I made a horrible decision and got myself into a situation that resulted in arrest for a hit and run and OWI. This was the first time that I had ever been in any sort of trouble and I honestly had no idea where to begin to fix things. I live in Northville so I found Kelly & Kelly based on their locat...ion, experience with DUIs, and great ratings on Jonathan Paul's proactive program. I applied to be a client and they contacted me within an hour of submission. They were always prompt in their responses to all of my questions and were able to begin helping me almost immediately. They explained to me their approach and thoughts on my case during our initial consultation and gave me confidence that they would take care of me. I am the type of person that does not take these things lightly and really beat myself up about this stupid mistake, but Mike, Jonathan, and the secretary, Tiffany, were very straightforward with me, saying that yes, I made a mistake, but everyone makes mistakes and that they would help to make sure this did not have a detrimental impact moving forward. I immediately started attending AA meetings, volunteering, and began Soberlink twice a day to build my case that this was a one time mistake and that I understood how serious it was. Mike was willing to speak with me the week before and the night before the court date to help calm my nerves and talk me through the events that would most likely take place in court. Since I am a very organized and prepared person who has never even been inside a court room before, this helped immensely. Mike met me immediately in the hallway the morning of and again went through what would be happening in the next few hours. He went and spoke with the prosecutor and unbelievably got the hit and run completely dismissed which left me with only the OWI. He stayed with me throughout the day and also spoke with my probation officer to make sure that I was getting the appropriate probation requirements. I ended up with 9 months of non-reporting probation, 30 days restricted license, 90 days of continuing on twice a day Soberlink, and holiday testing for the remainder of the probation period. The judge also allowed me to travel out-of-state since I had been proactive in the month between the incident and the pre-trial. This result was far better than I had ever imagined or could have obtained on my own. Mike and his team really helped me through one of the hardest things in my life and I cannot thank them enough. Tiffany was also amazing and was my rock throughout this trying month. Any time I had a panic attack or questions that she had probably already heard a thousand times before, she was extremely patient with me and helped to calm my nerves. Throughout this time I was beating myself up every day telling myself how terrible a person I was, but Tiffany always reassured me that everyone makes mistakes and that this incident does not define me and that I need to look forward and use the past as a learning experience. Mike and I worked really well together. He was able to break things down for me so I could be fully aware of what was going on. He gave me great advice which I took and it had me in a better position. Mike and his staff were all very nice and quick to get back to me whenever I had questions. I decided to work with Mike because he was a classmate of my older sister's and it just seemed like the easy way to go but what I got out of the experience was much more than I expected. He was straightforward, let you know all the possible outcomes that could come from your case. He knew my judge an...d I'm guessing a lot of the other judges and could tell me what too expect from him and then if I had decided to do sobriety court, he could tell me about that judge too. He made me feel comfortable because literally on the day that I had court it went exactly as he had told me it was going to go and even had me smiling when I was nervous as all hell. Mike put my mind at ease and made my whole court experience way easier. He told me to put in some work to make myself look more appealing to the judge and I was able to gather information from doctors and therapist to make myself look even better too the judge. Basically, by the time court arrived, I had a binder that I had made myself that outlined every good thing that I had done and was able to show that to my probation officer and it made her make a very reduced sentence because I was organized, had done the work that Mike told me too and put in the time and effort to get myself to a better place in my life. Mike is a wonderful person and wonderful attorney. He's going to tell you how it is, whether it's good or bad but you won't have very many surprises with him. You'll know what you're getting into as soon as he finds out who your judge is and who the prosecuting attorney is, as well as your probation officer.
