Horrible Attorney

Mandy was my divorce attorney. She gave me false hope on my case. I was a soon to be single mom with 3 kids, 15, 11, and 6. The 15 year old and the 11 year old were not my EX Husbands "legal children" only the 6 year old boy, but at the time he was just turning 5. I wasn't asking for much from my di...vorce, child support, and for the kids to remain together and not be separate. I wasn't asking for the house, cars, furniture.. Etc.. Just for my 3 children to remain together majorly of the time. Mandy thought she could make that happen. 1 weeks before the trial date I had an appointment with Mandy, I walked into her office to discuss my case when it smelled like an ash-tray as I walked in, also she had a smoking pipe just sitting on her desk. As she is hacking up a lung and I am now concerened for my court hearing in a week, Mandy says "The judge shouldn't split up the siblings it all going to be ok, I feel like we have a strong case!" I walked out with doubt, but already paid 3,500 for a retainer that I later fpuns out I owed more! We went to court that next week. My kids were split up and Mandy never brought up my kids in court!! My ex husbands attorney did when he called them "teenage girls!" They're not teenage girls I was thinking, I then nudged Mandy and told her she needs to say something, She only said " the sibling are very close" That was it. My son now is in therapy twice a week due to the trauma of being split up with his siblings and not wanting to go to his dad's every weekend. Mandy knew all this and my concern with my ex and his verbally abusive ways, not only with me but with my kids as well! And she said NOTHING! It was all about the paycheck! There is one thing to love your job and be successfully good at it, but there is another to think your good at your job and only take advantage of the situation and the clients money. After my court case I recieved another bill from Mandy for over 1,500 dollars. I paid it in full. And will make sure I tell everyone my experience I had with this attorney. She was a nightmare and her poor work has only made it more difficult for myself and my children. She also wouldn't speak to me on the phone because I had a balance owed to her. Seriously? She also charged me about her 500.00 dollars to drop me as a client. She went to court and signed off on my legal representation and charged me 500.00 for that. In the mean time my ex and his lawyer showed up as well, I was not longer being represented so I knew nothing about the court date. I was then slapped with another 2,500.00 dollar request from my ex husbands Attorney for taking up his time and for him having to show up in court so Mandy could tell the judge she was no longer representing me. So 3,000 dollars is what I was charged the day Mandy dismissed her self as my council. 2,500 I was summons to pay my ex and 500.00 to Mandy. She was the worst attorney. You get what you pay for obviously.

This is in response to the above stated review. This particular person, hired a very competent attorney after being unhappy with my representation and the same thing happened. She will never be happy with anything is my ultimate conclusion. This review took me awhile to place because I never attended a trial in this case. This client apparently had no idea what was going on, I will take blame in that, she should have understood as I clearly explained that custody cases, are marathon's not sprints. There were numerous allegations between both parties in this case. The client could not afford the kind of litigation, that she was seeking. My advice upon the first hearing (which is the only hearing I attended), was that settlement of the issues in the case would be more beneficial for this client and her family. First off, joint custody was the policy of the judge that we were in front of. Secondly, this client had already withheld the child from dad which is something also not beneficial in front of the particular judge we were in front of (I have seen custody transferred from one parent to the other for these particular tactics, and I didn't want this client to lose her kid). Agreeing to provide Dad joint physical custody, and see what would happen in the future saved this client time and money, this was my advice to her. Relationships with both parents is typically in the best interest of the children. The client reported that there were problems with Dad, and she insinuated that he should have no relationship with his child. There was EMOTIONAL abuse alleged. This is something that is extremely hard to prove, because one parents "emotional abuse" is another parent's discipline . Being successful in these kind of cases, requires an expert opinion, and further financial commitment. Nevada's Law is written so that both parties maintain a relationship with the children, equally. This client was never going to be happy (and still probably isn't) until dad had no relationship with his child, this is an unrealistic, and unreasonable view in most cases. Ultimately, the client did agree to settle, and we placed all the agreements of the parties on the record. She continued to withhold the child and needed further legal assistance of counsel.

One of the worst experiences I've ever been involved in

I hired Mandy to handle my child custody case because my cousin was using her for the same thing at the same time. Mandy gave us both false hopes. Laughing about the whole thing like it was a joke on court days. My experiences with her were awful. She didn't reply to me when she should have. She did ...things at her own slow pace. I was living in a different state at the time I flew out for one of my court dates and sat at the court house waiting. When I didn't see Mandy I called and that's when she bothered to let me know they changed my court date. So I had to fly back and wasn't able to attend. Of course this wasn't Mandys fault oh no. But I didn't see her sitting down there with me. She also completely dropped the ball on other parts of the case. She was just embarassing. Lied when papers she was supposed to send weren't. It's crazy she has an 8 rating on here. Find someone who actually cares.

Litigation is not a poor man's sport. Litigation is also difficult between 2 states. Communication can be difficult and particular departments have their own way they provide notice when hearings are continued. It is always particularly difficult when you have 2 parents in 2 different states, which is how this case was. Did not mean that as counsel I cared less, I tried to navigate this case with impossible facts to achieve acceptable results for the client. As with most cases and unhappy clients, the unhappiness set in further when the bill came. Just as with this particular clients brother who also did not want to pay. If you cannot make an attempt to pay your bill or set up a small monthly payment this is what will happen. Our firm unlike others does accept monthly payments. That said, if you really cannot afford counsel, the local Pro Bono provider is the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, which can be called at 702-386-1070 (or see their information on the web at http://www.lacsn.org/option,com_jcalpro/Itemid,3/extmode,view/extid,15/). Those that take pro bono cases take them after they have been screened, and assigned, by Legal Aid. The Reduced Fee Panel sponsored by the State Bar can be reached at 702-382-2200. Additionally, there are free consultations offered on Thursdays at the self-help center; volunteer attorneys provide 15-minute consultations, for free, on family law questions. For those that wish to attempt self-representation, forms are available at the Clark County self-help center website, at http://www.clarkcountycourts.us/shc/Supporting%20Documents/self_help_supportingdocs.html. This Firm does not have late filings and rates and fees are competitive. All fees and rates are disclosed. The more difficult and contested the case becomes , the fees and rates will rise accordingly. This is standard for the Legal Industry. Whether the Firm is Large or Small the expectation of maintaining funds in your Trust account and or Retainer account will be

Excellent attorney who won't waste your money

When I hired Ms. McKellar to assist me with a child custody matter, I found her to be familiar with the law, understanding of my situation, and supportive of my objectives. She was responsive and professional throughout my case and achieved the results I was looking for without having to go to trial.... Her methods will give you your best chance of winning while keeping costs to a minimum. I highly recommend her for all family law matters.
