Outcome Navid was able to negotiate a significant reduction of spousal support, including getting me other stipulations I was looking for. I will not share his strategy, you will have to call him for that, but what I will share is that I am very impressed with his approach to the case and how well prepared he was. Background When you get divorced things are not always easy, in fact they could be out right difficult. In my case, I thought I could handle things on my own (meaning no attorney), partly because we were agreeable at the time (you might feel that way to, but a few years down the road your thoughts will change) and partly because I did not feel like I could afford it. If you messed up as I did, get yourself a good attorney (Navid Moshtael). Cost The best things in life do not come free. Navid’s fees are reasonable, but that does not mean you are not going to spend some money. Navid will do the work, but you have to pay him and he will at times ask you to replenish the retainer. The guy has got to eat you know. He will work with you in terms of the retainer and his accounting team is super friendly. Do the math: attorney cost vs. cost of alimony over time. Participation Remember this is your case. You MUST participate! Just like when you go to the doctor, the doctor only knows what you tell him/her. Just think of him as your quarterback and you as the coach on the sidelines. You call the plays, but the quarterback can call audible. You know your ex-spouse, what he or she is thinking and will do. Share as much information as you can in the beginning and along the way. If you anticipate something or have knowledge of something, you need to give your quarterback a heads up so he can have the advantage. What you need to know - Your case is going to take some time. Be patient, but listen to Navid and file your RFO in the beginning. Regardless of how you feel or whether or not you want to negotiate, get the RFO in. It will start the clock. - Navid does not work by himself. He is your strategist and point man (only if you request it). He has a team of individuals that will do various jobs. You will need to work with the team and remember that it is your case. You need to take the reins. - If you do not know what is going on, if you have questions, if you see something wrong. Speak up! It is on you.

Back in March, my wife and I decided to separate. I thought that the separation would last a short period of time and that we would figure things out.
