About Robert

Learn Robert’s areas of practice.

I am passionate about helping my clients with whatever matters most to them. For more than two decades, I have focused my practice on helping real people facing criminal charges, probation violations, professional licensing matters, Personal Protection Orders (PPOs), and forfeiture matters. I have represented clients in state and federal courts in over 50 counties across the state of Michigan, from Detroit to Grand Rapids, St. Joseph to Petoskey, and Cheboygan to Monroe, and I have earned the respect of judges and prosecutors throughout the state by zealously and ethically advocating for my clients.

Early in my legal career, I clerked for more than two years in the 3rd Circuit Court in downtown Detroit. I then represented clients as a solo practitioner in East Lansing, focusing my practice primarily in criminal law and family law. Subsequently, after joining larger firms, I represented clients throughout the state of Michigan charged with drunk driving and other criminal charges and defended physicians, nurses, and other health professionals in criminal and professional licensing matters.

I find my work very rewarding because I get to help real people every day. I also get to put my biology and psychology degrees to work alongside my law degree, which brings another dimension to my representation. I am very proud of the difference that I have been able to make in the lives of my clients.

Legal Representation for Misdemeanor Counts of Dogs at Large Cases
I had been charged with four misdemeanor counts of Dog-Runs at Large and one misdemeanor count of Dog-Unlicensed in the 54-B District Court. And it was thankfully discovered by Mr. Andretz that there were two additional misdemeanor cases in the 55th District Court of which I was previously unaware. I originally had a public defender representing me in the 54B District Court cases before I made the decision to hire an attorney. The public defender did not represent my best interest. She did not ask the Court to consider the timing and circumstances of the charges coinciding to my dogs getting loose. She did not make any effort to order any discovery and blatantly told me to plead guilty, which involved penalties ranging from $500/ charge to 90 days in jail per charge. I realized I needed to hire a defence attorney and was referred to Mr. Andretz through a mutual colleague, who happens to be a client of Fraser Trebilcock. I was immediately impressed with his professionalism, expertise, and dedication to my case. Mr. Andretz possesses a deep understanding of the law, and his strategic approach to my defense was nothing short of compassionate. He took the time to listen to my concerns, thoroughly investigated every aspect of my case, and developed a solid defense strategy tailored to my specific circumstances. Throughout the entire process, Mr. Andretz kept me informed and reassured, providing clear explanations and guidance every step of the way. His communication skills are exceptional, and I always felt confident that my case was in good hands. When it came time for court proceedings, Mr. Andretz demonstrated outstanding courtroom presence and legal expertise. He skillfully presented my case, and ultimately secured a favorable outcome on my behalf. All of the misdemeanor charges in both Courts were dismissed and three of the misdemeanor charges were reduced to Civil Infranctions with fines. His dedication, expertise, and commitment to achieving the best possible outcome for his clients truly sets him apart. If you're in need of a top-notch defense attorney, look no further than Fraser Trebilcock. They are simply the best in the business and the attorneys at Fraser Trebilcock have other areas of expertise that may be able to meet your needs if you need legal services.

Robert is more than a great lawyer, he is a great human being.
Hello. I hope that this review will help anyone in need of the best Criminal Lawyer. My situation started in September of 2023. I was charged with a high BAC. I just knew this could possibly stunt my growth on living a normal productive life. Robert is a very focused and compassionate in what he does. I never felt uncomfortable with him, and followed all his advice, no questions asked. I never felt as if I was just paying money for some mediocre lawyer. Friends and family all asked me when is this going to be over. Robert never gave up. So it took time, his time and efforts. He is always proactive. He cares about his clients during and after representation. He wants to not only get the best result for his clients, but also a better way of life. Now back to my situation. I was looking at a high BAC .297, refusal to give a breath analysis, license suspension and possibly jail time. After vigorously working on my case, Robert and the Prosecutor agreed on a plea deal for me. The result was 24 months in the Veteran Administration treatment program with the 17th District court. Restricted driving privileges for work, medical appointments, and legal obligations. Fines were very reasonable. I will be able to have my license reinstated after 90 days . He is more than an attorney, Robert cares about not only your legal situation, but also the well being of your livelihood. I will always remember all he has done for me, and also his passion to keep to the communities safer, as well as myself. I will definitely stay in contact with Robert as my new journey begins. In short, he's the Best! I wish Robert all the best in his endeavors, as he does for me.

