Harris Brumer is a 1997 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He served on active duty for six years as a military intelligence officer and was stationed with the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. In 2002, he earned a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University, while still on active duty. Mr. Brumer left the Army as a Captain in 2003 and attended law school locally in San Diego at The Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
Upon graduation from law school in 2006, Mr. Brumer worked in both criminal defense and in bankruptcy law at two private firms in San Diego. In 2009, he began work as the civilian Director of Legal Assistance at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Legal Assistance is a free service that is offered to all active duty personnel, their dependents, and military retirees. At Miramar, he handled practically all civil matters, to include: Family Law, Landlord/Tenant law, Consumer Law, Bankruptcy, and Federal Civil Rights (SCRA, USERRA, etc.). However, during this time, Mr. Brumer developed a true passion for Family Law and aggressively represented hundreds of clients in divorces, support cases, child custody matters, move-away orders, and domestic violence cases. Mr. Brumer noticed that many Family Law attorneys in San Diego lacked his unique knowledge of the military and its specific application to Family Law. He has since sought to fill this void.
After successfully serving for 3 ½ years, Mr. Brumer left government service and decided to go into private practice. Mr. Brumer made this move, in part, to better serve clients without the restraint of government rules and regulations that he felt unnecessarily impeded his ability to properly fight for his clients’ rights. Mr. Brumer realized that a successful Family Law practice requires far more than the drafting of legal documents or negotiating settlements. It requires in depth knowledge and courtroom experience.
Mr. Brumer is a Certified Specialist in Family Law, in accordance with the California State Bar, California Board of Legal Specialization. He looks forward to serving you!

After doing some online research on best attorneys in San Diego, I came across Harris’s name multiple times. He’s very knowledgeable in his field, he made the process a breeze. He was always available, answered back quickly, and eased my stress every step of the way. I would highly recommended!
"I endorse this lawyer. Family law is very emotional and Harris has the right personality for it, very understanding, professional, patient and friendly."

"As a long time participant in Avvo, I often receive pleas for help from indigent people with a legal problem who have little or no financial resources. Recently, I responded to such a plea from a retired veteran who recently lost his wife. He explained his financial circumstances and it struck a chord with me. I asked him to contact 3-4 San Diego BK lawyers and felt confident he would get some help. Sure enough, Harris Brumer responded to the same Avvo post and quickly offered to take the BK matter pro-bono. It turns out that Mr. Brumer is a former military officer who often helps fellow vets. I am proud to recommend Mr. Brumer as an excellent lawyer with a big heart. You can't get a better combination than that."
"Harris is calm and compassionate, which serves him well in an emotional practice like Divorce and Separation. Having known Harris for years, I can attest to his attention to detail and his energy and enthusiasm. I endorse Harris Brumer."
