James Bruce Lewis

James, hands down, is the best attorney in the area. He's the first and only person I needed to call. I researched him through his Yelp and Avvo reviews and his reputation precedes himself. He's supported me thoroughly and allowed me to walk away free of a DUI on the criminal and civil side. Hands do...wn, I'm glad he was my first choice.

Being an out-of-state resident that was arrested on the suspicion of a DUI (I was pulled over for no head lights), I had originally planned on retaining the services of an attorney recommended to me by some friends - but ultimately decided that it would be in my best interest to find a lawyer that ha...d past and SUCCESSFUL experiences with out-of-state clients. After doing a bit of research, I elected to go with James Lewis and the decision turned out to be the right one! James' calm and clear-headed demeanor was visible from our first interaction together. He was up front and transparent in telling me that I should be prepared in returning to Hawaii on more than one occasion - something that I appreciated from the get go. Throughout our conversations, I told James' I was troubled by the arresting officer's inconsistency in his account of the events. At the first hearing, the State was not ready to proceed with our case (officer out sick). During the second hearing (8 months from my original arrest date), we went to trial. It should be said that of the dozen or so other cases during our assigned time slot - we were the only case that actually ended up going to trial. James' presence and eloquence helped him decisively cross-examine the arresting officer and present the facts about the case. He was ultimately able to demonstrate that the State could not prove - beyond a reasonable doubt - that I was under the influence.

I'll be brief and and start from the beginning. Was pulled over and the officer arrested me for DUI (and also cited me for driving on expired license). Instead of calling the attorneys who sent notices in the mail, I googled DUI Lawyer Hawaii and James Lewis was the first match. I left a voicemail ...for James and he called me back right away. Listened to my story and gave me his legal opinion (we were more than likely to have this case end in our favor). We made an appointment to meet in person over the weekend. He spent an hour going over the entire legal process and what to expect. He was very thorough and extremely patient with me in answering all of my questions. James said he would handle all the motions/filings/subpoenas to prepare for my case. He was able to get a copy of the police report for me as well. A couple months later, we got a court date and attended together. James knew exactly how to win this case and did exactly that in front of the judge. I was acquitted of DUI. Eventually I had the expired license charge dismissed as well. Overall: He's very open and honest. I asked him what his case workload was like and he admitted it's pretty high. But he never once made me feel like I wasn't a priority. He's very passionate about representing his client and fighting/winning for them. I never once felt like I was lied to or given the "run-around" which I appreciated. Although I hired him to represent me in my DUI case, he also handled the expired license case free of charge. The level of service James Lewis provided to me was outstanding and left me very happy. Advice: If you hire James (which you should) and meet at his place of business, take off your shoes before entering.

Just completed my DUI trial. The total time from arrest to trial was about 4 months. James is very upfront about everything from price to walking you through this difficult, scary process. I left everything to him, from getting my license back from ADLRO (in less than 3 weeks) the arraignment (which ...he handled) to the actual trial. Don't let his nonchalant attitude fool you, it is because he truly knows what he's doing. The biggest thing with him is he will not plea bargain, he will fight as long as it takes to get your case dismissed or found not guilty. During trial I felt there were inaccuracies and discrepancies from the testimonies and thought they should be brought up to discredit the witnesses, but I believed in James and let him do his thing. He did not have to cross examine too much because he felt the prosecution's case was weak. In the end, I was found not guilty. Total relief, trust James he is the best hands down.

This was my second dui . the first time I had a different lawyer and all he did was plea deal and I have to plea guilty to an dui. This time I came to James he advised me to fight the case. So I did and he got my case dismissed .and he got my driver license back for me .and the feeling is priceless. ...I would recommend James to all my friends.