Great Attorney and always ready to explain in detail
In June 2023, I was arrested for Misdemeanor OWI in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Being from out of state, it was very stressful and Robert took all the time in the world to explain to me the process and even put me at ease with the situation. The odds were against me, High BAC, 0.19. No one was injured, and luckily it was my first arrest, so I got booked for OWI. I found Robert by looking through this website, and I felt sharing my experience might help someone else. Robert has extensive knowledge of the 47th District Court and how Judge Parker operates. He suggested I do some pre-trial assessments, MADD VIP, Highway Safety Class, Relapse prevention classes and self-testing for alcohol while I was awaiting trial. At first, I was worried this would all be in vain. But Robert managed to prove to the Prosecutor that I was doing my part and actually a good person. Judge Parker allowed me to appear before court by Zoom for the whole trial. In large part, due to Robert's and the prosecutor's suggestions. In the end, Robert got me a plea deal for Operating While Visibly Impaired. It is the lowest of the misdemeanor DUI charges. I was sentenced to 30 hours community service (in my hometown) and 12 months probation, which may be cut in half for good behavior. No jail time! This is the best outcome I could have hoped for. Robert answered my calls day and night, no matter how many times I asked the same questions over again. He would stay calm and make sure I was at ease with everything I was going through. He became more of a friend than an attorney in my eyes. Although I never wish to need his services again, I would absolutely call Robert the minute a situation like this would happen. I truly believe you will be best served by hiring Robert. He goes over and above for his clients. If you follow his guidance, you will not regret it!

Attorney- Robert J. Andretz
Mr. Robert J. Andretz, helped me get through a time of confusion when I needed a attorney. He was familiar with the Livingston County Court system and guided me in to what to expect. He was available for phone calls when I had questions and concerns about my case. When it came time for the end, he explained what of each plea meant. I felt comfortable sending emails and he would respond in a timely matter. Again, this was in Livingston County which was my location . This was not a DUI, it was a self-defense case.

Robert got me a deal others could not.
2023 was one of the most stressful years of my life. My son and his friends were being bullied and nobody was doing anything about it so I walked over to have a word with this kid. What happened next was a nightmare. Stories were made up and reported to the police and I found myself with 3 charges and 1 of them was assault and battery! I went through two attorney’s before I found Robert. The first attorney listened to my story but when the charges were filed he wasn’t taking it serious and did not want to take me in for my arraignment. The second attorney was a little better and was able to get a plea deal but I felt he could do better, but whenever I asked him to try some things he was always talking me out of it. I knew that this second attorney was not the person I wanted to help me through one of the worst times of my life. I continued to search Avvo and finally found Robert Andretz, with Lewis & Dickstein. The incident happened in Oakland County, City of Auburn Hills and the court was 52-3 district ct in Rochester Hills. Robert gave me so much attention and had such a depth of knowledge that he shared. He told me he could not promise me a better outcome than I currently had, but even so I realized that Robert was the attorney that I needed to help me get through this incredibly difficult process. After discussing it with my wife I hired Robert and I can tell you now that this was perhaps the best money I spent in my entire life, especially considering that Robert did end up getting me a better outcome! Robert suggested a strategy that my previous lawyer never even considered and I am MUCH better off than I would have been. Robert was able to get me a delayed sentencing which means I am on probation for 11 months and if I comply with the terms of the probation the charges will be permanently removed from my record. I still have to pay the fines, do some community service, and whatever else they tell me to do but with everything I was facing I am very happy with the outcome. Another very important point I want to make is I REALLY feel that if I had hired Robert as my first attorney earlier in the process that he would have been able to get an even better outcome. My suggestion for you is to hire Robert as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Even if there is a chance you will be facing charges in the future I would call Robert and you will quickly find out why I have taken the time to post such a detailed review. Do EVERYTHING Robert suggests. He will give you specific tasks to do and I found that each one has an important purpose. This man puts his heart and soul into what he does for a living. You can tell he is passionate about his work and he has been an inspiration to me in that regards. I wish you the best luck, but don’t rely on luck alone, hire Robert. -Very satisfied client.

OWI, LARA, HPRP-Rob is the man!
In 2020 I got an OWI. My original lawyer was not doing a great job with the case so I hired Rob Andretz to assist. Rob did a wonderful job helping me through the OWI case. He recommended several things that my first lawyer did not that eventually led to me receiving NO PROBATION and only having to take an online course and pay a small fine. 3 years later I received a letter from LARA asking me to be evaluated for HPRP (a program intended to help health professionals with true substance abuse disorders). I did some research and realized how invasive and costly this program can be. I knew I did not have any substance abuse problems, but after researching about how this program works I decided to once again hire Rob to help guide me through the process. While navigating through the HPRP intake process, Rob was able to explain how everything from the initial phone call, to the substance abuse evaluation would go. He is an excellent lawyer who makes time to take your calls, answer your texts, and help put your mind at ease while going through a stressful time. Rob's experience in the healthcare law field over they years has allowed him to become familiar with many of the HPRP evaluators. When I received my list of 3 evaluators, Rob immediately let me know who to stay away from and more importantly who the best evaluator was to receive our desired outcome. Today I just heard back that I do not have to undertake this long tedious program-and I credit that to my fabulous lawyer, Rob Andretz. Thank you for all of your help.

