Ben is the most knowledgable, helpful, and compassionate lawyer I've ever crossed paths with.
Ben helped guide me through a really horrible and emotional work situation. He was dilligent with communication and gave me a lot of helpful and useful information. He is an incredibly kind person and I could tell he genuinely cared for me and my well being. I did not end up using his services but he was able to give me resources and point me in the right direction to navigate my specific situation. I would highly recommend working with him if your sitiuation warrants representation and you're looking for not only knowledge of the law but peace of mind and compassion.
Ben Kwan - expert counsel on employment law topics
I connected with Ben for an employment law consultation and was extremely impressed with his graciousness, frank and wise counsel and his overall approach to life in corporate America. I appreciate Ben as an attorney who gives all attorneys a good name.
In or out of the courtroom, my ability to share a compelling story is a skill I use to advocate for clients facing problems with a former or current employer. Prior to law school I honed those skills as a television news anchor and reporter with CBS and FOX affiliates in Michigan and worked with a South African national news network in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
At my law firm, Haller Kwan LLP, I represent employees who have been treated illegally in the workplace. My empathy for workers was nurtured from an early age. My father is an immigrant from China. He arrived with the proverbial ‘nothing but the clothes on his back.’ To him, work was the only path to a better life and – quite frankly – dignity. To this day, my father serves as a role model for my advocacy.
I work hard to put my clients first, and at ease. To me, it’s personal. Spending extra time to ensure a client understands the legal process, making the additional phone call or sending the detailed email, are all part my commitment to help my clients reclaim their dignity and move forward with their lives.
I am the President on the Executive Board of the Minnesota Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and maintain close ties to the Twin Cities media community socially and as a contributing columnist at Minnesota Lawyer. And, from time to time, if you’re lucky, you’ll find me slinging chop suey at my family’s Chinese restaurant in Eden Prairie.

Phone Call
Just from a quick phone consultation Ben was professional and honest. I talked to another lawyer prior to Ben that actually sounded like a car salesman.
I just need advice and an honest opinion I got it from Ben even though I didn't work with him direct, a 15 minute phone call told me he is a man of honor, and cares.

Ben Kwans review
Ben is one of the most outstanding phenomenal lawyers I have ever hired. His attention to detail along with his due diligence to find out extra information and follow up and ensure that the clients needs are met and exceeded his one of his cardinal principles. He takes the time to understand the situation and places itself in your shoes to understand your standpoint and really relates to you. He follows up on time and follows through every time

Competent, Knowledgeable, Articulate and Result Oriented
I RECOMMEND BEN 100%
In my case Ben carefully and methodically understood my situation and provided clarity to the legalities associated.
His process was to seek and present various alternatives for my consideration.
Ultimately, finding solutions I would never have considered, supported the decision with facts and I ultimately received 50% more than I could have expected as a result.
His pricing was clear, his effort was above and beyond the fees, he saw it through, he followed up....he cared!
I recommend Ben and will hire him again if necessary.

A rockstar for the underdog.
I am beyond happy with my experience with Ben. I'm not sure where to begin. First, though, during my initial consult session, Ben went above and beyond to understand my situation and to confirm whether there were legal grounds. I was astonished by this; I was expecting a relatively generic and quick review. Throughout our entire engagement, Ben listened attentively and out of genuine concern for my situation.
During the process, Ben provided sincere advice and counsel, even if it wasn't "stuff" I wanted to hear. Ben delivered loads of insight to make sure I understood all angles and was incredibly open, responsive and collaborative. As a result, the outcome was positive.
Ben is a rockstar. I'd recommend Ben time and time again for all employment law matters, especially in cases where you are the underdog going up against well-funded organizations.

Moving forward with gratitude
I have never needed a lawyer for anything in my life, until I did.
The circumstances of a “Me Too” case is confusing, intimidating, emotional and overwhelming. Like being lost in a haunted forest. I couldn’t imagine a way out of the fog.
The first time I met Ben to review the difficult details of my legal dilemma, I was terrified. Being in the situation was bad enough but having to explain it to a stranger was horrifying. It wasn’t long into the conversation before I felt completely at ease with him. His was compassionate, understanding and empathetic. I knew immediately that I could trust him implicitly.
My situation was complicated, and I couldn’t see the forest through the trees. As we began to work through the details of my dispute, Ben quickly identified the crux of my case. Confirming what I had felt all along – that what had happened to me wasn’t just wrong, it was illegal. When I broke down, he kept me focused on the big picture and my goals. He was a sounding board when I needed guidance, he pushed me when I needed pushing and he successfully got me through it.
I certainly hope nobody has to endure a legal battle with an employer, but if you do, you can count on Ben to guide you through the complexities of a legal claim with expertise, dedication and warmth.
I have a long road ahead of me but I am forever grateful for Ben and everything he has done to provide a path to healing.

