Family Violence

In November of 2018 I was arrested for the first time in my life. I spent time in jail for family violence and it was a moment of failure for me. I feared that my future and everything I had worked for over the course of my life would be in jeopardy. I’m not rich but I wasn’t going to risk my future ...any further, so I reached out to Mr. James Sullivan. I found Mr. Sullivan by googling for family violence lawyers. It was a Sunday and his name popped up showing that he worked on Sundays, so I gave him a call and we spent about an hour talking on that Sunday evening. Mr. Sullivan turned out to be the best decision I made in 2018. I told him I would be pleading not guilty and he told me he could possibly get the case dismissed, which was a relief to my stress. We went through 4 settings together, which required little to no work on my part. At each of our meetings Mr. Sullivan showed great professionalism, positivity, dependability, passion, and most of all he showed me that I could trust him. We talked about life, goals, and achievements. He shared his experiences and wisdom with me, recommending changes to certain aspects of my life. Overall, James Sullivan not only helped me legally, but he connected with me as a human being, and for that I will be forever grateful. My case was dismissed in exchange for community service and I left this experience as a better person. I 100% and wholeheartedly recommend Mr. James Sullivan as an attorney.

Thank you Jesse for your kind review. I am pleased that the DA agreed to dismiss the case with some community service. I hope the rest of your life is smooth sailing.

James Sullivan is the man to hire to get the job done!

I am well known as a sports trainer, and I work with top high school, college and professional athletes to improve their game. Never in my life did I think I'd ever be charged with a crime, and certainly not domestic violence, but this year I was. I was innocent, but that didn't matter to the police.... The charge alone could have destroyed my life. In my field of work, reputation is everything. We all know from the news how a family violence charge can quickly end an athlete's career; well, it can also end the career of a coach or a trainer. The night of the incident my wife and I were out eating and drinking with friends. My wife drank too much, got drunk, and then jealous when she thought I was talking with another woman. When we got home, one thing led to another and I left to spend he night somewhere else. I found out later she had called the police and said I had hit her and knocked her down. That was a lie but the police claimed she had a large bump on her forehead. By the time she came to her senses the next morning. it was too late. The charges had already been filed. I was worried about what would happen. I searched for a lawyer online, found Jim Sullivan and read his reviews. I called his office, spoke with his associate Nancy Botts and made an appointment. We all met together at his office, discussed the case and I hired them. It proved to be the right decision. Jim Sullivan represented me in court and fought to get the false charges dismissed. I missed one court setting because of a flight delay returning to Houston, but Mr. Sullivan managed to keep me on bond and got a one week reset for my next appearance. Once he got the police photos of my wife, he spoke to he about them. It was then she realized the "bump" on her forehead was just a vein that had popped out because of her botox injections. It happens sometimes when she is stressed out. Mr. Sullivan told the prosecutor he would fight the case at trial if he didn't dismiss it, and the prosecutor dismissed it. I am very thankful to Jim Sullivan for all he did. He saved my career. He is a good man, lawyer and now friend. I will definitely recommend him to friends, family and anyone in need of a good criminal defense attorney.

Excellent Criminal defense Lawyer

I am so glad that I met Attorney Jim Sullivan. He was very helpful and he calmed my nerves when I first met him.He spent over three hours talking to me and my father about ways to get my case resolved. He didn't have to go this late but he took his time and explained everything thoroughly to me and ex...plained step-by-step what needed to be done. Miss Nancy Botts, another lawyer that works with Jim, was also amazing and talked to me and my family about my case. She went out of her way to come and meet me because I was not allowed to stay with my family during the case. So she met with me and went over everything that happened and also met with my family and also wrote down what happened and took evidence of everything that went on. I was very nervous because I was facing a 1st degree felony of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon family violence. And that could've meant five years to life in prison. Never in my wildest dreams did I every imagine I would be in such a situation but fortunately Jim and Nancy saw the good in me and wanted to help me out.Because of their exhaustive and meticulous work my case was no billed by the grand jury in Fort Bend County. I appreciate everything Jim and Nancy have done and I will recommend them to anybody who inquires about criminal defense attorneys. Because of them I have my freedom and I will be able to continue to pursue my life’s goal in grad school.

