Great Representation and Awesome Staff

Mr. Gufford represented me in a Department of Revenue Support case. I owed over $100K but I had become a disabled veteran with a very limited income. They had suspended my drivers license and Mr. Gufford and his staff went to work right away on my case. he completely out performed the DOR's lawyer and won my case. I am eternally grateful for his help. Donna was my assigned paralegal and she kept me up to date with the case and worked very hard on my financial affidavit. On the day of trial, Mr. Gufford had notebooks of the evidence ready for the Court, myself and the Judge. He also had the pertinent case law on the subject. DOR had nothing prepared. Mr. Gufford objected multiple times to questions posed by the DOR lawyer and they were SUSTAINED. The DOR lawyer objected multiple time to questions posed by Mr. Gufford and they were OVERRULED. I highly recommend The Gufford Law Firm if you have any family law issues, especially DOR child support issues.

My name is Joseph Gufford, and I am an attorney who practices primarly in the areas of family law and civil litigation. No lawyer is better than the staff that supports him and I am proud to say that my team is trully my greatest asset. That means being organized and prepared and making sure that everything that should have been done prior to Court, has been done. TEAMWORK is the key.

Joe Gufford, III, is the founding member of The Gufford Law Firm, P.A. in Stuart Florida. Formerly, Mr. Gufford was an associate with the firm of Grazi & Gianino. Mr. Gufford graduated from Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg in 1990 where he actively participated in trial team competition as well as the Stetson Negotiation Team. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1991. He is also a graduate of the University of Florida, having earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science. Following his graduation, Mr. Gufford was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army and graduated from the US Army Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Ga. While at the University of Florida Mr. Gufford was a member of Kappa Alpha Order and was also the President Pro Tem of the Student Senate. Mr. Gufford's practice is primarily devoted to family law although he also has extensive civil litigation and appellate experience. He has also served as the 2008 Chairman of the Martin County Bar Association Family Law Committee and has given professional lectures in the area in the area of family law.

The best of the best!

Mr. Gufford and his team are amazing! My divorce was the most vicious divorce known to man. It was a high conflict case, with multiple domestic violence injunctions, and constant arguments every step of the way. My ex-husbands lawyer did nothing. They didn't properly submit financials. They didn't prepare the final judgement for our review. They literally fumbled through the entire process. Joe and his team picked up the slack, and helped get us to the mediation table, and were even the ones to set the final hearing date. (Which was the Petitioners responsibility) I walked out of mediation, on the first try feeling like I didn't lose everything I've worked my life to build. I may have a broken heart, but at least I have a healthy foundation to start my life over. Without Joe's help, encouragement, knowledge of the law, and most of all his uplifting kindness and support to pull me through it, I wouldn't be where I am today. Thank you so much!!

Beyond grateful

I had such a good first impression of Joe during my initial consultation and he followed through to the end of my divorce. He and his team were readily available, provided me with emotional support and were very experienced. In my case, I relocated and needed to have my child with me with a long distance parenting plan. He fully understood my situation and really shined during my mediation. There was a lot of emotion that I experienced in my divorce, and Joe and his paralegal Cheryl were incredible at helping me feel confident and ease any fears I had during the process. What I like most about Joe is his realistic approach with my situation, and his integrity. I highly recommend Joe for anyone going through a divorce.

Thanks for your kind words. The first things I learned in law school are: 1. Nobody hires you to do the easy cases; and 2. The best way to avoid a trial is to prepare for one. If the other side knows that you are prepared to go to trial, then they are much more likely to settle and/or go away.

Highly Recommend

I highly recommend Mr. Gufford if you need any help when it comes to Family Law. I retained Mr. Gufford once in 2018 and then again last year - both times when my ex tried taking my child(ten) away from me. I wouldn’t want anyone else to represent me if this was to arise again. Between Mr. Gufford and Cheryl (who is awesome & compassionate) I felt I was heard, represented and taken care of. They are are very knowledgeable. I highly recommend and also very thankful.

Great information and help

I contacted Mr Gufford about a medical provider issue. He spent a good bit of time listening and getting all of the information needed. He then gave me suggestions to help us out. To date we have not proceeded with the next steps in this matter, but he was kind and knowledgeable and did not even charge for his time.

Professional, Efficient, Highly Recommended

I retained Joe for my divorce. My exwife was trying to relocate across the country with my young child. Bottom line, she is now staying in Florida the next 14 years, I have 50-50 custody of my child now, and I am finally free of the ex. Joe and his staff(Cheryl on my case) will treat you with respect, be upfront and honest with you about everything, and keep you up to date on everything going on. Even during Covid, my case from start to finish only took about 10 months to be completely finalized. Before you go with anyone else, meet with Joe and see for yourself. Joe is the way to go! In a panic

A few months ago my 21 year old son got into some legal trouble at College. In a panic, I quickly called Joe for guidance. Joe called me back right away and after explaining the situation, he lead me to a Defense Attorney. Scheduled a consultation

I scheduled a consultation with this lawyer. Although the firm did not take my case I have a lot of respect for this firm. I thought I had a lot of evidence but at the time it wasn’t enough. I didn’t understand and got rid of my previous attorney. Now I do understand the points. They didn’t just say okay I’m going to take this consultation without looking at the court dockets. This leads me to believe this is a very honest firm, which I appreciate. I wish I could have had this firm but I am very thankful for the attorney that did take my case. Also, the receptionist was very respectful on the phone.

Excellent Service and Knowledge of the Law

Joe helped me navigate a difficult jurisdiction action against me from the state of Texas. His knowledge of long arm jurisdiction specifically made the case that I needed to escape being forced to go to Texas to defend the complaint.

When facing a situation in which you are being hauled into a foreign jurisdiction in any matter, one must be very cognizant as to whether that foreign state has personal and subject matter jurisdiction over you. The concept is frequently referred to as "long arm jurisdiction" and is catalogued in numerous US Supreme Court decisions. If the matter involves a child, then we must also consider the UCCJEA and the concept of long arm jurisdiction.

A great outcome when everyone else said that the chips were stacked against us- long term marriage, jointly titled assets and an opposing party that claimed she couldn't work and couldn't speak English. No alimony to her in a 30 year marriage. Imputed income to the other party who could't allegedly work. Most of the assets awarded to client as an unequal distribution/alimony award to the Husband. 2 days of trial, multiple witnesses and expert opinions. properties to attend to.
