James was the best choice I could have made

I remember how stressful the process of selecting a lawyer was after being arrested for a DUI. Some offices I had to leave a message or make an appointment with the secretary. When I called James he answered himself, asked relevant questions, and overall left me feeling much better about the situati...on. After a brief meeting in person I knew I would want him representing me in court and that he'd offer the best defense possible against not only the DUI but speeding and reckless driving as well. James never made me feel pressured and only offered useful advice. My case became very drawn out due to how the court works and I had to go in five times, sometimes only to reschedule as they ran out of time. James was always there and he always kept me informed as to whether my case would actually be dealt with, where we were in the case, and allowed me to make strategic decisions based on his explanations. James was well known and well respected in the courtroom from my experiences there and I was always happy and felt relaxed that he was representing me. James immediately got my excessive speeding charge reduced to a traffic fine and we were debating the merits of taking the deal for the reckless charges depending on how the officer presented my driving. He also felt we could make a strong case against the DUI charges. So I was in pretty good shape even though I felt pretty rough when it first happened. However things ended even better than expected as after almost a 13 month wait James was able to get all charges dismissed with prejudice. All while I had moved away from Hawaii in the last two months to pursue a graduate program. So everything was dismissed and I never had to come back for a court date. I will always be grateful for James and how he helped me.

5 stars

James Lewis is an amazing lawyer. If you hire him, you can rest easy in the sense that he will take care of your best interests, and not miss any details. He's personable, trustworthy, and gets the job done. I was more than glad I hired him to help me when I was arrested for a DUI. A year later my ca...se was dismissed, because James stayed on top of every detail. He was also very helpful, nonjudgemental, & sensitive to any questions or concerns I had... I would highly recommend him for anyone going through a DUI.

DUI case dismissed with prejudice

I was on my vacation in HI last year and was pulled over by an officer. I failed my breathing test and field test and my license was suspended. I found James on Yelp search and I was extremely concerned about my career since I hold a professional license and even if DUI happened out of state where I ...work, it cannot look good anyhow. When it happened, I couldn't even see James and only talked to him on the phone. He was transparent about his fees and helped me with future expectations and difficulties. I had to go back to HI twice more after the incident, but the final result was case dismissal with prejudice. I was probably one of the most demending clients for him but he understood how one person in my situation can feel and was patient with me. I wasn't able to get my driver's license back but it is no way in HI to make that happen before suspension period unless it's some type of occupational permit or interlock device permit. It was a long journey but I am very happy with the result. If anyone around me goes through similar situation, I will definitely recommend James to represent you.

Out of State Resident - DUI Case - Went to Trial - Not Guilty

Being an out-of-state resident that was arrested on the suspicion of a DUI (I was pulled over for no head lights), I had originally planned on retaining the services of an attorney recommended to me by some friends - but ultimately decided that it would be in my best interest to find a lawyer that ha...d past and SUCCESSFUL experiences with out-of-state clients. After doing a bit of research, I elected to go with James Lewis and the decision turned out to be the right one! James' calm and clear-headed demeanor was visible from our first interaction together. He was up front and transparent in telling me that I should be prepared in returning to Hawaii on more than one occasion - something that I appreciated from the get go. Throughout our conversations, I told James' I was troubled by the arresting officer's inconsistency in his account of the events. At the first hearing, the State was not ready to proceed with our case (officer out sick). During the second hearing (8 months from my original arrest date), we went to trial. It should be said that of the dozen or so other cases during our assigned time slot - we were the only case that actually ended up going to trial. James' presence and eloquence helped him decisively cross-examine the arresting officer and present the facts about the case. He was ultimately able to demonstrate that the State could not prove - beyond a reasonable doubt - that I was under the influence.

Best DUI lawyer period!

Just completed my DUI trial. The total time from arrest to trial was about 4 months. James is very upfront about everything from price to walking you through this difficult, scary process. I left everything to him, from getting my license back from ADLRO (in less than 3 weeks) the arraignment (which ...he handled) to the actual trial. Don't let his nonchalant attitude fool you, it is because he truly knows what he's doing. The biggest thing with him is he will not plea bargain, he will fight as long as it takes to get your case dismissed or found not guilty. During trial I felt there were inaccuracies and discrepancies from the testimonies and thought they should be brought up to discredit the witnesses, but I believed in James and let him do his thing. He did not have to cross examine too much because he felt the prosecution's case was weak. In the end, I was found not guilty. Total relief, trust James he is the best hands down.
