Calm, Collected, and Experienced

James Sullivan quite possibly saved my future from disaster. He's a fantastic lawyer to have in your corner and I'm glad I didn't go with someone else. I recently had a case come up that I needed some serious help with. I never had a criminal record in the past, and with my career, having a blemis...h on my record like this could potentially black list me. The situation rose when my wife and I started getting into very large, drawn out verbal arguments that sometimes led to the police being called. She had stopped taking her medication (anxiety and depression among others) which led to her irrationality in many situations. One particularly bad morning, we had an altercation as she blocked me from leaving for work and she later called the cops with an assault claim, thinking it would just scare me into coming home. Instead, they arrested me for Assault Family Violence (another fancy way of saying domestic violence), with which the D.A. takes it upon themselves to charge instead of my wife telling them not to. Needless to say, I was more than a little scared. I could have an assault on my record that could NEVER go away, regardless of probation or deferred adjudication. or pre-trial diversion (make sure to look into this if you have been charged with Assault Family Violence). I called James Sullivan after talking to about 8 different lawyers. Half of them were outrageously expensive with no promise to do any actual work, while the other half were scaring the hell out of me by saying that I could face jail time. Sullivan's approach was very different. He was calm, collected, and understanding. His background in various criminal cases gave him a wide breadth of experience – so he could communicate exactly what was coming, the steps I needed to take, and the possible outcomes of every decision. He was prompt, on time, and ALWAYS composed. In the end, I now have a way to get this case dismissed (without trial) and we are moving forward. Pretrial intervention is another way to get a case dismissed, but what Sullivan worked out is even better. This was a much better resolution than I could have ever hoped for especially after talking with other lawyers. Sullivan's fees are extremely fair, especially for the knowledge, expertise, and work he puts into your case. The fact that he can convey composure and seems to genuinely care for what you are going through is a huge bonus. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Give James Sullivan a call first.

Successful resolution of a difficult criminal case

We would recommend James Sullivan to anybody in need for help from a criminal attorney. Our son was involved in a very unfortunate case of terroristic thread, second degree felony. The case was particularly difficult as it happened just a couple of weeks after the shooting in Parkland, Florida, being... an extremely sensitive topic back then. We first hired a different attorney, but after a month we realized that we needed somebody with a better understanding of how to handle a difficult case like ours in the juvenile criminal system. From day one James shared a very clear vision of how to find a positive outcome to our son’s case. We followed his guidance and he was able to get a deferred probation followed by a dismissal after six months. James has a lot of experience and knows how to handle difficult cases, no doubt. Beyond helping us with the criminal case, James also provided very valuable advice to my son and helped us as parents to handle the situation. We cannot stress enough how much we appreciate the work James did for our family!

A truly excellent attorney who truly cares and is on a mission

I’m so fortunate to have hired James Sullivan who truly cares about you and your family. I spent almost a year knowing Mr. Sullivan and I have to say he was the most caring, thoughtful and supportive person during this entire ordeal. My son made a terrible decision and committed a sex felony at ...13 years old. Our first attorney, a CPS attorney, said he hadn’t received any correspondence from CPS or Harris County Juvenile Probation department. He told us more than likely the case was closed because it had been over a year. However, six months later, we were served with a petition that my son was charged with a serious sex felony. Lesson learned: Do not hire a CPS Attorney but hire a Juvenile Defense Attorney and save money and time. Thus, I had three days to hire an attorney to defend my son. I next hired a criminal defense attorney recommended by my CPS lawyer. Our second attorney turned out to be the worst nightmare of my life. My wife and I did some research and we selected James Sullivan for his proven record. Mr. Sullivan is a humble, intelligent and compassionate man who is very responsive and understanding. God bless James Sullivan, I wish we had more people in this world like him. James Sullivan arranged for our son to receive juvenile sex offender counseling with a private therapist. Mr. Sullivan said this would be important at the final disposition hearing, and he was right. My son is a warm, kindhearted person who is friendly and demonstrates compassion. He is an A and B student who plays musical instruments and participates in school athletics. I wish schools and parents would be more proactive and have a sexual behavioral class to teach our kids right from wrong. Unfortunately, we have not progressed enough for that. I also wish cell phone companies would warn parents about the dangers of unfiltered access to the internet. As Mr. Sullivan explained, hard core pornography online has led unfathomable numbers of children worldwide to sexually abuse other children, with some children acting out as young as five. I’m writing this review because I want families in a similar situation to make the right choice and learn from my lesson. James Sullivan is your CPS, criminal defense and juvenile defense attorney all rolled up in one, but he is much more than an attorney. He is a caring, thoughtful, compassionate person on a mission to help teens. Mr. Sullivan, thank you for every step of the way, your light shines brighter than the stars above. If only I could have recorded Mr. Sullivan’s passionate argument for pretrial diversion in front of the Judge and the prosecuting attorney. Wow! This guy has superior trial skills! We truly are blessed, and the judge granted Mr. Sullivan’s request and gave my son deferred prosecution. His case will be dismissed in less than a year, and he can get his record sealed at 17. Great job Mr. Sullivan and God bless you!