Words cannot describe how much Ben helped me!
I cannot overstate, and I struggle even to articulate, how much Ben and his partner, Ted, helped me. From the moment I reached out to him, Ben treated me with respect and dignity, taking my case seriously and providing valuable advice long before we even signed any documents.
Once the legal process for my case began to unfold -- what we could do, how they would likely respond to each of those actions, what our next steps would be, etc. -- Ben predicted each and every progression with stunning accuracy. At each crossroad, he provided honest, unfiltered counsel that allowed me to make the decisions that served me best. At no point did I ever feel pressured to go one way or another, e.g. to do what might have been easiest or most beneficial for him as an attorney. Instead, Ben laid out my options for me as a client and I knew, without any doubt, that I would have his full support no matter which path I chose. In the end, we avoided filing suit and reached a sizable settlement.
The fact of the matter is this: regardless of the amount of money I received from my former employer, it is infinitely more than what I would have received otherwise. Had I not contracted Haller Kwan LLP, I would have received absolutely nothing, and been left with an interminable feeling of emptiness.
Thanks to Ben, not only did I receive what I believe to be fair compensation for my wrongful termination but also a renewed sense of dignity and self-worth. I knew I had been wronged by my former employer. Ben believed in me and my case. He took a chance on me by working on a contingency basis. He fought for me and worked his tail off to ensure I got what I deserved.
Hire this man. You will not regret it.

Outstanding Advice!
I was referred to Ben Kwan by another top-rate attorney, who said Ben was "one of the top two employment attorneys in the Twin Cities". After my initial consultation with Ben, I am convinced he knows employment law inside and out! He asked all the right questions. I work in Human Resources, and am very familiar with employment law. Ben was spot-on. I suggest anyone with an employment issue contact him, he's sharp, he's courteous AND helpful!

Highly recommended
I was deeply impressed by all aspects of my consultation with Ben.
I was dealing with a difficult formal complaint of racial and gender discrimination, and I came to Ben looking for legal information and professional advice on how best to engage the situation. Ben asked questions that got to the heart of my concern, listened very carefully, and offered exceptionally practical advice.
From the ease of use of his website, the speed with which he responded to email, the clarity and transparency of his fees, to the thoughtful, warm, and highly reflective style of our consultation -- I was thoroughly pleased with the time I spent with him, and recommend him highly.

Great Guidance
First, I want to thank you for your time. Ben is a very down to earth guy. He listened to my story very carefully and asked the correct questions when needed. He broke down the law in layman's term so there wouldn't be any confusion on my half. He is very understanding and guides you through. After hearing your story, he would give you your options. He would also let you know if you have a case or not. I couldn't recommend him enough. Thank you Ben for allowing us to move forward without leaving anything in question.

Great experience! Knowledgable and responsive
I was referred to Ben by a close friend and I cannot say enough good things about him. He made a very tough situation tolerable and took a huge load off of my shoulders. He explained all of my options to me and answered all of my questions. It is clear he is very knowledgable in the law but also considers real-life issues and takes all issues into account when giving advice. He was also extremely responsive and would get back to me very quickly.
I would absolutely recommend him to family and friends.

Professional, honest and encouraging
I hired Benjamin Kwan to help me with my former employer. I worked for a non-profit for over 21 years and they fired me for the lamest reason and then did not want to pay me my back vacation time or my comp time. They turned my worled upside down. I didn’t know what or where to turn. Then someone sent me Mr Kwan’s name. So I filled out their questionnaire online and made an appointment to meet with Mr Kwan. I was very nervous going to our first meeting but Mr Kwan made me feel comfortable and he was very organized. He listened to me and gave me his thoughts on which way to go on my case. He always let me make the last decision after letting me know how he would like to proceed. I always felt confident in his choices, he really would think things over before proceeding. I would highly recommend Benjamin Kwan as an employment attorney! I was very impressed with every step of the way. Very Professional, Honest, and organized.

