In my court-mandated DUI class (where I've been sent for 9 months,) mr skalsky is kind of a running joke. while I sit amongst other DUI offenders with higher BAC's, and lighter sentences, people always crack, "at least I didn't have Bri's lawyer!" When I first called mr skalsky for a consultation he was as nice as could be. He seemed genuine and sympathetic and patient and reassuring. Although he was a few hundred dollars more expensive than some other attorneys I spoke with, he seemed to have a lot of compassion and I was willing to pay for a lawyer who seemed like they cared. Well. Literally the moment after I paid him, he became dismissive, hard to reach and totally unhelpful. He often forgot my name and the details of my case (wait, no, he never even asked for the details of my case, he just got all his info from the police report and I didn't even meet him in person until the day of my hearing-- which he showed up to over an hour late.) when I would call or email to ask questions, he would sometimes not respond, or would be very vague. When my hearing finally did come, he did not negotiate a deal, he just took what the DA offered (which was basically as harsh as it could be.) like I said, others I've come into contact throughout this DUI debacle (some with multiple DUIs, or people who had public defenders) don't have punishments half as harsh as mine. I might as well have thrown my money in the trash. I could take a plea just as easily as he did, and I was actually at my hearing on time.

When I found myself in an unjust situation and was accused of a DUI in the state of CA, I immediately went online and found 100 ambulance chasers who were more than happy to take my money upfront with no review of my case or account of the incident. They were the equivalent of a 1950's janitor. They could only fit my case into the black & white pattern they could see on their screen. I was finally referred to Mr. Skalsky by my family lawyer, who immediately sounded like a REAL HUMAN BEING WHO CARED. And he did. He fought for my case at a reasonable rate, allowed me to pay him in payments because of my financial situation, and took the time to research, investigate, create timelines, and day by day, slowly picked the case apart against me.
He took the time, did not rush, was sensitive to the fact that this was one of the most horrible things that has ever happened to me and fought for me in both the DMV court & the CA State Court. He always spoke to me straight and honest about the possible consequences and which path I would like to chose. He made it clear each step of the way it was my choice. Rarely did I have to show up in court, and I was updated upon each new development. When the case was dismissed for a tiny infraction of a minor traffic violation, he was still ready to go to court with a jury and judge if I so chose to get the whole thing thrown out of court. Weighing the court expense, and the time involved, I chose to go with the tiny infraction.
I am not saying that each and every case will turn out like mine. Mine was a clear violation of my rights, but I can promise that I have met very few lawyers with the integrity, common sense, and human decency of Mr. Skalsky. I would recommend him to anyone facing the DUI courts and would feel safe in the knowledge that even if it were not the best outcome you were looking for, he would deal with you fairly, honestly and as a human being with feelings.