Family Violence

In November of 2018 I was arrested for the first time in my life. I spent time in jail for family violence and it was a moment of failure for me. I feared that my future and everything I had worked for over the course of my life would be in jeopardy. I’m not rich but I wasn’t going to risk my future ...any further, so I reached out to Mr. James Sullivan. I found Mr. Sullivan by googling for family violence lawyers. It was a Sunday and his name popped up showing that he worked on Sundays, so I gave him a call and we spent about an hour talking on that Sunday evening. Mr. Sullivan turned out to be the best decision I made in 2018. I told him I would be pleading not guilty and he told me he could possibly get the case dismissed, which was a relief to my stress. We went through 4 settings together, which required little to no work on my part. At each of our meetings Mr. Sullivan showed great professionalism, positivity, dependability, passion, and most of all he showed me that I could trust him. We talked about life, goals, and achievements. He shared his experiences and wisdom with me, recommending changes to certain aspects of my life. Overall, James Sullivan not only helped me legally, but he connected with me as a human being, and for that I will be forever grateful. My case was dismissed in exchange for community service and I left this experience as a better person. I 100% and wholeheartedly recommend Mr. James Sullivan as an attorney.

Thank you Jesse for your kind review. I am pleased that the DA agreed to dismiss the case with some community service. I hope the rest of your life is smooth sailing.

Endangering of a Child Case

I was charged with the felony of endangering a child after speeding and briefly racing at nighttime on the freeway. My 5-year-old was asleep on the backseat and not buckled in. At first, I didn’t know who to hire and I didn’t have that much money saved so I couldn’t afford an expensive lawyer, so I s...earched for a long time to find the right one, and I finally pulled the trigger to hire James Sullivan. He agreed to reduce his fees and work with me. I was nervous because I thought I hired an affordable lawyer, and in my mind I thought he was not going to put as much effort as a more expensive lawyer but glad to say I picked just the perfect one. For several months, he tried to drop my felony down to a misdemeanor but from the police video and all the information against me he was unsuccessful. He spoke to several prosecutors in the court and in hope that they would drop it down or to at least give me a pretrial intervention but none of them agreed. The case was frustrating already and even I started to give up, but he didn’t. He just wouldn’t take no for an answer. He tried one more person much higher up in the DA’s office, and thankfully she agreed to give me the opportunity to participate in a 2-year pre-trial intervention. It was the best feeling ever. Sullivan worked that hard because I am a resident and he told me that I could be deported or denied citizenship if I pled guilty even to a deferred adjudication. My wife and two children are U.S. citizens, and I was afraid I would get sent back and lose my family forever. I am thrilled about the outcome and grateful for Mr. Sullivan’s efforts. Glad I chose this lawyer. He went above and beyond for me, I am sure he will do the same for you too.
