I am very sorry to see these comments and I wish I could have done more for this anonymous client. I try to do my best in every case but, given the mandatory minimum penalties that legislatures have set for some case types, it can sometimes be very hard to change the ultimate outcome. It is my job to research and raise legal and constitutional defenses and to advise my client accordingly. The one thing I can't do is change the facts or circumstances that lead to the charges and that is what often drives the court's decision.
I wish things had ended differently for this unknown client. Unfortunately, they didn't. Hiring a lawyer is always a difficult decision and no results are ever guaranteed. All I can do is give my clients a better chance at a favorable outcome; sometimes, no amount of hope and effort can make that a reality. In those cases, none of us walk away happy, all we can do is learn from the experience.