I got my life back!
Rob Andretz was more than great and I highly recommend him and his firm! I had a probation violation in Southfield, MI (46th District Court - Judge Sheila Johnson) from 2011. I was not a resident of Michigan when I received these charges. I reached out to the court myself in early 2023 and found out I was classified as abscounded for the last 12 years and a bench warrant out for my arrest. I knew then I needed an attorney to handle this for me because I did not want to go to jail. I had a probation violation on a possession of marijuana, DUI, possession of a firearm under the influence...all misdemeanor charges but up to a year in jail. My attorney advised me of exactly what I needed to do to take care of this matter. Three months later June 2023, he was able to have my drug charge removed from my record under the 7411, no jail time, the same judge from 2011 released me from probation. Rob was available whenever I contacted him by phone, text and email. He kept in touch with me on a regular basis and made me feel totally secure that he was working on my behalf in my best interests. I have finally been able to get a driver's license again. As soon I qualify for expungement of my record, I will be contacting Rob again to assist me with that.

Misdemeanor dismissal
I was charged with a misdemeanor for driving with an expired license and my case was at the 52-4 district court, Troy, MI. This would be a criminal case and would have a great impact on my H1b work visa. Robert helped me reduce this to a civil infraction ( Fail to Use Due care and caution) and got the criminal case dismissed. He showed great professionalism throughout the process and had the patience to answer all my doubts. I was very comfortable dealing with him and I would highly recommend him.

Criminal offense/healthcare professional licensing
I would highly recommend Rob Andretz to represent you. I found myself facing 2 misdemeanor charges in the 12th District Court of Jackson County and as a healthcare professional this was extremely stressful. He was able to get me a very favorable outcome and I am very pleased. He was also able to put me at ease during a very trying time. I can't thank him enough for his expertise and professionalism.

Medical Board Complaint
Robert Andretz served as my attorney for four years while dealing with Michigan Medical Board Complaints against my license. When the state finally issued their complaints, Mr. Andretz was able to call me after hours on a Friday night to see how I was coping with it. That call helped alleviate a lot of anxiety I had built up of the unknown expectations of the Michigan Medical Board statements, and ultimately allowed the settlement to be a monetary one. This meant a lot to me to allow me to continue to practice medicine without the loss of board certification and loss of insurance accreditation. He prepared me thoroughly for a hearing we eventually did not require. Mr. Andretz was the consummate professional and his personal knowledge of the personnel and workings of the Medical Board made a huge difference in my case. Any health professional with a board complaint would benefit from having Mr. Andretz on their legal team. Chapman Law Group has a strong voice for justice with Mr. Robert Andretz.

RN reinstatement
I hired Rob in June of 2021 to guide me through the RN reinstatement process. I am very pleased with his performance. He is very knowledgeable of the entire process. If a person follows Robs instruction to a tee and works with him, I am confident they will have great results as I did. I was reinstated in May of 2022. Rob is a great guy and gets results. He will be the first Attorney I turn to if ever needed in the future.

Excellent OWI Attorney
Robert is an excellent attorney for health care professionals that have been charged with operating while intoxicated (OWI) or other related offenses. He was excellent in explaining the process to me and making me aware of the options I had. Robert was able to handle my case in Westland, Michigan with confidence and professionalism. I was very concerned about maintaining my health care profession license, and Robert walked me through each step that would occur and how I could mitigate any negative actions against my license. My legal outcome, and licensing outcome, was more positive than I had originally thought it would be, and I am so glad Robert was my choice for guiding me through this process. Robert is an excellent communicator with his clients and he makes you feel like he actually cares about you as a person. Also, Robert will help you report your conviction to the Michigan State Board of Nursing and show you how to handle the HPRP referral process. I highly recommend Robert to other health care professionals who are facing OWI charges or other alcohol/drug related offenses in Michigan.

Legal Services Rendered
I recently utilized the services of the Chapman Law group. Specifically, I employed the legal council of Rob Andretz to represent me on a legal issue that in my opinion is driven by somewhat archaic laws being enforced by the DEQ. Rob is a thoughtful and well versed attorney who was able to navigate through this legal issue I experienced in the Grand Traverse area and the 86th District Court through perseverance and clear understanding of the legal system. I appreciate that Rob took the time to thoroughly research the details surrounding my case as well as opportunities to present options that met my expressed outcome when we initially discussed my case. After understanding my concern and completing his research, Rob successfully worked with opposing council to mitigate my issue and arrive at a favorable result for my case. I would highly recommend Rob and the Chapman legal team.

