Excellent lawyer
Cynthia Henley was my court appointed attorney. I really didn't know what to expect as this was my very first interaction with the law and attorneys. I have to say she is a phenomenal attorney. She was well prepared for my case and she prepared me well for what was needed to have this case dismissed....

Cynthia Henley
Excellent Attorney, she really helped me out and for a Court Appointed i couldn't have asked for better. I will also use her for a private attorney if i need one. She explained everything step by step never once did she try to rush me along!!!
Thank you for your post! I enjoyed representing you and appreciate that you were able to communicate with me and follow my requests that resulted in the dismissal of your case. Client cooperation is so important. Best of luck in your future!!

Lack of follow up and investigation
We'd hired Cynthia Henley in regard to domestic dispute. After we paid, we really had no follow up with Cynthia. As a matter of fact, we had to repeatedly follow up with her to ask questions / ask her to dig deeper into issues. She repeatedly showed up 1-2 hours late every time we had a court date....

Horrible
I was illegally arrested and detained in Harris County. While incarcerated, I was appointed with Ms. Henley who tried to convince me to accept a guilty plea. Fortunately, I could afford bail but not an attorney. Therefore I studied my case, myself. During my studies, I realized how completely innocen...
Because the writer has chosen not to provide details allowing me to respond fully (and it appears based on the writing that I still represent this person since they say they cannot afford a lawyer - generally, the court will not appoint a different lawyer to someone after an initial appointment and it is very rare that a client will be allowed to represent themselves), I cannot provide a full review / explanation of the client's situation. However, I can say the following: I am required by law to convey any and all offers the prosecutor makes to the client for the client to make a decision whether to accept or reject the offer. In addition, I am required to review the evidence with the client (reports, testing, pictures, statements, videos, etc.) and to give the client my professional opinion about the strength of the State's case and any possible defenses the client has based on my 29 years experience. Being in custody is not pleasant for a multitude of reasons including the fact that one is in a holding cell with many loud people around while they are trying to listen to their lawyer about their case. In addition, people in the cell often try to give "advice" to the client on what they should do - and many of those trying to affect the client's decision do NOT have the client's best interest in mind nor do they have the legal expertise or experience to be providing advice. When I review a case with a client, I am reading to them what is in the State's file. Many times, clients do not agree with a great deal of what is in the reports and statements. My reading the available information to the client does not mean I agree with any of it - I am just sharing information. If I am just appointed that day and am reviewing with the client, my analysis will be based on the content of the report, the information provided by the client, and logic and experience. However, I was not at the scene / situation so I do not actually know what is true / not true / partially true, etc. I am just evaluating based on what I have been provided. I do not try to "convince" anyone to plead guilty. I do not try to convince anyone to take their case to trial, either. After I provide all the information to the client, the client makes the decision. I have tried many, many cases over the years and am happy to place a case on the trial docket and go to trial for a client. Whether the case is pled out or goes to trial has no positive or negative effect on me - the only one who will be affected is the client who may be taking a risk by going to trial. So, the bottom line I can say about this rating is that the client may not have been happy with my assessment of the case based on the information that I had, but I can state unequivocally that I did not try to convince this, or any client, to plead guilty.
"I have known Cynthia since I became an attorney 19 years ago. She is truly a force of nature in the courtroom and an outstanding advocate for her clients. I highly recommend this attorney."
"I endorse this lawyer because she always takes the time to give the answer to questions in a well thought out manner, that is knowledgeable, as well as, caring to the questioner. Her knowledge of the law is outstanding and she will do research, if needed, to properly answer the question. She is also not afraid to correct any of her peers on any legal points necessary, and does so in a very positive and professional manner."
"Cynthia is a force to be reckoned with. Her knowledge of the law and processes makes her methods and strategies second to none. Her presence in the courtroom places the State's prosecutors on edge, because Cynthia will take the time to guide less experienced advocates through the smoke of prosecution. One would do well choosing Cynthia to be their voice."
"I have the pleasure of having Cynthia Henley as my designated mentor. I wouldn't be half the lawyer I am today without Cynthia's mentoring and guidance. She is a true believer who fights extremely hard for her clients. She knows how to beat cases and she routinely gets dismissals. I can't recommend Cynthia enough for you to hire her as your lawyer!"
"Ms. Henley has the ability and the experience to quickly assess and solve difficult situations encountered by criminal defendants. I endorse her without reservation."
"A prolific and insightful contributor here at Avvo, Ms. Russell Henley's long list of endorsements indicates the respect she has earned among her peers. I endorse Cynthia Russell Henley."
"I endorse this lawyer. His advice and legal answers to complex issues demonstrate rare legal acumen seen in an attorney."
"I know this Cynthia to be a knowledgeable and kind attorney who spends time offering free advise to help others, I endorse this attorney!"
"Cynthia works hard for each client. She is knowledgeable and experienced in all types of criminal cases and not afraid to put the pressure on the prosecution. I would want her in my corner if I am caught up with legal trouble."
"I endorse Cynthia Russell. She has demonstrated a great command of both Texas Criminal Law and Procedure, and has demonstrated she has the knowledge and ability to fully, and zealously, advocate for her clients."
"Ms. Henley's contributions and advice are always on point. She is an asset to this website and the legal profession."
"Cynthia is tough, smart, and tenacious. She zealously represents her clients and achieves excellent results for them. I wholeheartedly endorse Cynthia Henley."
"I endorse this lawyer. Based upon my reviews of answers Ms. Henley has provided on AVVO. She clearly understands what she is talking about and what a client might be facing in Harris County. Calling her would be a good decision if you had criminal matters in the Houston area."
"I would reccomend Cynthia to any client thinking of retaining an attorney. She is an avid contributor to the avvo community. Her legal knowledge is spot on. Give her a call first, you won't be disappointed."
"I have learned a lot from Attorney Henley on criminal defense strategy. Her responses on the Q/A forums are very informative. She is a well respected member of the legal community."
