Works hard and is nice

When I married my husband we had very little money so I needed to work. My grandmother was also very sick and I wanted to see her before she died. Mr. Mark got my work authorization and travel authorization very fast, and I got my green card in less than one year. He called me back right away every t...ime I called him. And I called a lot.

Naturalization

My case was administratively closed after I missed my naturalization interview due to not receiving the notice. To navigate the complexities of immigration law, I sought Erik Mark's assistance in reopening my case. I chose him because of its excellent reputation and positive online reviews. His exper...tise and commitment to client satisfaction, especially during the personalized consultation, gave me confidence. The lawyer provided outstanding support by reviewing my application and ensuring I had all the necessary documentation. He promptly addressed my questions, alleviating my stress. The lawyer clearly explained the legal terms and reviewed the interview questions. I am pleased to have successfully obtained my U.S. citizenship, and the process was smooth. This achievement has opened new opportunities for me, including the ability to vote and travel with a U.S. passport. I highly recommend Eric Mark's services to anyone needing help with immigration matters.

Immigration case

We had such a "pleasant experience" from this lawyer. After a brief 30 minute "free consultation", he charged 100 as a deposit out of 850 for a "review" of our paperworks for immigration. However we decided not to hire him because after a research, we felt that we do not need to hire any lawyer a...t this point. So I went back to the office to pick up our documents that we left with him, first time we went he said he doesn't have time to go and search for it and asked us to come back, so i went back the next day. A young assistant showed up and said that he said that we owe another $50 deposit if we want our own docs back to us. Wait a minute… he didn't say anything about the additional 50. and he lied to my husband that he did tell me ahead of time about the 150 for a consultation. Wait a minute, in his website, it clearly states that the consultation is free. maybe he thought i was such a dumb immigrant who doesn't understand English. Well Im not. Not only did he make up of a fee charge of 150 sending his assistant who doesn't even know noting about the case to talk to me (avoided to talk to us in person), instead he would always send his assistant to communicate. My husband even had to leave a fake name so that he would return to his call because he was clearly avoiding to talk. I really don't know where this charge comes from although it maybe a small charge but thats not the point. We are clients and it is a lawyer's responsibility to inform us about any occurring fees upon consultation. WE feel betrayed by this lawyer when we were seeking for a lawyer thats trustworthy. A trust comes first when it comes to hiring a lawyer.

As this person described, the consultation on the phone for about 15 minutes was free. The case was complicated involving an already-filed case with documentation and letters from USCIS, so a more lengthy consultation was necessary. They agreed to proceed with my assistance, but explained they could not afford the full fee at that time. I offered a payment plan in which they paid $100 as a down payment and then paid in installments. After spending over an hour with them and providing them instruction on what documents to gather and how, they to proceed with me. The next week they called and said they would proceed without me. It is misleading conduct like theirs that makes attorneys like me, who try to make legal expertise available to those with limited incomes, regretful and reluctant for offering payment plans and free consultations.

Seems he doesn't pay attention to all cases

He totally screwed me around on my Immigration case. He went behind my, back as his client he never consulted me on the decision he made in my case. So much so I've reached out to the American Bar Association about his actions in my case, in getting a court decision I never saw coming because this ...lawyer failed to consult his client. He never even addressed the application I submitted in court, and I paid him for that. Instead he allowed his client to blindsided by the courts decision. Don't waste your money on this "Shyster". I paid him over $8000.00, and got absolutely nothing done. He does not know LAw.

This person has two convictions including an a robbery and a drug conviction. This person had no legal status in the United States. This person wanted to apply for relief pursuant to the Convention Against Torture ("CAT") based on an incident that happened over 30 years ago and for which there was no proof. As such, this person had no chance of winning. I explained that to this person and informed this person we would try to close removal proceedings so s/he would not be deported, even though s/he would not have legal status. We must have explained this to this person because s/he obtained the letters and evidence we needed to make this request. We could not have made this request unless s/he participated in the request. The DHS lawyer said this was the most difficult approval she had ever done and agreed to terminate the court proceedings so this person would not be deported. Upon sharing the good news that this person would not be deported, s/he became angry. I will choose to pretend that this person said thank you for our hard work that prevented deportation and respond with, "You're welcome."

Unprofessional behavior

I took a free consultation(Was clearly mentioned not interested in paid consultation) appointment. After completion of the overview of my case, they were insulting/arguing about paying the fee of $250, They behaved very unprofessional.

This person called at 1 p.m. and wanted a consultation. He was informed a consultation on the phone is free, but a consultation in person with documents costs $250. He elected to come in to the office. One of the lawyers spent more than a full hour with him. He then refused to pay the fee insisting he did not have any money, despite holding an iPhone 13. He said he only had a credit card, to which we offered him to pay with a credit card. He said he did not have it with him. We offered him to pay by Venmo, Zelle or CashApp since he had his phone with him. He refused. He did not offer to go home and send a payment. He wanted to argue, but never offered to pay, so I told him to leave as we'd wasted enough time. So yes, if you are looking for a an hour-long consultation without paying, I do not recommend me, either.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