First Offense DUI
Healthcare Professional in-training with a limited educational license. Charged with DUI, first offense. The details of the event were not in my favor, as the situation was an accident involving a stop-sign and a BAC of 0.13. I was completely at a loss about how to proceed after this happened. I was worried about my professional license, career, everything and anything. I researched lawyers and came across Mr. Andretz pretty quickly. His knowledge of the legal system was demonstrated by setting reasonable expectations for me given my situation, educating me on the process patiently, communicating with the court and the prosecutor on my behalf, and then preparing me for sentencing. He was thoughtful, empathetic, super flexible and available for all of my anxious questions. He takes into consideration who you are, and makes sure the court understands your character. He encourages you to take the appropriate steps prior to sentencing, while anticipating what the court and LARA may ask of you. He stays ahead of the game in order to put you in the best position. He also submitted my charges on my behalf to LARA, as he was familiar with that as well. I ended with a reduced charge, no points on my license, no probation, and no jail time. I recommend him strongly and faithfully. Initial Charge: (Operating While Intoxicated). Reduced Charge: (Allowing an Intoxicated Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle). Court (65A District Court in Saint Johns)

I received a call from a LARA investigator stating there was an allegation against my dental license. I found Chapman Law Group searching online and had a phone consultation with Mr. Robert Andretz. He is very professional and knowledgeable! Because of his hard work, I was able to have the opportunity to participate in a supplemental interview with the investigator! I have received the letter from LARA this week. They have determined that a violation of the Public Health Code cannot be substantiated. The investigation is being closed! I am very grateful to have reached out and hired Rob as my attorney!

Very knowledgeable and thorough!
Rob was a life saver for me in my time of need. I was very nervous and had no idea what to expect throughout my situation, but Rob explained everything to me every step of the way and had me prepared. The board of nursing and HPRP can be very intimidating, but Rob’s years of experience and knowledge regarding the process made things go smoothly. Super grateful to have reached out and retained Rob as my attorney!

Registered Nurse
I contacted Rob after receiving a threat from a hospital that hired me through a third party agency for a travel nursing contract. My original start date had gotten pushed back after I found out alarmingly my documentation and my paperwork required for the job position was not submitted properly for the job by my travel agency. After trying to comply with keeping up to date with required documents, I had realized to comply with the full truth my visa not failed to show the accurate information regarding the contract information that was issued to me by the American border patrol through NAFTA. the original message I received from the chief of nursing from the hospital was what had happened to me was enough to form a formal complaint to the board of nursing because I could no longer comply with the job contact I signed to work. terrified, I contacted Rob who wrote a formal letter to the agency and the hospital almost immediately after I received the email. He immediately made my case a priority to stop it from escalating and spoke up on my behalf as my legal representative. At the beginning of everything, he would check in with me and update me on how things could pan out from his knowledgeable experience with nurses having to deal with boards for formal complaints, but as the weeks turned into months we kept in communication in points of time where we carefully decided together what was the best for the situation. after 2 years Rob signed off on my case when no formal complaints were made against my license. Rob remained kind, thoughtful, helpful, and was very calming and trusting in a very high anxiety, moment in my life where I felt like things were going to get really bad. I recommend Rob to anyone, he is truly the best at what he does and wants the best outcomes for his clients. I am so grateful for Rob's support during a rocky time in my life and I know I am not the only one. Thanks for helping me move forward during a difficult time in my life with your knowledge and background. I would recommend him to anyone in the same situation, who needs someone with articulate knowledge and expertise on nursing licenses related issues.

"I first met Robert Andretz many years ago at an advanced seminar on breath testing. I presented at the seminar on alcohol metabolism and Rob stood out as someone who had a much higher than average ability to understand science. As I got to know him many things impressed me, particularly the fact that, like me, he studied biology and earned a science degree at the undergraduate level. This put Rob light-years ahead of most lawyers trying to handle Michigan DUI cases because he already had the ability to “think like a scientist,” not just like a lawyer. This allows Rob to see defenses to things like breath and blood tests that other lawyers would miss. We knew Rob would be an asset to the Firm and eventually we were able to recruit him. Since then Rob has risen in the Firm because of his superior knowledge and ability to successfully represent citizens accused of intoxicated driving. If you have been arrested for DUI, then I highly recommend that you allow Rob to become your advocate!"