Best decision ever

I Googled "Houston family violence lawyer" and Mr. Sullivan came up. I did my research and was very satisfied with his ratings and case results. I decided to call him and unlike other offices the lawyer is the one that answers! That's a first, and when I spoke to him the first time he made me feel li...ke I could trust him. My husband is a habitual felon. This is his 2nd family violence case so he was looking at anywhere from 25 years to life in prison. However, Mr. Sullivan was able to get the case reduced down to a misdemeanor and my husband will only do a few days in the county! It went from an enhanced felony habitual case all the way down to a misdemeanor. Thank you Jim for everything you did for my husband. Everyone that asks me if I know a good lawyer I will give them your card.

Mr. Sullivan got my Assault family violence charges dismissed in Montgomery County. Thank you!

Upon being side swiped with an assault family violence charge from the district attorney in Montgomery County, I immediately took action. First of all let me state that the charges were bogus and secondly I am a very busy and well respected business owner who would definitely feel an impact in time, ...money and reputation if I were convicted. I went to my first court appearance thinking it would get dismissed because I was innocent. Of course, not being a regular of the criminal “justice” system, I was dead wrong; and, in fact, I was completely beside myself with the offer I was handed by the prosecutor! It was absolutely crazy. I did not take this lightly as I am sure, and would hope, most innocent people would not. I wanted the best representation I could have; and, after being in court that first time and being approached in person by various court-appointed attorneys, various floating other counsel (or cronies as I would so frankly put it), I knew right then and there that I wanted an attorney I could trust. I was not a number or a case to be shoved through the highly packed court room! I was not an income opportunity for those in there offering me aid! Anyhow, I entered a not guilty plea and immediately started sifting through defense attorneys I found online. I have always been a good judge of character and I follow my instincts to a tee. Of the three attorneys I had decided to go talk with, James Sullivan was #1 on my list. People let me tell you, I have unfortunately been in this position only one other time in the last 20 years where I needed a high quality professional to defend myself against the government, and learned my lesson the first time. Just like anything else in life, you get what you pay for. If you find yourself in a position where you need an expert, believe me that going the plea route or least costly for the moment will come right back around in a hurry and make you regret not taking the time to defend yourself with the highest quality defense you can muster. I am not saying Sullivan is expensive; in fact, his fees are comparable in cost with other defense attorneys I researched. What I am saying is that Sullivan is a man of his word and has character and clout in his profession, and I felt like I had made the right decision with my choice in hiring him throughout the entire process. He prepared well for my second court setting and stood strong for me. As he explained, Montgomery County has a “rocket docket”, meaning that cases are automatically set for trial after the second setting if they are not worked out. That trial setting is exactly two weeks later. In other words, from the first court setting to a trial is only one month. Imagine finding and hiring a good trial lawyer that quickly. Fortunately, I did just that. Unlike other attorneys in court who were negotiating plea deals for their clients, Sullivan was adamant that if the State did not dismiss the charges then he did not want to waste any further time and to just set it for a jury trial. Sullivan was not bluffing, however I preferred to resolve the case without having a criminal record and without the public spectacle of a trial, and I also did not want to participate in the BIPP program because I certainly was not a batterer. Ultimately, Sullivan forced the prosecutor to back down and got them to agree to dismiss the case after I attended 18 couples counseling sessions with my girlfriend. As we were planning to begin counseling anyway, that was not even a problem or an inconvenience. Six months later, the State dismissed the charges. It is sometimes easy to get into a position that could seriously affect you for a very long period of time. It is much more difficult to reverse the impact of events afterwards. Keep your head up, hire Attorney Sullivan and complete your goal of not becoming part of the system. Thank you so much Mr. Sullivan for your effort and care with my case. ~Satisfied Client and Business Owner, Montgomery Count
