Your right attorney in need

If you are reading this review in search for an attorney then I can assure you that this is the attorney you need to have. It was my first time to be caught up on the wrong side of the law more less a traffic offense and was arrested for some hours before being bailed by my wife but that wa...s that the beginning of the case. I had to find a lawyer within a week. Being an immigrant and first time to deal with lawyers it was a big puzzle I had to rely on google search and it took a positive review some woman posted on James Sullivan page to convince me that I was at the right site. When I called him it was around 6pm I thought I will be told to call following morning since it was after business hrs but he had all the time to listen to my story and offered possible solutions or approach we should use to fight case in court and he assured me he will do his best. He lived by his word, he was very professional through out my four court appearances. I was expecting an arrest but I walked out free. During the entire trial my job was not affected as everyday I was able to go work despite this case going on. Iam so thankful to God for the right and professional attorney James Sullivan and I commend him to anyone who has a hopeless or complicated case, his knowledge and experience is the best.

Hats off to Mr. Sullivan!

Mr. Sullivan represented my adult son and I cannot be more thankful that I found him! He was able to work out a surprisingly good plea bargain for my son. My son is an addict and committed a series of drug store robberies over a 3 month period in order to get money for... drugs after losing his job. He would pass a note to a cashier, saying he had a gun (which he did not have), and demanded money, which was then given to him. He thought he had found a solution to his cash flow problems, so he continued to rob. Of course, he eventually got caught. He was charged with 2 aggravated robberies and a regular robbery. The only reason he wasn’t charged with 3 aggravated robberies was because he had been chased from the scene of his last robbery, caught with the money he had taken, but did not have a gun. Instead of a weapon, he had concealed a plastic Wii remote under his shirt and pretended to have a gun. However, in the news, I was shocked to see a story about my son that claimed he was the person of interest in a dozen robberies. It seemed it was just going to be a matter of time before more charges were brought against my son. I found Mr. Sullivan’s website and sent him an email in the middle of the night, and he answered. He showed up early the next morning to reset the first court appearance of my son. He visited my son in the jail and spent several hours getting to know my son and his life story. He cared about him and wanted to get him the best result possible. Over the next 3 months, Mr. Sullivan continued to work for my son, eventually getting a surprisingly lenient plea bargain and I couldn’t be happier. My son admitted guilt to 2 regular robberies and was sentenced to 7 years in TDC. He could be eligible for parole in as little as 10 months if he is a model prisoner. Furthermore, part of the plea bargain was that no other charges would be brought forth. Had a dozen aggravated robbery charges been brought forward, there is a good chance my son would have been in prison for life! The sentence range for one aggravated robbery is from 5 years to life in prison. The State could have asked the judge to stack the sentences of those cases. Instead, of the 3 charges already on the books, 1 aggravated robbery charge was dismissed, and the other aggravated robbery charge was reduced to a regular robbery. The sentence range for a regular robbery is from 2 to 20 years in prison. Without Mr. Sullivan working on the case, I doubt that would have happened. Maybe you think my son deserved to be in jail for life, but when you get to know him and the story behind the story, you wouldn’t feel that way. My son is not going to be an addict the rest of his life. And, he didn’t break the law when he wasn’t an addict. He is a person who needs help to recover. Now he has that chance. He really wants to start going to Narcotics Anonymous meetings as soon as he is in a place where they have them. He has told me that he feels that “doing time” has saved his life, and Mr. Sullivan has made it possible for him to enjoy it again someday. I will continue to pray for Mr. Sullivan. He is the most genuinely compassionate person I have ever met!

Forever Grateful

Attorney Jim Sullivan was a Godsend for our family. My grandson was charged as an adult with aggravated assault of a family member. What happened was an accident and the police blew the incident way out of proportion. The police should never have been involved. The family member did not want my grand...son arrested and charged. He called the DA's office before charges were even filed and they refused to let it go. The family member then contacted Attorney Jim Sullivan who met with him and my grandson immediately. He spent several hours to understand what happened and the family dynamics and history that contributed to this accident and misunderstanding. He said that he would work to get the case dismissed by the grand jury as so that my grandson could then get the charges expunged from his record. He stayed in communication with the family member, my grandson and myself throughout the entire process. Three days before Thanksgiving the charges were dismissed. Mr. Sullivan's guidance, loyalty and understanding went beyond his role as our attorney. This family will be forever grateful. R Story

Outstanding Juvenile Attorney

My wife and I hired Jim to represent our 16 year old son after he was arrested for aggravated assault. We had no experience with the legal system but after talking with Jim we felt very confident and made the decision to hire him. His knowledge of the juvenile legal system impressed us from the begi...nning. Once he gathered the information he needed from us, he took care of everything else. Jim was quick to respond to our many questions and concerns via phone calls, text messages and emails. He believed this was a trial or dismissal case because he knew the wrong person had been arrested. This was exactly how we perceived it as well. Jim prepared himself and us for trial however after three resets, over a fourteen month period, Jim was able to convince the DA to do the right thing and dismiss the case. We will forever be grateful to Jim Sullivan for what he did for our family during this very trying time.

Jim Sullivan, a caring attorney

I was pleased to find attorney Jim Sullivan to represent my 16yr old nephew who was charged with a felony of aggravated assault in Brazoria County. Although the charges were serious, my nephew acted in self-defense. The other teen, two years older, is a known drug dealer, has a reputation for carryin...g weapons and had threatened to kill my nephew. During the mutual fist fight, the other teen fell and hurt his head. My nephew was devastated because he was not trying to hurt the other teen but only to defend himself. The other teen was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery and had weeks of recovery. He did fully recover and did not change his lifestyle at all. Through a court-appointed attorney, the prosecutor only offered either several years of determinate probation or to certify him as an adult where he could face 2 to 20 years in prison and have an adult criminal record. Either of those options was outrageous, unfair, and unjust. I then sought out an attorney who would fight for my nephew. After contacting Mr. Suliivan, I was pleased that he was able to meet with us immediately even after business hours. He took his time talking with us and spent at least two hours while not rushing our interview. Mr. Sullivan seems to genuinely care about people and especially teens. He always showed care and concern for my nephew. At the meeting, Mr. Sullivan agreed to take the case to a jury trial to get the best result. He was confident he could get the right result from the jury. In court, he told the prosecutor that if she did not dismiss the case or at least agree to a misdemeanor probation in which my nephew could later get his record sealed, then he would set the case for a trial and try it to a jury. And, finally, that is what the prosecutor finally agreed to. Mr. Sullivan was able to get my nephew a misdemeanor probation for less than one year without any jail time and was even able to get his probation transfered to Harris County. Although the outcome was not perfect it was much more desirable, something my nephew could live with and be able to continue on in life and still have a good future. I thank you Mr. Sullivan for working to help my nephew through this difficult time.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
