waste of time. His office is a disaster too

I believe this review to be completely fiction for the following reasons. First off, every call I receive is sent to my cell phone. I either answer it or respond to it via text message. I never wait more than 2 hours to call or text back a client. That is my policy. Second, if I am ever late to court, which is rare, the courtroom, the Judge, and the client are always aware of the fact. I have spent 22 years going to court everyday and enjoy an excellent reputation with every judge in Philadelphia and Montgomery county, PA. Third, My fees especially for DUI cases are very reasonable. I don't know what not doing anything on time means but I welcome the opportunity to speak to the "anonomous" person who posted this review. I also don't know what my office being a disaster means. I maintain a very professional office and try to cater to all my clients in a professional and courteous way. Not everyone can always be satisfied with everyone. Some people simply have it out for you if the case does not go your way. Nothing is guaranteed in the area of criminal defense law, and I am sorry that this person had a bad experience, although I don't know who it might be.

Very poor showmanship

I met with Doug to discuss a case I had several months ago. He insisted that my case was a strong one and we had to act fast! I did exactly what he said and hired him for $2500 cash. I never received a receipt and when I asked for one he said the email exchange between us was "good enough." I tried m...eeting with him several times to discuss any advances in the case to which he never showed up nor picked up my calls. After months of the run around I haven't received any information. I listened to everything he said and acted fast and at no point did I ever feel I was even a priority to him. Make sure you do more research before making the same mistake I did.

This client had a claim that at first looked promising but after investigation it was not the type of case that would have been successful. The underlying case was not fully investigated by the local police department and because of their reluctance to pursue the matter we did not move forward with the case. Communication on my end was complete but could have done a better job keeping up with the client on developments.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