Knowledgeable and Effective
I was a client with Haller Kwan in a wrongful termination suit against a former employer. I brought my situation to 7 firms in Minneapolis, and 1 in Chicago, seeking counsel and information. All 8 of them offered to take my case- but I am VERY GLAD that I chose Haller Kwan.
My situation was complicated, and along the way Ben and Ted were always able to explain the relevant circumstances of the law and educate me on the possibilities of how things would play out. These guys taught me a lot about the law and how it affects me. Most importantly, they were very conscious of my best interests given the many years in my career that I have left.
We ended up targeting and attaining a favorable settlement outcome that has allowed me to rid myself of a negative situation, recover from the financial damages caused by my employer's unethical behavior, and point blank put the entire dilemma in the past. There were many moments this could have turned into a 'headline case' with big-time exposure, and other litigators would have pushed me deeper into legal battles for the sake of their own PR. Haller Kwan respected that was not my wish- and yet were still skilled enough to stand for my rights and get a great outcome.
I would confidently say that anybody considering their services can depend on a team that will be dedicated to your needs, your feedback, and will pursue a goal that is truly aligned with your life. That doesn't mean they will sugar-coat what may not be great news... but they will certainly be able to explain the facts in a way that is easy for you to understand and make a decision from.

Wrongful termination
Hello, I’m writing this because I went through a long and emotional and frankly unbelievable termination. I was very stunned that I was let go but, Ben and Ted were able to be calm for me in the storm and they were also my voice to a big giant. They found things from my employment that they knew were not handled right. They informed me every step of the way with every phone call, every meeting they always let me know how my case was going. The amount of time they invested was above and beyond any attorney I have known. Even though I went through a terrible termination I gained my confidence back and I definitely was able to move on knowing someone else believed in me and what happened within my workplace. I am truly blessed to have such caring attorneys. I can say that I would recommend Ben and Ted without any hesitation.

Knowledgeable, Practical, Caring
Ben handled a very complex case involving my potential litigation against a major international corporation. After reviewing case law with the corporations attorneys, he was able to avoid lengthy and costly trial. I was pleased with his professionalism in all respects and feel it was extremely cost effective. I would recommend Ben without reservation.

A lawyer that cares? (what?)
Lawyers are often a punchline, but Ben turns those ideas on their heads.
Anything I had heard about lawyers led me to believe they are nasty, impersonal, charges-you-for-everything and at the end of the day not really fighting for your best interest, just your dollars. When I found myself in the stressful and consuming position of struggling with employer discrimination, contacting a lawyer at first seemed impossible. I didn't even want to talk to one. But I took a breath and got a (free) consultation.
From that consultation onward (which went way longer than the 20 minute slot allotted), Ben proved over and over that he was personable. I'm an emotional person, and I don't really hide that. The highs and lows (and treachery) of litigation with your employer while still working there are so intense. I almost gave up a few times, and Ben listened to me again and again. He was very patient with my millions of questions, my uncertainties, my rants. He explained every single thing to me along the way and seemed more than happy to educate me about the muddled process. It was GREAT. Well, the situation was really stressful and terrible, but Ben was very supportive the whole way.
There was one point in the process when I lost some trust. I read into some conversations, there were pieces of honest miscommunication. I had some not-so-great feedback. He sensed this immediately (totally in tune with his client) and encouraged me to come forward. He spoke with me on the phone for 45 minutes. I told him my feedback and he was AMAZINGLY receptive. He thanked me more than once, explained his piece and overall really took care of the professional relationship. At the end of the conversation, I told him it was only because he's so approachable and warm that I was able to give feedback at all (normally I'm kind of shy about that kind of thing).
Hopefully I will never need his service again, but I know whom I'm calling if I do.

Guidance and strength when I was close to giving up
When I first contacted Ben I wasn't sure if I had a case or if I could afford to pursue my former employer even if I did. He took the time to learn about my situation, review the docs, and make a recommendation on how to make the best of my situation. After taking over, Ben stood our ground and was much more successful than I thought we could be. He also took the time to ensure that I was on board every step of the way. I would highly recommend Ben.
